Avatar f tn I went to the doctor and was told I had nail fungus and needed Lamisil. One tablet, once a day for 3 months. They took and ran tests of my blood to test my liver and they said all tests came back normal. They went ahead and said to begin taking the medication. I'm 21 and relatively healthy. I'm afraid to take Lamisil though. I've heard the side effects are horrible. Should I be worried?
Avatar f tn I might be in the wrong forum as well but I was prescribed lamisil after a positive test for Onychomycosis on my toenails. I was told to take one tablet a day for 3 months. My doctor did check my liver before starting and he called to say everything was normal and to go forth with the treatment. I've heard so many bad things from hair loss, death, loss of taste and I'm so scared.
Avatar m tn I was wondering if anyone out there really has had a bad health experience with the combination of having Hep B for many years, although my Hep B has been dormant for the past 14 years and has not started to do anything to my liver as of today, and taking presciption strength Lamisil for toe nail fungus. My Dr. put me on the Lamisil for 12 weeks and says that after 6 weeks we will check my blood and liver to see if there is any change in my Hep B.

Avatar n tn Hi, Since your nail condition has not been given proper diagnosis ,you may discuss with your physician a nail biopsy. Nail biopsy is done to determine the cause of the condition. Based on the results of the biopsy, your physician may opt for nail surgery as a method of treatment. For patient who underwent nail surgery indications include chronic infections like fungal infections , nail tumors (which I believe is not applicable in your case) and in some trauma and unknown causes. Avatar m tn You would have to take a prescription oral drug (Lamisil) for three months then it kills the nail. I just went through this with my toe nail. The nail is usually yellowish.
1430129 tn?1283281475 I have a nail fungus that I've dealt with for nearly two years. I have had my doctor prescribe cream, I also took Lamisil (spelling?) I went to the dermatologist with my son yesterday, and he told me to file the side of my nail with the fungus all the way down, he said in order to get rid of the fungus that's in my nail, I have to get rid of that part of my nail. Is this true? I also think I have a fungus on one of my toenails.
2209241 tn?1339023213 It sounds like you have toenail fungus. You need to take an antifungal medicine orally (Lamisil) for 3 months and you will lose the nail(s). The natural remedies don't work to my knowledge as you have penetrate the nail and the other drugs don't do that.
Avatar f tn I unexpectedly got nail fungus last year, and I treated it with topical tea tree oil and I took Dr Mercola's Probiotic Packs Daily for bout 2 monts, it cleared it up and they have been fine since.
1415174 tn?1453243103 Did you have a toe nail bed infection in addition to the toe nail fungus? Did your toe nail fall off or did it just penetrate the nail itself? I am taking the oral Lamisil (luckily my insurance pays for it) and so far so good (check my liver enzymes in a month). I am also taking sulfamethoxazole/trimethoprim for the anti bacterial. Yeah I know vinegar is a great cleaner and has many uses. We use it to clean our bathroom floors and even on pergo it doesn't seem to cause any damage.
483814 tn?1214311480 I've heard of people having luck with various tree oils, eucalyptus (Vicks vapor rub), tea tree, etc. I have had toenail fungus for years, and found most doctors won't prescribe Lamisil even if you have a normal liver. I tried to get it before my diagnosis and no luck. Now a friend of mine went through the same thing and was able to convince his doctor's partner to write the prescription.
Avatar m tn About 10 years ago I went to the nail salon and added nail tips to my fingernails. A week later I went back to remove them. Soon after removing the nail tips, I started noticing my nails on my thumbs started to change colors. I went to the dermatologist and they prescribed Penlac to treat the nail fungus. After using Penlac for a while I noticed that it was not working for me. After that, I went back to the dermatologist and they did a culture and they said it was a fungus.
Avatar m tn the fungus now has a great area to thrive. cut all the free nail back. apply Lamisil cream (over the counter) to the area daily. if you don't see improvement, see your podiatrist.
Avatar n tn Did I get Lupus from meds I took for a Nail Fungus? Will it go away? I am now 36 y/old and it seems odd that I would just now be diagnosed. I have regular routine blood work at my regular doctor and have had issues with my Thyroid. (a goiter and false positive cancer) In other words, I've had lots of blood work and they are just now discovering this? I do have family members with autoimmune diseases, but not Lupus. Any help or advice would be appreciated.
Avatar n tn I already had toe nail fungus and took lamisil for 90 days, then was diagnosed with versicolor, took 2 different sets of pills for two months and used some spray, then everything was okay. Now I have red marks (versicolor) again on my stomach and I am starting to wonder if i have more fungus on my legs and arms because my hair breaks and i have pimple like things on my arms and legs (look like ingrowns) and I also am losing more hair than normal and I have a patch of hair that is missing...
Avatar n tn well long story short i did get a good pedicure and the tech cut my toe nail and pulled some build up from under neath the nail. i have no doubt i still have alot of fungus. NOW THE QUESTION IS COULD THAT CAUSE A FALSE POSITIVE HERPES TEST. i was diagnosis about 2 weeks ago and my doctor said she was not concerned and did not want to put me on any meds because i never had a episode. she said i tested positive for herpes and my igg was 2.
Avatar f tn I did not realize it was actually a vein until I tried to file it down smooth and it bled. I do know I have somewhat of a nail fungus as well because the nail has been peeling for several years. Not think and yellow though. My podiatrist want to remove the nail and biopsy the area. Not sure what to do about this. He says with Lamisil for 90 days, the nail will grow back healthy. Any thoughts?
1745647 tn?1394105276 First, you should see a pediatrist to diagnose this condition but from what you are describing it could be a fungus that can be cured by a medication called Lamisil. Check with your Doctor first. They may draw a sample of blood first to check your liver function prior to you starting this med.

Avatar f tn m hoping for opinions concerning a new drug my dermatologist has added. Prescribed Lamisil 250 mg for 24 wks, (oral). He is drawing liver profile labs every month. I guess I'm alittle worried since I just got rid of the virus in January, an this med. can possibly be rough on the liver. I have an extremely painful case of fungal nails for years. I'm not that vain, an would let them remove the nails permanently, but dr.
Avatar f tn I will mostly likely be back in to see my doctor or a dermatologist at this time. I may need to take more Lamisil (do not want this fungus to come back) and I will need to do something about this allergy rash. Thanks for your input.
