Morphine dosage range

Common Questions and Answers about Morphine dosage range

So your total morphine intake per day is 105-150 mg. The 25 mcg/hr patch is equivalent to the morphine dose range of 60-134 mg and the 50 mcg/hr patch is equivalent to the morphine dose range of 135-224. So either the 25 or 50 mcg/hr patch would give you dosing within the range of the morphine you are taking orally right now. Given that your morphine dose falls on the lower end of the 50 mcg/hr patch, it is probably wise to start off on the 25 mcg/hr patch to see how you do first.
the dopiness mentioned was more of a drugged out stupor for me and only occurred at dosage changes. Tingling in the fingers or toes lessens over time; occasionally have bad days. I do tend to have numbness in the tips of my fingers most of the time. These things I've gotten use to. What I've finally discovered from reading here, is the cause of the hair loss which was extreme over the last six months.
Hi everyone, This is my first post but as many of you have noticed, I have been around answering questions for quite awhile now. My question is has anyone switched from Morphine Sulfate ER to the newly formulated Oxycontin OP? If yes, could you tell me if you experienced better pain relief after switching? Reason I am asking: I had a doctors appointment today to say goodbye to my PCP that has been treating my chronic pain for over 5 years now.
I was in hospital once for pain management for ruptured ovarian cyst and they had me on morphine...I am not sure dosage or how often but I tried to wait forever for another dose because I wanted to go home and not have to take the meds and the nurse lectured me for letting my pain get to far out of control and that I needed to request the meds and take them. Weird huh!! Again I would inform the hospital!
I want to thank everyone who left me notes/messages today -- I posted my mood this morning early because I knew I was going to have a hard day and wouldn't be able to be online. You can't imagine how I felt when I logged on to see all the notes and messages. It makes me feel so special and I can't tell you what your caring means to me. Please forgive me for not answering each one individually........because they are all SO important...........you'll never imagine.......
MANY people need to have their FT4 in the MIDDLE of the range AND, that means in addition, they need their FT3 to be in the UPPER 1/3 of the range in order to feel well. Simply being in range means ABSOLUTELY NOTHING! Depression and anxiety are fairly common symptoms for Thyroid imbalance. With pain in the base of your neck you may also want to ask about having a Thyroid or ultrasound done to check for enlargement or nodules etc.
I am prescribed 60 mg of morphine morning and night, 1-200 mg. of Seroquel at night, and 90 mg of Cymbalta daily. I still am in pain frequently, and 1-2 days a week I end up taking an extra morphine during the day just to ebb the intensity - it never fully goes away. I am still able to function rather well on the amount of morphine I take, even with an extra one thrown in periodically. Should I still be in this much pain?
I was able to abruptly quit with the help of nicotine lozenges, and my dosage of them today is down to about 20 mg./day. For one month after I quit, there was a dramatic improvement in my breathing and well-being - the wheezing disappeared after a few days. Then, 5 months ago, I started experiencing dizziness, tachycaria (120's), hypotension (lowest 78/43 - barely able to make it back to the house from the yard) and extreme fatigue - all this with any kind of exertion.
Opana ER has the new TimerX technology that is supposed to keep a steady level of the medication in your system for the full 12 hours versus the medicine tapering off after 6-8 hours in the case of morphine sulfate ER and Oxycontin. The have a wide range of strengths available with even a low enough dose of the opioid naiive patient. I won't start taking it until Monday after I speak with my doctor about the dosing as I think it is a little on the high side, especially at night.
Here is some info I found on the www.janis7hepc.com site which has a LOT of info about liver diseases. As you can see, these elevated levels could mean many different things...I am sure putting him in the hospital will give them the opportunity to run more testing, and figure out what is causing this. With a high Alk. Phos. it could be gallstones blocking the duct in the liver...but not knowing his symptoms or history I cant guess nor am I a doctor!
Thankfully, despite all my surgeries and such, I've managed to avoid a morphine addiction. DO NOT increase the dosage of your morphine more than 100 or 200mg over what you're taking now. Talk to your doctor before you do this. You might want to bring up that morphine isn't working so he/she can help you with a new medication. I don't have disk problems, so I can't range your pain... But a rule I keep is to avoid medicine as much as possible, and try to keep the dosage small.
I used about 100-150 Mgs of codeine and sometimes about 200-400 of morphine daily. 5-7 roxy 30's and 2-4 morphine 100's a day. Now I've not touched a pill but I do take 150 methadone daily since February 6 of this year. Is this a horrible thing I'm doing or what?
His attitude is to find the right medication at the correct dosage so one can participate in life. Maybe it's time you found another doctor who specializes in pain management.
I have all the time in the world to taper down on the morphine ER and then at least 1/2 of my Norco dosage. My doctor isn't a pain management doctor and so he was just trying to give me relief. He has now referred me to pain management which I can't get in to see that doc until 7-25. Thanks again!
Tramadol is a drug of abuse and you should be aware if any person in the household is using this medicine improperly or without a prescription Seizure Risk Seizures have been reported in patients receiving tramadol within the recommended dosage range. Spontaneous post-marketing reports indicate that seizure risk is increased with doses of tramadol above the recommended range.

i already take LOTS and i mean LOTS of very strong medication including morphine, oramorph, tramadol, baclofen, dihydrocodeine, arthrotec etc.... .although i was starting to taper down when this started ( my own choice as i have the chance of getting into a detox in-patient 5/7 day detox course ), i have unfortunately had to increase my morphine and oramorph to try and combat the pain but i have now realised that even this isn't working. i am at a loss as to what to do now.

I only took 1 or 2 4mg hydromorphone every 4-6 hours.....pharmicist says thats way within tolerble range. The thing that got me was the cutting me off cold turkey, I have NEVER "come down" of anything and it freaked me out!!! I was taking these for 4 mo. all I got was a # to a detox center, who couldn't help me and thought I was crazy,.....anyway I go today to UWMC for eval and blood draw, I had this done 2 weeks ago, what are they looking for?
In October she gave me a climbing dose of Topomax, but I was still getting headaches. In January, she increased me dosage on Topamax to 50mg BID for 3 months on a 2 month refill. In April, I had a headache every single day. I am full time student doing pre-reqs for the Nursing program at my local community college. I went to see her in May and she gave me prescription for Fioricet. One night, I had a bad headache and had taken 3x220mg Aleve at 5pm and another 220mg at 11pm.
I have taken warfarin for several years, and I never have a headache. I take 5 mg per day, what is your dosage? I didn't look up the side effects for warfarin. Does it include headache?

Sorry, I thought your TSH result was for unmedicated status...ie. I thought that you were not on any thyroid medication currently. Since you are already being treated, the goal is to keep the TSH more in the "ideal" range...usually somewhere from 0.75 to about 2.0 So I guess they just see a dosage adjustment as a standard step, and I would tend to understand their thinking.
Fetanyl is literally a hundred times as potent as morphine. 0.05-0.10 mg. is equivalent to 10-30 mgm's. morphine. This super strength per mg makes it ideal to use in an transdermal patch. Joe, there is a GAP in time that you must allow for the formulation in the patch to work. I cannot remember the specifics on how much time must past before the patch starts working. Ask your doctor or phamacists. I am sure they will have that information.
Oral doses of benzodiazepines in the dosage range used for insomnia or anxiety can also cause memory impairment. Acquisition of new information is deficient, partly because of lack of concentration and attention. In addition, the drugs cause a specific deficit in "episodic" memory, the remembering of recent events, the circumstances in which they occurred, and their sequence in time.
Did you have a pain contract? And did you increase your dosage of the hydrocodone without your doctor's permission? If so, then they do have the right to drop you as a patient. Some doctors won't even help with withdrawal symptoms. Over time some pain patients do need their medications increased. But it's something we have to be very careful about. Even taking one extra pill ever could be cause for dismissal.
I was on the fentanyl patch, not the gel type and I had nearly immediate relief. I was on the 100mcg, highest dosage(I don't know if there is a higher does now, this was 6 years ago) and I had to change the patch every 72 hours. I mean sweet relief. But after using the patch for a few months, the dosage began to wear off before it was time to change the patch.
For children the normal dose is between 1 mg (1/300th of the maximum safe dosage) to 3 mg (1/100th of the maximum safe dosage). Also, the immune modulating affect of the opioid antagonist, Naltrexone, have been shown to improve the liver’s condition, including reducing ALT/AST levels, cholestasis-induced liver injury, liver fibrosis, and hepatitis. Those clinical trails will be posted separately under the “Files” Yahoo Group Section (under the “Treatment-Low Dose Naltrexone” Folder).
