Gcsf neupogen treatment

Common Questions and Answers about Gcsf neupogen treatment

neupogen

Avatar m tn You can discuss ‘Neupogen (filgrastim) with the doc; this is a GCSF drug that stimulates bone marrow production of white cells. It is generally initiated when absolute neutrofils reach .500 or that vicinity; some docs allow closer to .350, depending on occupation and other matters.
Avatar m tn My WBC is getting a bit low (dropped slightly below 1.0). Going to get a shot of GCSF (Neupogen) tomorrow. Is it known to work most or all of the time?
Avatar n tn A low white blood cell count is to be expected while on treatment. The interferon injection is responsible for that. The thing is that the docs don't want it to go "too low." It seems that your doc is on top of things and is watching it. If your doc decides he needs to re-evaluate your dosage, ask him/her about a shot of Neupogen instead of reducing your meds.
1118724 tn?1357010591 //www.rxlist.com/neupogen-drug.htm "in cancer patients receiving NEUPOGEN® as an adjunct to myelosuppressive chemotherapy‚ it is recommended‚ to avoid the potential risks of excessive leukocytosis‚ that NEUPOGEN® therapy be discontinued if the ANC surpasses 10‚000/mm3 after the chemotherapy-induced ANC nadir has occurred. Doses of NEUPOGEN® that increase the ANC beyond 10‚000/mm3 may not result in any additional clinical benefit.
672272 tn?1226002550 I'm new to the group and I don't understand all the abbreviations for things.. For example, tx, & svr equal treatment and sustained virological response. A glossary would be helpful.
Avatar f tn I wouldn't automatically rule out an Infectious Diseases specialist to treat with but I suppose I'd gravitate more towards a GI and even better a Hepatologist. All in all, any one of them could be current or not with treatment practices and new advances in Hep C treatment and studies. With any of them, it's a buyer beware thing.
Avatar f tn 5) The use is of neupogen for hepC patients is somewhat controversial and may be unnecessary. There was a thread on this yesterday. I suggest you read it.
Avatar f tn I've had 3 surgeries for breast cancer. Lymph nodes were 8 out of 12 positive but the last 3 were microscopic. Can Neupogen be used in place of Taxol? I've read that Neupogen attackes the cancer cells more with better results. Whn my cells were tested they found that the good cells were really attacking the bad ones. I'm just afraid that reg chemo will mess this all up and I won't have anymore good cells to help fight. What is the best thin to do?
Avatar f tn Neupogen is a new med for him, also Procrit is another new med for him. Obviously I have gotten some spellings incorrect. What I want to do is look up these meds and make a document for him that is easier to read regarding side effects, etc. But, this is not possible until I find someone who knows how to spell these meds, and/or maybe knows something about their side effects personally. Would someone out there please help me with this?
1253246 tn?1332073310 White blood cells are an important part of our immune system. Neutrophils are one component of the white cells; they are in part responsible for fighting bacterial infection. When we use interferon, it can suppress bone marrow production of these cells, leaving us more prone to infection. This is an unfortunate side effect of interferon, by the way.
Avatar m tn Generally, Inteferon affects the white cells (Neupogen is used) and Ribavirin affects the hemoglobin (Mircera is used). Once treatment ends and the drugs are out of her system the blood counts should go back to where they were before treatment. Ribavirin lasts a little longer in the system (a few weeks) than Interferon (a week or two). So, shortly after treatment end she will probably not need those two. The more curious is the platelet level.
Avatar f tn After my first injection and at my first appt after that injection, my PA said my labs were really crazy and gave me an injection of Neupogen and a prescription for it. I have only 9 shots left and have been taking the Neupogen 3 times a week for the entire tx. They almost took me to 4 times a week. Even with 3 weekly injections of Neopogen my WBC and ANC's are still low. I guess without the Neupogen they would be non-existent.
541844 tn?1244309824 Has anyone taken neupogen to increase neutrophil count before starting treatment? My numbers are low, but not that low, and Dr. suggested and tried to get pre-approval for neupogen (ins. wants more info). My ANC was 800 (10/07); 1350 (1/08); and 1790 (5/08). I can see his reasoning - build it up before tx knocks it down. Just wondering if anyone else had/has a similar beginning. If so, did it work?
Avatar f tn So the doc finally agreed to a neupogen shot, after many delayed shots of pegasys. I was supposed to do a shot tuesday, however got bloodwork done today and anc is 620, Doc says to take neupogen tonight (I did, the neupogen is 300mcg, im ~130lbs) and get more bloodwork done on thursday, and then he'll call friday with whether or not to take the shot or not. So here I am, waiting, again. Arggg!
547836 tn?1302832832 When I tried to treat in 2004-- my doc didn't know about Neupogen & Procrit-- and at 6 wks took me off treatment because my WBC dropped too low and my red count below 7! So this time I'm with a Liver Specialist (not a GI Doc) who at my 3rd week when my WBC dropped to 1--and neutrophills were less than 700 put me on Neupogen right away.. I'm on my 25th week now and have been on Neupogen ever since...at my 12th week I went to doing the shot every other week...
1501377 tn?1291508678 I posted some weeks back "treatment options" when deciding whether to proceed with present 2x tx or wait for Telaprevir. Am stage 4 (metavir) with portal hypertension, varices developing (fortunately not osoephogeal yet) - also have high bp (managed by meds) and brain aneurism. Platelets 68, neuts 1.6, hgb 13.9.. Have decided to do 2x in may/june and test my response. If unimpressive by week 4 I would cease then, but, in Aus.
Avatar m tn It has been one week since the last treatment and my WBC count is 900 (ninehundred) Can they now give me a neupogen shot. I would think they should take a count daily. and give Neupogen if it till it corrects.
Avatar m tn Next time I try treatment I'm going to suggest to my doctor to prescribe neupogen and procrit before I start to get the counts up. Mine have always dropped into the low range. I found especially the neupogen made me feel rough after I was already well into treatment and didn't do a whole lot. Why don't doctors prescribe it before treatment? Would there be a downside to that?
Avatar n tn low blood count started neupogen injections to build up white blood cell count so I can have chemotherapy, can I drink beer with this?
