Avatar n tn My doctor prescribed me metronidazole because of my yeast infection but I'm really "iffy" about taking it because I don't want to harm my baby. Have any of u guys taken metronidazole while pregnant ?
1245078 tn?1268578722 Are you on the pill? I used to have chronic yeast infections for years in my early twenties. Like you, I followed my doctor's advice and was very careful but nothing helped until I stopped taking the pill (it has something to do with the artificial estrogen). So if that could be the reason, you might want to talk to your doctor about alternative methods of contraception.
Avatar f tn the brownish/or blood discharge went away, but now I'm not sure if I have a yeast infection or if it is still the bv? there seems to be alot of discharge still its not brownish or blood anymore it's yellowish-clear but it itches down there. My period is late and it is NEVER late. I have always had regular on time periods, never late or early, never spotting except 4 when I had something wrong. Doesn't the BV medicine can cause yeast infections right?

Avatar f tn Sounds like a yeast infection. Was it antibiotics that you were on? I never got yeast infections until i got pregnant and took antibiotics.
1054108 tn?1314298660 My OB has prescribed me fluconazole 150 mg (one tablet only) for yeast infection and metronidazole 500 mg (to take for seven days) to treat bacterial vagnosis infection. She said it is safe however I am still hesitating. Please I need your advices.
Avatar n tn at this point it's best to be following up with your provider when you have symptoms of yeast to get properly tested to make sure yeast really is the issue. sometimes breaking the yeast cycle is hard so it's best for a proper follow up and testing. bc pills can also add to these issues. you might need to try a different brand to see if that helps too.
Avatar m tn So here's the deal, I have had a yeast infection for about 2 years. i have been given Gynazole (sp), miconazole, metronidazole, flagyl, fluconazole, and have also tried tioconazole, to no avail. So I stopped going to doctors for it. But now I want to get an IUD, and I am wondering if the IUD can be inserted during the presence of a yeast infection? I know certain infections are contraindications, but are yeast infections? I don't think they can spread to the cervix/uterus.
1308690 tn?1273696411 Intravaginal clindamycin cream is preferred in case of allergy or intolerance to metronidazole. Intravaginal metronidazole gel can be considered for patients who do not tolerate systemic metronidazole, but patients allergic to oral metron-idazole should not be administered intravaginal metronidazole. I do not know what pills you are on but If you have an allergy or intolerance to metronidazole then the insurance company would most likely place you on Intravaginal clindamycin cream.
Avatar f tn I agree that Vancomycin is an option instead of the metronidazole. Although Vancomycin also has it side effects. It is the next drug in line if you want to continue the drug route. It won't cause peripheral neuropathy. It is something to discuss. Yes a "friendly" yeast is a good addition to the probiotics. Since you are being treated right now with Nystatin. It may kill of the yeast for now but after the Nystatin is finished it will be a good addition. Some things to think about.
Avatar f tn And BV usually improves, at least transiently, with metronidazole or tinidazole. And yeast infections always are a consideration for unexplained vaginal discharge, although your symptoms are not typical for yeast. Most physicians would have evaluated you for yeast BV, but you might check back with them to be certain.
37251 tn?1236526586 and Iam a clean person I take care of myself very well ,,, but im getting a odor down there like a fishy kind of smell and this is a first...is it from the medicine?I heard you get yeast infections from the penicillen so far Ive never had a yeast infection nor a UTI..so Im really unsure what it could be. the symptoms include : a fishy smell , and dryness. also a tad painfull when i wash that area with soap.
Avatar f tn I visited the doctor Monday with a vaginal infection and was given Metronidazole to start taking. I went back for results Wednesday and I was confirmed to have BV. My doctor then gave me Erythromycin to take (2, twice a day)... as well as the Metronidazole (3, three times a day). This seems like an awful lot of antibiotics. Why was I given Erythromycin, when from as far as I can tell, Metronidazole alone is the recommended treatment for BV? Hope someone can shed some light on this. Thanks!
Avatar f tn OK that's for yeast infection. so now you have been given treatment for everything.. antibiotic, antiparasitic, anti-fungal. Staph infection is very common, it also depends on the type of Staph. because that type of bacteria is commonly present in our body. Also test the vaginal PH, if the value is altered, it can be the reason why your body isn't fighting the infection properly. mind the clothes you use, the water, everything.
Avatar m tn t tell you why. Yeast infections can occur wherever conditions are right for them and if your immune system, mainly your beneficial probiotic organisms, are no longer a healthy colony. Guess what disrupts them the most? Antibiotics.
Avatar f tn For yeast infections I was always given either monistat or fluconazole. A bacterial infection like BV would require metronidazole (flagyl).
Avatar f tn She prescribed a vaginal gel, Metronidazole, for the BV. After one use of the BV I constantly felt like I had to pee no matter if I went to the bathroom or not. I stopped using the Metronidazole. The next day, Friday, I still had somewhat frequent urination, but not like the side effects of the Metronidazole. I couldn't get a hold of my family practitioner, so I tried a daily boric acid suppository for the BV starting Friday night. The following day, Saturday, I had symptoms of a UTI.
Avatar f tn Its typical for a doc to swab which tells them if you have vaginitis. The three main causes of vaginitis are infections like bacterial vaginosis, yeast, or the trichomoniasis.
Avatar m tn recently, my wife has been having frequent yeast infections. Her doctor confirmed it was yeast and gave her Didlucan 150mg. She would take over the counter yeast infection medication and it would go away and seems to come back maybe a week or two later after we have sex(unprotected). She has had her annual pap and described symptoms to her doctor. Her doctor stated that she was fine because if it was something else, yeast medication would not have releaved her symptoms.
Avatar f tn I have lower back pain as well and also before this I did have a yeast infection but my yeast infections never burn and itch this bad. I also had an early and heavy period. Could this be from taking a plan b or from stopping the pep medicine? I’m going to the doctors tomorrow but it’s so bad I can’t take it. If I have an std then that means he lied about the test and is showing me someone else’s results which could also mean I contracted hiv as well. Im really scared and I regret everything.
Avatar f tn But ive been having flank pain is it possible i have all three UTI,BV,and small yeast infection? If so would the metronidazole for my BV cure the UTI?
Avatar n tn I was given metronidazole to treat Bacterial Vaginosis for twice a day for 5 days, it worked within the 2-3 day the odor cleared up, no itching nothing, however after i finished what i was prescribed to take, i started to have dryness and was itching again , i have phoned the GUM and im not happy with the responce I had as they gave no help or information , but told me to wait until my other results come back for sti's, I dont understand because the treatment has worked but now that ive fini
Avatar f tn Its for genital infections. A doctor prescribe it to me because i was having heavy discharge. Am hesitant to take it bacause he did not check what am really having.
Avatar f tn After an entire cycle, I went to the gyno and got a swab which was a positive for BV and Yeast. I was given one dose medicine for the yeast and a week prescription of metronidazole of two tablets per day. The yeast and BV seemed to go away, but while taking this I began spotting again- my period had lasted three days prior to taking this medicine and then 14 days in I had brown bloody discharge, then clear discharge with bleeding then what looked like a light period!
