Omeprazole otc dose

Common Questions and Answers about Omeprazole otc dose

prilosec

Avatar m tn My doctor asked me be patient and use the drug for 12 to 24 weeks to become symptom-free. My question is that does taking omeprazole otc instead of prescription prilose make any difference in efficacy of the medication. Also, my doctor told me that i can stop taking the medicine once i become symptom-free and take as and when necessary as my symptoms usually come back. i am 32 year old now.
1364792 tn?1278051187 It is helpful, but not the big guns for acid reflux that could be harmful. Omeprazole is available OTC. Some H2 blockers are also used as supplement antihistamines for people who have a hard time controlling allergies. OH, not acid reflux presents with the typical heart burn symptoms. Some people reflux higher and it does burn the esophagus in that way. Feel better.
709686 tn?1277432159 Esomeprazole (Nexium) is slightly different than omeprazole (Prilosec). But your body could react the same way. You could try a small amount and see. There are some combo otc drugs by Rolaids and others that have an antacid and famotidine (acid reducer). Those probably don't work as well.
Avatar n tn Is it possible to have a reverse reaction to Nexium / omeprazole? It never really made the symptoms of my recently diagnosed hiatal hernia caused reflux (lump in throat, mostly) go away. It seemed to help for 2 weeks, but after 1 month it seemed to aggravate GERD symptoms. I am reading a lot on the subject, experimenting with diet and relaxation and the occasional spoonful of Maalox. I relate to the person who said they felt fine until after the endoscopy.
Avatar n tn With additional advice I decided to stay on the Proton Pump Inhibitor (Omeprazole). It seems that extended use is supposedly not harmful to the body. I take a 20mg tablet daily and I can function fully and eat and drink absolutely anything as long as I have had the capsule. I soon know about it if I forget to take it! That seldom happens I assure you. My question is: I have at least one bowel movement daily - usually after I get up in the morning.
Avatar n tn Take some OTC antacid like Mylanta. You can also take zantac(ranitidine)or prilosec (omeprazole). These will help. Also keep your fluid electrolyte balance optimum by drinking lots of fluids. If the symptoms worsen then it may be due to H.Pylori infection. You need antibiotics in that case after prescription from a physician. I hope it helps. Take care and regards.
690060 tn?1247841741 Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has new data showing that omeprazole (Prilosec/Prilosec OTC)—a medicine used to reduce stomach acid—reduces the anti-blood clotting effect of clopidogrel (Plavix) by almost half when these two medicines are taken by the same patient." "...Patients using clopidogrel should consult with their healthcare provider if they are currently taking or considering taking omeprazole, including Prilosec OTC" but then, there's also this: http://www.
Avatar n tn You can try omeprazole it is a over the counter med you can buy at walmart but there is also a med called zegrid otc which is way better it is 2 meds combined into one and the first one allows the acid reducing med to work by blocking the stomach acid from breaking it down before its completely absorbed. Its a great med it cost aprox $15 for a box.
Avatar m tn my dr prescribed Protonix to me and I wondering how often does someone have dizziness from it and how long does it usually last? I haven't taken it yet due to that. Also I tried omeprazole otc and it gave me headaches. Does that mean I'm more likely to have side effects from Protonix?
Avatar f tn Totally sounds like GERD to me, are you taking a ppi? omeprazole (prilosec) or the like? If its that the nausea and loud stomach growing will go away if you take those. As far as the leg cramps at night I seem to get that alot if I'm not getting enough vit D which luckily is now in my calcium. Before I started taking omeprazole I swear I was nauseas on a daily basis. Not to the point of throwing up but just thinking hey I'm nauseas.
Avatar m tn I had been having acid reflux for a few weeks, and last week I woke up after rolling over on my stomach during the night with acid burning my esophagus. A doctor perscribed me Nexium, but since my insurance wouldn't cover it, I started taking over the counter Omeprazole instead. The very next day I woke up with stomach pain and cramps at around the same time I had the acid reflux the previous night.
Avatar n tn I am thinking it could be acid reflux/GERD which can be very painful, your doctor may be able to prescribe or OTc meds help something like Prevacid,
Avatar f tn Both omeprazole and zantac can cause abnormal liver function tests.
Avatar f tn If that does not work, try Pepcid, Gaviscon, Prilosec OTC, Omeprazole, Pepto, Zegerid OTC, Equate Acid Relief or Alka-Seltzer. If you do not want to go to the store, try a quick remedy-- baking soda or cold milk. And also, you can use PregEase. It treats morning sickness and heartburn. It is clinically proven a safe choice with natural ingredients, so you do not have to worry about anything harming the little one.
Avatar f tn The reason I start out in the Gastro area is because I’ve been on omeprazole for about seven years. Every time I try and cut back, using Tumms as well as OTC anti acid It’s not working. I’m having horrendous heartburn. And then I just give up and take my omeprazole so at least I can get comfortable. I’ve been trying this off and on for six months I don’t feel like I’m getting anywhere. I wouldn’t of even known about this had I not found out I was so deficient in vitamins.
Avatar f tn Tylenol is not mentioned on the insert, cold meds (other than cough suppressant, which is specifically contraindicated on the patient insert), Ibuprofen (says, "additional monitoring may be needed"??) etc. I asked the pharmacist who gave me a ho-hum non-committal answer like "I can't think of anything that interacts OTC... " and was less than satisfied.
Avatar n tn I am unconcerned about a modest increase in effective dose, but I imagine high-dose statin users with CKD, etc. should take the interaction seriously. Again, thanks!
Avatar f tn This is day 4, and I am on 10 mg.of omeprazole. The first two days were terrible, the third fine now the fourth is terrible.
