Common Questions and Answers about Omega 3 dosage bipolar disorder

omega-3

Avatar f tn s still experimental and such in this nature but I never read up on it for bipolar disorder but you know, schizophrenia and bipolar disorder are clinically linked somehow anyway.
1053987 tn?1279304510 I take Omega-3 supplements and Vitamin D. For Omega-3, you need to make sure that what you're taking has a high concentration of EPA fats, as these are the ones that will actually help with mood stabilization. Look for capsules that come from fish oil, not flax seed, because flax contains a different type of Omega-3 (ALA). I use a brand called OmegaBrite because my doctor recommended it, actually. Apparently it's one of the best out there to help treat bipolar disorder and depression.
403156 tn?1290150018 I know it does not control bipolar because I suffered horrible symptoms before my diagnosis when I was taking Omega 3 already. Just got my diagnosis and added in the bipolar meds!
Avatar n tn You can not control bipolar disorder on just Omega-3. I have been taking it for years. It is a good suppliment, however, telling people to use it alone is dangerous so I would kindly ask you not to go around telling people to go off their meds and use a suppliment. Especially those of us with severe bipolar. Some people are new to their disorder and unsure. They use this forum to seek answers and if given the wrong information it could lead to a very dangerous situation.
Avatar m tn my husband has been on depakote for bipolar disorder for about 3 years now, and he's not happy with it; he's gained some weight and he generally feels unmotivated most of the time, so i'm trying to get an idea of what else is out there for alternative medications.
Avatar f tn I recognize that Bipolar I is more severe, however the usual dose for anyone with Bipolar disorder is between 25mg-200mg. Listen, doctors will truly mess up your life without intending to. After 10 years of being heavily dosed by multiple medications (too many to recount) for multiple reasons, I recently began the extremely lengthy process of getting off each medication, one by one.
454366 tn?1211245301 I have recently taken myself off of all the meds I was taking for my disorder. I researched the Omega-3 fatty acids and am taking a suppliment now. Litium did give me a hyperactive thyroid condition. The med I was given for that has a side effect of osteoporosis in the lumbar in long term use (Synthroid). I ended up with litium toxicity a few years back because diuretics will cause that. As you know caffine is a diuretic (soft drinks) - which most kiddo's I know tend to drink.
Avatar n tn Oh I'm sorry you failed to tell us you have Bipolar disorder Here is a link you should look at and tell me what you think ! Jimmy http://www.nimh.nih.gov/health/publications/bipolar-disorder/complete-index.

202665 tn?1248806733 ve just been incorrect to start with and as the others said, bipolar disorder can have psychotic features and you could develop schizophrenia symptoms down the road alongside the bipolar disorder, but that would be schizoaffective disorder. Also, in the new DSM-V they have currently decided to totally deleting all the subtypes of schizophrenia and just going to diagnose solely schizophrenia.
601528 tn?1224081498 9-10 grams a day, yes,9-10 grams - and my psychiatrist Dr. A is ok with my megadosing_with omega-3's. If you are skeptical, please look at mypost in the "Alternative" section @ www.bipolarworld.org about Omega-3's. Read Dr. Stoll's excellent book_"The Omega Connection". Nordic Naturals is also based near where I live and their products have an outstanding reputation and are worth the cost.
1655526 tn?1330655629 I know that omega 3 is really supposed to be good for the heart, but I get palps after I take them for 3 days, especially krill oil. I've read in this forum that others have also had adverse reactions to taking this supplement. So I wanted to put this poll out to see how omega 3 affects you. The first time I suspected krill oil, which is supposed to be the best omega 3, I used the process of elimination. Still not believing it I did it a second and third time.
574118 tn?1305135284 //www.psychiatrictimes.com/bipolar-disorder/content/article/10168/46826. It put the ends at MDD and Bipolar I... schizophrenia was not mentioned. Schizophrenia is not a mood disorder and will not be included in bipolar spectrum disorder, should that ever come to pass. The spectrum refers to sub-threshold bipolar within the MDD-BP I range. I googled wave theory bipolar and the ONLY thing in psychiatry I found was your post. All other entries were about engineering.
Avatar f tn I can't say, I have read very little about alternative medicines as treatments - I have read a lot about Omega 3 which may help as a supplement but never seen it used as a treatment in full to replace other MS drugs. What does your pdoc say about this? Are you getting therapy? if it was me I would worry that these are halo effect from starting a new drug - to see if any drug is effective you need much more than 2 weeks - depending on diagnosis 2 weeks might be nothing in terms of cycles.
3038261 tn?1340919409 he was a general practicioner whose only solution for my bipolar disorder has been antidepressants. Not only has my mania increased in severity, so have my following crashes into depression. Despite this, he has refused to try mood stabilizers on me; his "reasoning" is that if he can treat the depression, the mania will go away. With research, I've learned the opposite is usually the case.

1515545 tn?1291395764 g about 2 weeks ago, I have been feeling great up to today, and now my very irriatated and annoyed moods are back, I did lapse on the lithium for 2 days waiting for a refill, but today I just wanted to go off on my very annoying neighbor, she is constanlty pounding and banging, slamming doors all hours of the day and night, and today I am done with it, I have had all I can take, landlord has been called 5 seperate times just from me, not to mention the calls my fiance has done too, I sick of my
Avatar n tn So, I just got out of a psych hospital for the 3rd time in 3 months. I was diagnosed with PTSD and mood disorder. I am on a host of drugs that leave me zombie-like. I am taking Lamictal, Seroquel, Klonopin, Trazadone and Lithium. My Lithium dosage is 1050 mg a day. I am so tired and the weight gain and hair falling out are just two of the most troubling symptoms. My dr. doesn't even want me on an anti-depressant which I think will help. I am missing the occasional glass of wine.
1243620 tn?1274790697 t bipolar but ask your doc about cyclothymia, as well as other forms of the disorder. Cyclothymia is a form of bipolar (I was diagnosed with this) that as I understand, has less severe manic episodes. The deppressive episodes are extremely severe for me, last much longer, and occur more frequently than the manic episodes. My manic episodes actually mimic the behavior of a type-A personality rather than the behavior of a person in a manic state.
Avatar f tn My shitzu dog is 7 years old and has kidney stones and allergies. He also has high cholesterol(Cushings' disease suspected). He weighs about 10 lbs. Is it safe for me to give him omega 3 capsules and what should be the dosage? Thank you, Mrs.
1452588 tn?1285086427 Absolutely! For four years I took Wellbutrin for depression. In 1999 all heck broke loose when I became agitated, nervous and grandiose.. I was hospitalized in a day program for four weeks, That's when my psychiatrist gave me Bipolar II Disorder diagnosis. I stayed on Wellbutrin at a lower dose, and a mood stabilizer and anti-psychotic were added to the mix. I've learned through the years that for no apparent reason, a med can stop working.
Avatar m tn Thx for your help. I'm taking vitamin c pills (1000mg) twice a day ....i'll try omega 3 with them too :)....I think I still need medication because still ance and inflammation appear but I'm sure these will help. If I take the right Decutan dosage still can react ?
667937 tn?1227758698 I was diagnosed bipolar when i was 14 i am now 35 i was on medications but stopped them in December taking other means of herbs and stuff (5-HTP fish oil omega 3) and others. I stopped the fish oil about a little over a week ago because of belching a fishy taste. Could that be why i am becoming depressed or do you think it could be something else? I have had no episodes of depression the whole time i have been on herbals. Until now after stopping the fish oil.
