At $1,000 per pill, Sovaldi costs 1,100% more than Stribild, the most-expensive AIDS combo drug on the market. In addition, Gilead is charging a higher price for this drug even though the cost to produce it is small. According to industry reports, Gilead produces Sovaldi for approximately $1.00 per gram (with only 10 to 30 grams needed to successfully treat patients with Hepatitis C).
Avatar f tn Everything is relative-- but yes, that is a large dose. Consider that Percocet tablets-- medications used to treat surgical pain in dose ranges of 1-2 every 4 hours-- contain 5-10 mg of oxycodone. You are taking the equivalent of 70 of the 5 mg tabs every day, when the dose after major surgery would be on the order of 5-10 tablets per day. The largest dose I've seen in a patient addicted to oxycodone is about 700 mg per day.
Avatar n tn I had to discontinue due to side effects, nausea. What did work for long lasting was oxycontin, same family as percocet but ofcourse DEA took care of that for us that truly are hurting. My insurance will not cover and the cost and redtape is horrible. I believe they gave me 90 days rx and then, no more. When I went to walgreens to refill the percocet after handing in the morphine to my doc, they were absolute jerks, took six hours to get them filled.
Avatar f tn Hi I have been relying on 20mg of controlled release oxycontin to wake-up in the morning for months now. I have been starting with 20 then as that wears of I take another 20. The most I have taken in a day is 80mg. Forgot to mention that I have been chewing them before swallowing. Do you think this will be hard to get off? and what am I going to feel?
Avatar m tn Hello all. I have been using oxycontin and oxycodone for two years plus for chronic back pain due to a crushed s1 nerve. Right now I am taking two 60mg oxycontin pills and 4-15mg oxycodone pills per day. I am trying to figure out what the best way is to try tapering myself off a bit since I had my surgery a few months ago. Any advice on how much I should taper and how long I should stay at the taper doses.
Avatar n tn Please let me know the answers to all above questions. Can I just try, say one 80mg pill per day, and do that for a week, then switch to 1/2 of a 80mg pill, etc etc? Or should I see a doc and get on the syboxin? I am praying every day that I can get off of this. I need help bad. Please give me any help that you can. I am praying to GOD that I can get off of this fast. Thank you!
2107861 tn?1346470646 I was taking 20mg of oxycodone 4x per day and it was not controlling my pain so the doctor added 20mg of oxycontin 2x per day and I have got a lit of relief!!! But my concern is since I have been taking it my stomack cramps real bad I stay nauseous and can't hardly eat does anyone no if this is a side effect? Don't want to call the doctor because my pain is manageable!!!!
Avatar n tn So before ruling it out, be sure to get the cost information from your insurance. I am not taking Oxycontin but I did price it as it was a medication that was considered awhile back. There are other long-acting opiods such as MS Contin, Kadian, Avinza (morphine extended release) that are also good medications for the treatment of chronic pain.
Avatar m tn Since the hydrocodone was not working anymore, my dr. Put me on oxycontin that quickly went crom 20mg 2x per day to 40mg 2x per day. I also had a discography with the pain dr. Perscribing me 7.5/500 oxycodone for breakthru pain. Once I quit tsking the oxycodone pills, I started getting gastro problems, body aches, until I would take the pill. I soon felt that my body was really addictive so i have gone cold turkey. The last pill I took was a 40mg about 30 hrs ago.
Avatar f tn The problem with that scenario is that most patients need 3 doses per day of the long acting painkillers, not 2 tablets per day. This is even more true for patients that have been on the same medications for a long time, as they develop tolerance to that particular medication. My doctor and i combat tolerance by simply switching medications as i become tolerant. An example of this would be switching from oxycontin to methadone for a few months, or from methadone to mscontin, etc.
Avatar m tn Opana is rather expensive for me even with insurance but it works so well that it is worth the $11 per pill that it costs. I have heard that the generic Fentanyl patches can be rather expensive too. I have confirmed with my doctor that brand oxymorphone indeed works better than generic oxymorphone for the reasons just mentioned. There is also methadone but it has a tendency to build up in your system so dosing is very tricky.
Avatar m tn Hi again support people. Just a question for you., I am down to three oxy per day now and have been tapering quckly. Other than the runs and a bit of an upset stomach. I actually feel more alive than I have in months. Now as some of you know, I went from 20 a day to 3 over a two week period. I keep waiting for the bang. What would if be like if I went to 2, then 1 then zero in jsut 3 or 4 days. Even if I stuck at one for a long time. Would that make any difference to the discomfort.
Avatar f tn Hi emmaless, Am I reading your post correctly that you were taking 80 mg of Oxycontin 3x per day and 40 mg of Oxycontin 3x per day? If yes, keep reading...LOL. I thought you wrote that you were taking 80 mg and 40mg total of Oxycontin per day. That is why my post to your other thread stated that you were on more medicine through Fentanyl than through Oxycontin. That is not the case if you taking the 80 mg and the 40 mg 3x per day. That is 120 mg x 3 or 360 mg of Oxycontin per day vs.
Avatar f tn Not trying to cause dissent as I am here to help in anyway I can but there is no longer a generic oxycontin formula on the market. When Purdue Pharma reformulated the pill and renamed it Oxycontin OP, that extended the patent on Oxycontin. Purdue Pharma won the lawsuit and all the generic manufacturers that were producing Oxycontin had to exit the market. A similar scenario happened with Opana ER. Endo Pharmaceuticals reformulated Opana ER so that it couldn't be crushed and snorted.
Avatar m tn I saw this yesterday, printed it out and have read it several times. And I'll probably have to read it several more before I can completely wrap my head around it. The good news, as I see it, is the clarity it brings to the subject of actual cost of new medications to payers. "The $1000 dollar pill" or the "$1125 pill" has gotten so much play in the media. (Doctors aren't immune to this nor are many who work in the insurance industry.
Avatar n tn the only thing im wondering is if the suboxone will give me bad withdrawls if i only take it for 4 to 5 days max. will all the oxycontin be out of my system so that when i stop the 1mg of suboxone i have been taking for the past 4 to 5 days so that i wont go into withdrawls all over again.
Avatar m tn 25 mg of oxycodone per hour through the oxycontin. So instead of getting the full 15 mg within an hour of taking the immediate release oxycodone, you are getting about 1.25 mg of oxycodone within an hour. Now looking out over the day, you say you typicially need to take another 15 mg oxycodone 5-6 hours later. After 5-6 hours the oxycontin released is only 6.25-7.5 mg of oxycodone...this is only 1/2 of the 15 mg of immediate release oxycodone that you were taking!
Avatar m tn ok so i quit doing oxycontin cold turkey (160mg) a day. I'm now on day 6 (finally getting life back in order) and i have a couple questions about aftercare. I don't ever want to go back to the way i was before so im trying to figure out: 1) Does it cost money in canada to meet with a counsellor? (don't really want to go to the meetings) Kind of looking for a step by step program type thing to keep me clean? 2)Can you keep it anonymous and not release your name?
Avatar f tn i suffer from lower back 2 herniated discs and 3 discs that are collapsing,i am curently on 200 mgs of ms-contyn 2 times per day,and 150 10/325 percs per month,i find after 4 years of being on them they have no effect on me,i have been know to abbuse them,i know when i was on a high intake of 200 mgs pure morphine per day and 120 mgs oxycodone per day my dose was cut in half i had diareha and vomit from the withdrawals, everyone is different,if you slowly cut back on your meds and hold off on tak
Avatar f tn Hi Everyone, I was just wondering if Norco, 10-325 is easier to withdraw from than Oxycontin 80mg. My friend was taking 2 oxycontin 80mg a day and told her doctor ( they were not prescribed) and she told the doctor that the only thing stopping her from quitting oxycontin was the horrible withdrawals. He put her on Norco and told her to wean down with those, and that going cold turkey off Norcos ( once she's weaned down to 5 a day) is easier than w/d from oxycontin.
Avatar f tn Sorry I don't have Kaiser health insurance, maybe someone else here does, but those prices sound about right. Those are your "co-pay costs", the "actual cost" is thousands of dollars per month as you have heard. I had Blue Cross of California during treatment and my co-pay cost were similar to the prices you quoted.
Avatar m tn Canada is on the verge of banning oxycontin and it is expected that it will be happening in every province.
Avatar f tn After failed neck fusion, I was prescribed slow release Oxycontin. 6 yrs later after lots of hassles, I finally found out that Oxycontin is absorbed in the large intestine. In desperation for pain relief ( with my Dr's approval) I started chewing them. I currently take 6 x 20mg tabs per day. 1 every 4 hrs. They just changed the formula & now they change to s gluggy gel when they get wet. This hsd been causing me some problems, so my GP prescribed me Targin.
