Common Questions and Answers about Paxil side effects medication

paxil

10361664 tn?1409609407 re adjusting to a new medication can make it difficult to determine what symptom is what...w/d from the old medication, or start-up side effects from the new one, you know? I would recommend talking to your doctor about JUST slowly tapering off the Paxil first, THEN starting the Zoloft. That would be a better approach. Is your doctor a psychiatrist? If not, I would ask your pcp to refer you to one. P-docs are really the best docs to be managing these medications. Hang in there....
Avatar f tn Just wondering if anyone has input on which medication might work better with less side effects... between Paxil and Celexa. I've taken Paxil in the past, but I think my doctor said Celexa is newer and has less side effects. I'm not sure that I want to start taking anything, but part of me thinks I need it to help with my health anxiety and the obsessive thinking that goes with it... Thanks in advance for any suggestions/advice!
Avatar n tn My experience is, the more a medication works, the more side effects you get. Paxil is loaded with them, but then so are all of these crazy pharmaceuticals. Since everyone is different, though, no one can predict which side effects you'll get, and you might not even notice some of them until much later, such as changes in personality. And they change over time. And they're not side effects, that's psych speak, they're just effects.
Avatar n tn Can anyone tell me what the long term effects of depression medication are? And also, I want to know the effects of mixing Paxil, Lithium and Adderall together. I was on those drugs in my teens and it seems like now my memory is really bad. Does anyone know if there are any long term effects on your memory from any of these drugs or mixing these drugs? Any help would be appreciated.
Avatar f tn If you add wellbutrin it will likely limit your weight gain and is a pure antidepressant, but it can be stimulating and so it's theoretically possible it will increase your anxiety. Paxil is a difficult drug to stop taking, and once you've taken it because it seems to be stronger in its affinity for serotonin and choline receptors it's sometime difficult for other drugs to work.
Avatar m tn I also take Paxil for a sleep disorder (depression-related insomnia) and have for 11+ years. It works wonderously, but I gained 30+ lbs when I started the medication and have tried for years to lose it, unsuccessfully. I will lose some weight - and believe me, it takes an enormous amount of exercise and effort - but inevitably gain it back because Paxil makes my appetite so strong.
Avatar n tn t like how it is making me feel. Will I have side effects if I just stop taking it? I have been taking Klonopin as needed.
983155 tn?1248700406 re in Paxil withdrawal and, because you started another drug at the same time that has a completely different mechanism of action, you have the side effects of starting another drug that may not even be an appropriate substitute for Paxil. What you should do is, if you just started the wellbutrin, stop it, go back on the Paxil, and taper off slowly, as slowly as it takes because you aren't anyone else. What you have are classic Paxil withdrawal symptoms.
Avatar f tn people with anxiety have a tendency of psyching themselves up about things, especially medication and potential side effects. You might be suffering from the placebo effect. I know that just a day after taking celexa for the first time, I started feeling really strange. But the fact is, the medication couldn't possibly have infiltrated my system enough in only 24 hours to induce symptoms or side effects. It was my mind playing tricks on me.
Avatar n tn s what will continue to happen. Has anyone had these side effects that are ongoing when you take Prestiq? Also, how do you recommend weaning off the medication. In the past, I had taken Effexor and had to wean off by breaking open the capsule and decreasing the grains. Thanks for any suggestions.
Avatar n tn Take it real solw and ask your doctor about taking Remeron to help take the edge of off the Paxil side effects. Did a great job for me! Lets you get to sleep at night and really helps with the anixety. However, it did keep me in a fog for a few days until my body adjusted.
Avatar n tn I have been on Paxil for over 10 years and have been thinking about getting off of it. What are the side effects of being on Paxil for such a long time? After reading some of the side effects of trying to get off Paxil, I am wondering if I should continue to take it for the rest of my life. Has anyone out there been on Paxil for as long as I have?
1330166 tn?1379548346 It worked very well for me, I only switched when it quit being effective for me after a few years. If we read all the side effects of every medication we need, nobody would take them. If one person in a million suffers one side effect, the drug manufacturer has to list it.
1023433 tn?1252068944 I was prescribed paxil 10mg for my anxiety which I've struggled with for years. I've only taken it for two days and I do not like the side effects I guess you could call them. I'm sweating really bad shaky, no appetite and trouble sleeping. I took paxil 20 mg for 3 yrs 7 yrs ago and had no problem with it.
Avatar m tn Hi! I have been taking Paxil for 20 years. I have recently been struggling w/ more intense anxiety and depression and irritability. I am switching from Paxil to Cymbalta, and am down from 30 mg of Paxil to 5 mg, and then up to 60 mg of Cymbalta. I feel like I am having a racing heart/palpitations. I am not sure if it's anxiety, Paxil withdrawal, side effects from Cymbalta, or there is something wrong with my heart.
Avatar m tn I have been searching for an answer for my physical pains for the past two yrs. I've done all the tests and it's come back normal. My pains physically and emotionally sound very much like the ones I've read on this site. I have come to except that I have an anxiety disorder. I'm considering going on meds. My GP has given me clonazepam to take when needed. I know this is only a temporary medication.
Avatar f tn Hello, my doctor put me on Remeron(generic) about a month and 1/2 ago to help with the withdrawl symptoma of the Paxil that I was getting off of. The Remeron (15mg) did a great job at that.... kept my anxiety down and let me sleep but hasn't really helped with my obssesive racing thoughts/worry . I've now been on Prozac (worked wonders for me 15yrs ago) for about 12 days and still on the Remeron. Two nights ago I began to tapper off of the Remeron. I went down to 7.
Avatar f tn Proper protocols call for weaning off a drug as slowly as you need before you start a new medication.
Avatar m tn s working. I was Paxil for several years, and the side effects changed over time, and I was on imipramine for several years and the side effects changed over time and then it stopped working and I'm on Lexapro and the side effects have changed over time. Just the nature of the beast.
Avatar n tn My own advice would be to wean off Paxil before trying another antidepressant so you can tell which effects are withdrawal from Paxil and which are side effects of the new med. It's hard to do when you're essentially on two meds at once; even though Paxil leaves the body quickly, the brain takes a while to adapt to the cessation of these meds. But this is just my opinion.
Avatar f tn I do not know if michael has taken Paxil, but i did take it for over 8 years and let me tell you paxil put me through hell and one of the side effects was heart palpittions. There are many side effects from paxil that many people are not aware of. SO do your research. There are so many great web sites out there, one is paxilprogress.
Avatar f tn So glad to hear that, Patsy. Yes, do discuss the Paxil w/ your Doctor. Also, plz discuss w/ your Doc how to get off the Paxil slowly. It could take a while to get off the Paxil. Aks your Doc what side-effects you might experience on Paxil, so that you're prepared to handle that. Example: when they switched me from Zoloft to Celexa my Doc did it slowly.
2044839 tn?1331255841 I was recently tried on Zoloft and I thought the side effects I was having were withdrawls from my Effexor and new side effects from the Zoloft ... but it turned out I am allergic to the Zoloft and was having a reaction to it!
Avatar f tn However, I have taken other SSRIs and SNRIs, and while the withdrawal effects can be really unsettling and uncomfortable, they do decrease in severity and eventually go away with time. I wonder whether the tremors are a side effect from starting Paxil, or a withdrawal symptom from weaning off the Cymbalta, or both?
Avatar f tn What you are describing sound very much like anxiety symptoms, rather than a side effect of the Paxil. Now...in saying that...SSRIs DO have a tendency to increase anxious symptoms initially before they help them. Usually after the first week, any side effects that are causing an exacerbation of the anxiety start to subside. Still, I think a chit chat with your doc is in order. Whether you stay on the Paxil or change to another SSRI...
Avatar f tn I have been on Lexapro for a while, but due to some side effects I am switching. I am exhausted on Lexapro. I cannot get through the day without needing a nap. I can barley keep my eyes open through the day. This is unlike me. I also am having slight nausea. It's also not helping me as much as I'd like for anxiety, although it has been great for my depression. My doc wanted to switch me to Prozac.
1722607 tn?1335747858 I am not sure if anyone is taking Paxil. One advantage the antidepressants have is that depression can be a side effect of the Hep C treatment (Interferon). Many people are placed on antidepressants before they even start treatment. Either of these drugs (Paxil or Zoloft) could be used for anxiety and either could be used for depression. I know there are more but without researching I cannot remember the names.
