1051842 tn?1253997592 I was diagnosed with stage 4 Hep C in April 2007 and since then I have had a liver transplant and I'm on my 6th month of interferon treatment. I have had little or no side effects from the interferon, but recently started injecting procrit. That first injection of procrit made me feel worse than the interferon ever has. Tomorrow I'm supposed to start Neupogen injections. I'm scared of that! What kind of side effects can I expect from that? Will I have to take these new drugs long?
695002 tn?1228147995 i tried the treatment 15 years ago and lasted 3 months as the effects of the treatment where so bad, even though i am now married and have the suport of my family is there other things that could help me when i start treatment in 3-4 weeks.
Avatar n tn Hi. I am on week 60/72, second round of treatment. I was really really sick after shot for first few months and then this resolved and became tolerable at least. I now find that I am having these same significant side effects later in tx. This didn't happen last round, but I went 48 then. Anyone else have this happen?
Avatar f tn In general terms, white blood cells are known as leukocytes. White blood cells have several components; neutrophils, lymphocytes, monocytes, esonophils and basophils. If hubby is on treatment the particular component that's getting the doc's attention is neutrophil, which can be affected by the drugs. The 'resuce' drug that is used is "Neupogen".
244899 tn?1313624639 The nuepogen side effects just floor me for a full day after taking it. My body aches and I cant get out of bed. Im just wondering if anyone else gets side effects from procrit?
Avatar m tn Next time I try treatment I'm going to suggest to my doctor to prescribe neupogen and procrit before I start to get the counts up. Mine have always dropped into the low range. I found especially the neupogen made me feel rough after I was already well into treatment and didn't do a whole lot. Why don't doctors prescribe it before treatment? Would there be a downside to that?
564735 tn?1263943526 Hello, Yesterday I was given Neulast for the first time and I am experiencing some flu like side effects...achy (sp?), low grade fever and chills. I did some research on the web ( danger Will Robinson) and the web pages I looked at said I should contact my dr's office. I am planning on doing so tomorrow morning ( I wasn't going to before I read about the side effects on the web). My question is have any of you had similar side effects and how long did they last.
Avatar f tn Lalapple had severe Neutropenia due to bone marrow suppression post tx and I believe was hospitalized for it. She was on Neupogen during much of her treatment and I believe they continued the Neupogen after treatment as well.
4113881 tn?1415850276 Part of the reason for this suboptimal efficacy is that the treatment can cause difficult side effects that cause many people to reduce their drug doses or stop treatment prematurely. But several supportive, or adjuvant, therapies can help patients stay on treatment.
Avatar f tn I got a call from my doctor 3 months into my hep c treatment that I had no white blood cells and had to get a shot of neupogen immediately! I was on neupogen for 7 months, and I had all kinds of side effects from it, especially on my left upper back and shoulder (it felt as if maggots were gnawing at my bones). I had pains everywhere which made me have panic attacks that I was having a stroke, not the case. Every time I showed up at the doctor telling him I was dying he said I was fine.
Avatar m tn I had awful bone pain when I was on Neupogen. I've always contended for me, the side effects from Neupogen were as bad if not worse than those from antiviral therapy. It stimulates the colonies of white stem cells within the bone marrow causing the level of neutrophils in the blood to rise. It is common to have aching bones and joints for 2-3 days duration starting 1-2 days after the start of the injections.
Avatar m tn The neupogen does not. I had no visable side effects from the neupogen although after I completed treatment and was still doing the Neup for a few weeks to bring up the whites, I noticed the side effects (bone aches). Masked by the INF and RIBA and the Procrit, who knew what was causing what? One thing I was told about Neupogen by my hemotologist was to wait 24 hours after the INF or do it at least 24 hours before. NOT AT THE SAME TIME because the INF and NEUP counter act one another.
568898 tn?1228524093 My doctor said the side effects will go away the longer i am on the meds. My treatment is for 11 months. Anyone else have this problem too?
Avatar m tn It is a little more rare that people on treatment need shots of neupogen. Neupogen probably has some greater side effects in terms of flu type symptoms or bone pain, but, the odds of needing neupogen are far less than the odds of needing procrit. When I was treating I lived on procrit - two shots a week (partially though because I had anemia going into treatment). I also had a history of low wbc counts going in and I only got maybe three shots of neupogen the entire treatment.
Avatar n tn I have managed to work full time from home throughout this treatment, as the side effects can be dealt with. Good luck.
Avatar f tn I believe that your pain complaints are valid and this may be a side effect of neupogen shots (this bone pain can be part of the usual 'flu like' side effects associated with the drug). If you are experiencing pain from this treatment, then I believe it is inhuman to withhold pain medications for you, though I agree there can also be side effects from the chronic intake of pain medications (such as dependence or kidney problems).
789911 tn?1368636783 Feels like the flu, I would attribute it to the shot, but I havnt had any clear side effects from that since shot 1. The only thing that has seemed to help at all for this is IB profin. At least I can get out of bed for a while. I hope to be better by Tuesday, sure dont want to start anitbiotics if I dont need toooo.
Avatar n tn No, it's not fair. I'm sorry your dad was unlucky. The standard treatment for HepC these days is two drugs: ribavirin and interferon. Interferon is a once-a-week injection. Ribavirin is little pills taken twice daily. Interferon can give flu-like symptoms as side-effects, though for most of us those aren't too bad after the first few weeks. Ribavirin has a variety of side-effects, including anemia (low red-blood-cell count).
