Avatar m tn Are there other COPD sufferers out there with pectus excavatum, and how does this effect the accuracy of your FEV1 reading? According to recent chest x-ray and CT-scan I have Stage 3 COPD with chronic and widespread emphysema and bronchitis. I have been experiencing periods of extreme breathlessness and a recent sleep apnea test showed my oxygen levels drop as low as 82% when sleeping.
1017020 tn?1251253324 My Grandma on my Mom's side is diagnosed with CHF and COPD. My Mom died last year during a heart cath procedure and on her autopsy report under other causes to death they listed CHF and COPD. I just turned 22 today and was wondering if there is a chance that I might end up with either of these and if so if there is any prevention I can take now to limit my chances of getting it. Thank you.

Avatar m tn Ever since, I have had shortness of breath and a slight pain right below my right collar bone when I do a deep inhale. I take Plaxiz, Metoprolol, and aspirin on a daily basis. Periodically, I feel very fatigued even though I have not done anything strenuous. Any idea why I am constantly short of breath?
Avatar n tn What meds is your father taking? I am convinced that Metoprolol following my failed angioplasty caused me to develop COPD. I couldn't sleep lying down; couldn't walk far without stopping to gasp for air; was leaking urine all the time. Now I'm on an inhaler for the rest of my life.
Avatar f tn I was scheduled for a Persantine Cardiac Stress Test as I have COPD. After 15 minutes w/my arms above my shoulders for the first scan I told them I could NOT do the second scan. They encouraged me to continue the test and they would tie my hands above my head for the second 15 minute scan. I was reluctant but agreed. My shoulders ached so bad long before the scan was finished that I asked them to undo my wrists and let my arms down and they just told me it wouldn't be that much longer.
Avatar m tn emphasema, exercise induced asthma, COPD, chronic bronchitis And I've been in and out of afib at least 2 years and I suspect much longer. Recently having high blood pressure issues.
Avatar n tn Just on Enalapril and Metoprolol extended release. Keeping my pressure in the 120-140 over 58-72 range with a HR in the 68-85 range. I have CHF with EF 10-15%, member since 1997 :) along with COPD down to 25% lung function. Good luck to you!
Avatar m tn My mother has a rapid irregular heartbeat (recently, sometimes even despite Metoprolol and Warfarin) and supposedly mild COPD with a possible touch of pneumonia and was hospitalized this weekend because she was saying she was having palpitations and was too tired to sit up and it was too hard for her to breath laying down.
Avatar f tn they put the new medicated stent in. I take metoprolol, isosorbide, metformin, aspirin, buspar, effexor, nexium, pravastatin. My problem is that I still have chest pains, shortness of breath, dizziness, light headedness It wasn't to bad right after the first one but after the 2nd one it has steadily gotten worse.. My doctor has ran all the test including stress test with dye, echo cardio& blood work. Everything has come back good. He said the blood flow is good.

12182312 tn?1427683956 SSRIs like paroxetine are a type of antidepressant that works by increasing the amount of serotonin in the brain, while metoprolol is a beta blocker which works on the heart. What type of metoprolol are you taking. Metoprolol Tartrate or Metoprolol Succinate?
Avatar f tn Im already on 100 mg 1 time a day of extended release Metoprolol.....and I think, just to appease me, because ive had a couple really really bad days of almost nonstop palps..he said to increase my Metoprolol to 1 100mg tablet in the morning...and 1 100mg tablet at night. Anyone EVER been on such a huge dose before??? I trust him...but yet....Im scared to take that much!!! ANY info on SVC OR Metoprolol would be appreciated!
Avatar n tn I have taken Toprol xl 25 mg for about 5 years. My doctor switched me to metoprolol several months ago. When I filled my prescription this time, it was from a different mfg and I think I may be having problems with it as I just don't feel right. Could changing the mfg make a difference? ALSO, my doctor prescribed 50 mg to be cut in half for my prescribed 25 mg dose. Does cutting this tablet in half compromise the time release?
Avatar n tn I have been having some strange symptoms since starting metoprolol as a migraine preventative. My head feels like it weighs a ton, and there is a lot of pressure up there, too. I've also been experiencing blurry vision and some concentration issues. I also take lithium, trazodone and neurontin and a rare xanax.
443862 tn?1237999439 I don't think the metoprolol, a beta blocker which; reduces the force and rate of the contraction of the heart, is causing this. The medicines that you take for hyperthyroidism might cause some exacerbation of the "hard heart beat" symptoms, especially if they are contraindicated with metoprolol, of course. Your doctor should be on top of this and I would let him know about it, especially if it just started, or is getting worse.
Avatar f tn Ok so I've been on Metoprolol 50-100mg a day for about a year for benign tachycardia. It's overall worked good for me. But I've noticed a decline in sexual function, specifically, more difficulty keeping an erection during sex. I'm about to start Cialis, so hopefully that will help regardless, but my cardiologist mentioned that I might try Cardizem. He was suggesting it had fewer sexual side effects.
Avatar n tn I have COPD. I caught a mild cold around thanksgiving. I secreted small amounts of clear mucous for about a week. I didn't cough regularly, but I did cough to clear my throat for a few days. I had a very mild sore throat for about a day. I never secreted any mucous with any infection. So my question is whether or not a mild cold like I have described would cause more loss of lung function?
17484539 tn?1580565249 org/diseases-conditions/copd/diagnosis-treatment/drc-20353685 Medicine has come a very long way and COPD IS often treatable. Let me know what has transpired since you posted this.
518117 tn?1429276273 I went for a second opinion with a pulmonologist. Diagnosis of COPD was confirmed. My only sibling a brother at the age of 47 was given the diagnosis of COPD as well. My brother was diagnosed approximately 6 months before my diagnosis. Our mother had idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. She passed away 4 months after a lung transplant. My mother's only sibling a brother passed away with end-stage COPD and CHF. My mother and her brother never smoked. Me, my brother and son smoked.
Avatar f tn I take this medication as well and have been on it for 3 years. I have never experienced depression while on this medication. I believe your doctor is correct in that this is not a side effect of the medication. I have not heard of weight gain from this medication as well. Maybe this is a side effect of your depression? In other words, you are eating more because you are depressed.
1618247 tn?1298753263 Can a pinched nerve be the cause of COPD? I was just diagnosed with COPD but the only symprom I have is occasional SOB. I do not have a cough, nor phlem. Stopped cigarettes 27 years ago and cigars 11 years ago. After a full hour of water aerobics, I do not have any breathing issues. A cold gust of wind may cause SOB. I do not have full flexibility of the left three fingers of my left hand (small to middle). I have not yet asked my PCP this ?
Avatar n tn I got the generic form but the cost is very high. Can he switch to metoprolol and take 50mg in the am and 50mg in the pm?
Avatar f tn He told me to wean off of the metoprolol for 5 days while taking the verapamil, and to cut down to 50mg on the metoprolol for the first day and go progressively down throughout the 5 days it takes for the verapamil to get in my system. I haven't started the verapamil yet. Partially because I have a hard time swallowing pills, partially because I am confused about the specifics of switching.
