Common Questions and Answers about Menstrual cramps post menopause

menstrual-cycle

Avatar n tn I am post-menopausal-- not having had a period in four years, but my twelve year old daughter just started her periods last month. Both last month and this month I have had menstrual like cramps and a bloated feeling starting the day before her period began and lasting 3-4 days. Before my daughter began menstruating I did not experience any of this "phantom cramping.
Avatar f tn Hello ~ I'm almost a year from my last period & I've had the blood word done & it said that I was in Post Menopause stage - how long till the night sweats & hot flashes stop??? Thanks!
Avatar f tn I am 30 yr old female and have pre ovarian failure and Add to dictionary thyroiditis. I went to the OB 3 separate times for what I thought was menstrual cramps. I had a vaginal ultrasound done two years ago, so no recent one was done in my 3 separate OB visits. The last visit the OB said it could be a gastro issue. I went to gastro and discussed my awful cramps along with symptoms of constipation followed by diarrhea and she ordered a flex sig and celiac test. Both normal.
Avatar n tn ve provided good info and a very optimistic look at this challenge called menopause. I am 47 and I just started to get the cramps although I've missed my period for the last 2 month. The cramps are pretty bad considering that I've never experienced them before during my period, I must say I've been pretty lucky. Thanks for sharing your experience with us. It helped a lot.
Avatar n tn At 47, menstrual changes can certainly be due to menopause approaching. But that is not the only reason. Hormonal problems and imbalances, thyroid problems, or mechanical problems such as fibroids and uterine polyps are common other things that can cause you to bleed abnormally. Iron deficiency is another. The best thing is to make an appointment with your doctor.
1582332 tn?1296924865 I always had intermittent bleeding ( 2 monthlys) and they were heavy.....and I went into early menopause...I did not have my dx at the time so I had no idea...but, I now know I also have a thyroid condition common with us chiarians...Hashimoto's thyroiditis. As Pam pointed out many of us will have to deal with autoimmune issues as well as connective tissue disorders....and Hashimotos is autoimmune. Also check into Ehlers-Danlos as well....
Avatar f tn True post menopause is 12 complete months without a period. Any less time, a woman can have a period and they can be very irradict. If you are indeed post-menopausal, then I would certainly see a gyn, post-menopausal bleeding always needs to be checked.
Avatar m tn Her period was suppose to start yesterday but it has not yet and we are not sure as to why it has not. She had one episode of cramps this morning but it was very short and ended soon after. I was reading "Lilalee" 's post and what she said about her problem with nexium and her symptoms are very similar to my girlfriends. I am open for any suggestions.
Avatar f tn The pain felt like menstrual cramps but without contractions (you know like 10 minutes of pain then ease for 3 minutes then back to 10 min.). What could be the cause of this?

Avatar f tn Prior to having kids I had terrible cramps but for an 8 year period following the birth of my first child my cramps were mild. In the 4-6 months prior to my dx I had cramps again that rendered me bedridden. I passed huge clots that just didn't seem normal. I even resorted to buying the heat wraps that you can wear all day because I couldn't go about my daily activities due to the excessive pain I had the first few days of my cycle.
8210549 tn?1397032061 Symptoms of hypothyroidism are fatigue, depression, weight gain, cold intolerance, dry, coarse hair and skin, constipation ,muscle cramps, decreased concentration, vague aches and pains, menstrual disorders, palpitation and swelling of the legs. I feel that you should consult a physician and get yourself and your thyroid hormone levels evaluated. Other than that get your estrogen, progesterone and FSH levels checked as hormonal imbalance in menopause can also cause such symptoms.
Avatar m tn m back to normal again but my dr an endo said it is not uncommon for a woman to get a couple of periods at the end of menopause post menopause I think they call it.
Avatar f tn Having the same cramps as Elvin due to total hysterectomy in 2003. The feel like menstrual cramps in lower right abdomen. Is this normal or should I be concerned. Where can I find the answer to my question? Thank you.
467797 tn?1216211257 I was beginning to suspect that I was entering an early menopause. But since the ablation, those symptoms have disappeared except the night sweats and insomnia - these are much more milder though. With the already lack of a menstrual cycle, how would I know when I hit menopause?
382218 tn?1341181487 Advil helps, just like it does with actual menstrual cramps. Any clue what this might be? My GP suggested it might just be due to ovulation but wouldn't it happen on some regular frequency if that's the case? I may ask her to order an ultrasound to make sure nothing serious is going on.
Avatar f tn I've been going through menopause I think for three years. ha. Not really funny but what can we do but laugh. So, things that I have as I go through this are yes, fatigue. Moodiness, scary. Insomnia that is cyclic and lasts for about 3 days before I DO get a period. Anxiety. I am opposite than you though in that as I neared the point I am now (no period for 9 months -- have to get to over a year for it to be 'official' menopause), I had very heavy periods.
532984 tn?1521151233 Hi, ladies, I am a newbie here but I need advice from people that I trust most -- NO, not doctors but rather you who have been in the trenches! :) I am a 54 yr old post-menopausal woman and within the past few weeks have experienced a rather sudden onset of early satiety, nausea (no vomiting), abdominal pain and urinary frequency. I've also found myself having breathlessness, but not sure if that's just lack of exercise or not.
Avatar n tn Hi. It could just be a cyst. I'm waiting to find out about mine - I see the gyn on Thursday. I'm 47 years old. My symptoms have been getting worse for about 8-10 months. They are: my periods which were clockwork 28 days began getting random. I'd have my period then again anywhere from 4 days to 2 weeks after it ended, get it again. Heavy bleeding (like post delivery). My cramps were like labor pains, including the lower back.
Avatar f tn I had really bad cramps yesterday but it could have been just my menstrual cycle im not too sure.do you bleed like a period if it does burst? Or just cramp? I have been researching it but I get many different answers....
Avatar f tn the last time I had my period it was normal and ONE WEEK after it finished I stared again but it was really heavy and I had sore breasts and terrible cramps and I had cravings and mood swings etc. ever since then I haven't had my period.
Avatar f tn m 40 years old, and judging by my older sisters and mother, I likely have another 11-12 years before menopause. Over the last year or two, my menstrual cramps have gotten much worse. I get chills and shakes, aches in my joints, nausea, headache, and massive cramps. I've tried heating pads, lots of fluids, bed rest, Aleve, and other OTC pain relief. I went to see a new midwife for my last annual about 18 mo ago and forgot to mention it to her, then felt embarrassed to call in about it.
Avatar f tn Even one of my friend is suffering with the similar type of issue she is having breast cancer and her menstrual cycle is very irregular like she has periods twice in six months and when it comes she has to face heavy bleeding with menstrual cramps. Some how with the use of menstrual cups she manages the bleeding but the pain and other problems she faces during this is unbearable.Check here for more information about menstruation at http://www.cupissima.com .
