Common Questions and Answers about Pacemaker surgery recovery doctor

pacemaker

Avatar m tn The pain associated with an implanted pacemaker may be musculoskeletal or nerve related. Most likely related to the minor surgery required for insertion of the pacemaker. This type of pain related to the incision should heal within weeks. If you have persistent chest pain at the site of the pacemaker, it might be reasonable to see your doctor so that possible causes can be evaluated.
Avatar f tn All surgeries have some risk, but I think catheter surgery (done with catheters through an artery) are among the lest dangerous. You didn't say why you are considering surgery. If the "problem" is minor you may want to consider living with it rather than take any risk. Talk it over with your doctor. The worst I've read that I think can be a bad outcome of sinus node surgery is the sinus node shuts down and one then has to have a pacemaker implanted.
Avatar n tn After recovery, you go back to your room and start the recovery process. Was it the easiest surgery? probably not, but certainly a surgery that saved my life at 42 - due to a dangerous heart rhythm. Hope that helps.
Avatar f tn I have an abdomen implanted pacemaker, it’s getting replaced in the same spot 6 days before my band concert. I play French horn if that’s anything helpful. Is that a problem?
Avatar f tn To all who wished me good thoughts over my pacemaker "generator" replacement. It does sound more impressive than "battery" !! I'm told I have the very latest in technology and can now be "found" by the new system that "reads" your pacemaker without you having to "phone home" and do the telephone game; alas I had to burst the pacemaker rep's bubble and remind her that I am only near a "landline" in the winter.....
Avatar f tn my father is admitted in a hospital. he had bypas surgery on 24th of september. at present his heartbeat or heart rate is 84. is he need any pacemaker?
Avatar f tn Well maybe I had some pacemaker operating when I was in surgery, Of course don't know anything about what went on in there, thank god, the anesthesiologist kept me under the whole time. My surgeon/hospital was all for back on your feet and I was sitting up in a high back chair within a few hours after surgery. I had several catheters hanging out of me and was hooked up to heart monitoring equipment.
Avatar f tn how dangerous is the replacement surgery? what is the recovery like? restrictions? should I plan to be off work longer than the day of the replacement to stay home with him?

Avatar n tn My mom is 52. She's had her pacemaker for 4 1/2 years now. Fractures, while rare, are fixable. the original plan was that hers was fractured. So the procedure would be to snip both ends, cap them and sew them down, and then implant the new lead in another spot close by. In that procedure you do not have to have open heart surgery. It's much like the original surgery where you get the pacemaker. They go in through the original scar site and fix everything and finish up.
Avatar n tn I'm 27 now, and I had my pacemaker implanted in 2002. Its not a bad surgery, I was awake for mine. They gave me some medication to help me relax, and a local anesthesia. I could feel some pressure and stuff while they were actually doing the implant, but it wasn't painful. I stayed overnight one night in the hospital, and then was released the next evening. Recovery was fine...my incision was a little sore and tender, but nothing I couldn't handle.
1331422 tn?1326566597 I got a pacemaker/defibrillator implanted the end of June. The surgery is only a couple of hours and they kept me overnight. I was a little sore but nothing like other surgeries I've had. I recovered extremely quickly. They say not to raise your arm for the first week, no lifting, pushing or pulling for 6 weeks, no jogging or cardio workout for 4-5 weeks. Pretty much the same restrictions as with any surgery except you have to be really careful not to pull the leads out of your heart.

Avatar f tn Good evening everybody. I'm really happy to be on this site. I went to see my pain doctor today and get the results of the MRI I had done in my elbow. The results read as follows: "Near complete tear of common extensor tendon origin with few fibers remaining.intact and edema in the adjacent muscles and soft tissue" My concerns are many. I've had surgery on both of my knees and my left shoulder oh, and also have a pacemaker.
Avatar f tn I just had a dual lead pacemaker put in 3 days ago to control accelerated junctional rhythm. The same night of surgery I had ajr of 135 it had overridden my pacemaker. I continue to have junctional rhythms and very rarely is my heart rate,at 85 which is what pacemaker is set at. I can't walk from one room to another without heart racing and out of breath. I feel horrible.. Will this get better as maybe my heart is irritated? I feel worse than. Before pacemaker.

Avatar f tn My grandmother had her pacemaker implanted 1 week ago. Is it normal for the area to be bruised, a purple color? She is also experiencing a burning sensation around the area. She is 84 years old and before she had the surgery she was able to walk fine and now she walks a little and she feels very tired and she says she feels like her heart is beating really fast and it might even come out.
Avatar f tn My husband is 31 years old & just went through open heart surgery to repair his mitral valve. He had severe regurgitation. Since before he went in for the surgery he has been taking Cardizem 120 & even after surgery they kept him on the medication with 1 baby aspirin a day. They said they would monitor him for the next few months and decide if he can come off or not. Since then he had his echo cardiogram & they reported his heart muscle function has decreased.
Avatar n tn My mother-in-law, who will be 95 is April, was recently hospitalized has several episodes of arrhythmia at the hospital. the doctor recommends a pacemaker. What are the pros and cons of someone her age to have a pacemaker implanted?
Avatar n tn Replacing the 2 wire pacemaker with the 3 wire pacemaker is a surgery. My mom had this done and it was more than she expected, so it would be wise to wait as your doctor recommended the 5 months.

I was sent home with a heart rate of 40 they thought it was just the pain meds. With in four hours I was unconscious on the bathroom floor with a heart rate of 15 quickly fading. I was rushed to the er and put in cardiac short stay for the night. They ran test after test to make sure anistisa had nothing to do with it.
