Avatar m tn Hi everybody, iv been referring to these forums for a while to relate some of my post tbi problems to others to feel a little more connected and normal and i really appreciate any feedback given here as im running out of patience and ideas. Im a paratrooper in the us army, recovering from a deployment related blast exposure tbi in september 2012 and more recently a airborne operations malfunction that resulted in a moderate tbi august 2013.
Avatar m tn My cousin had a similar incident and he smokes weed to help cope with the side effects of his TBI...memory loss, anxiety, concentration, headaches. I know it doesn't make sense but you can definately tell a difference when he smokes and when he doesn't. For the record I am not an advocate for recreational marijuana use but if it helps in medical situations then I am all for it....
Avatar f tn My boyfriend was in a wreck in 2004 was actually DOA went into comma never thought he would live if so would be a vegetable, but luckily if u met him on the street u would have no idea. With the TBI he has the compulsive behavior along with a few other behavioral and memory problems. We now know he should have went to a center for acute TBI but was never informed of this.
Avatar m tn I already have problems with my memory from my TBI and this drug made me forget EVERYTHING. I would honestly forget what day it was, I would go to classes on the wrong days, skip classes entirely, forget about homework, forget peoples names, it was terrible. I think that is pretty the same across the board with seizure medicine though.
Avatar n tn Saying I was uncontrollable and mean. anyone with tbi knows just dealing with life without the additional problems of trying to cope with additional stress of divorce and custody factors are in itself almost impossible. to make matters worse i had another tbi accident last dec when i was at work. i had a grand mal and had hit my head that required stitches. my x then took visitation away from me.
Avatar f tn Has anybody out there experienced a dramatic effect after being prescribed Amantadine for TBI? After a clipping of PCOM aneursym I became increasing fatigued and apathetic- to the point of being close to non-functional. Testing showed I now have a verbal learning deficit, but my MRI is normal. A neurologist decided to treat it as TBI and prescribed the Amantadine. He said it might improve my memory, but what actually happened was a huge change in perception and the disappearance of the fatigue.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with TBI several years ago and have had the same symptoms/problems until a few weeks ago. I dont notice anything wrong or feel different and I havent had any lifestyle changes for this to occur but... i get the mail each day(or so I thought) and its so packed i cant get the key in. when i look at the oldest postmark and then compare it to my calendar a week has gone by. Its always Friday. Whats happening the rest of the week?
Avatar f tn Many people, even after a mild head injury, are never able to return to work after TBI given you can also experience attention, memory and cognitive problems after a head injury. Brain rehab is available if you find you are also dealing with any of the other TBI symptoms. Neuropsych testing (written and verbal testing done by a neuropsychologist) can help identify areas of the brain that may not be quite functioning properly. Your other issues may also have resolved themselves.
Avatar f tn When I was 19 I was hit by a semi and recieved a tbi also. My memory is still a struggle daily. A lot of people think that i am ditzy when really I just do not remember things. For about 2 years after the accident I was suffering from terrible migranes like you are. Nothing worked for me because my tollerance to medicine was so high from all the morphine the hospital gave me. I began going to a massage theapist and then straight to a chiropractor.
Avatar m tn A brain injured patient, even mildly (subclinical TBI) with low growth hormone may show memory decline and impaired cognitive function, similar to Alzheimer's Disease. 3. Free T3, Free T4 AND Reverse T3 for proper thyroid function testing. Standard serum testing only reveals serum levels, not function! 4. Cortisol and DHEA levels. Look into: Functional Adrenal Stress Profile – BH #201 – Cortisol x 4, 2 averaged DHEA-S by BioHealth Labs.
Avatar f tn Since then I have experienced dizziness, changing blurred vision, nausea, and changing right eye pupilalation, pain and sensivity to light/glare. After developing cognitive/memory problems I was sent last October for neuropsych testing and discovered that I do have mild post concussive syndrome that was missed given my brain injury did not show with an MRI at the time of the accident. I have since also been diagnosed with cutaneous lupus, sjogren's and fibromyalgia.
Avatar n tn All the blood work was ok, he was a little low on potasium, but the mri showed no bleeding, they had not answers for me! Im scared. Now it appears he has a memory problem. I asked him to meet me today, with his sister at a store where we met just yesterday and he replied,"I was'nt there". Totaly not remembering any of it. are we missing something? could the bump on the head outside cause him to collapse when he walked inside?
Avatar f tn It is best to get evaluated at a neuropsychiatry and neuropsychology department. In contrast with a neuropsychologist, who evaluates mostly cognitive problems (language, memory, planning, learning, decision-making), a neuropsychiatrist specializes in behavioral disorders after TBI. I know that sounds like a lot. I'm only assuming the worst. Use your best judgment in deciding whether his actions are purely of free will.

Avatar f tn My youngest son take Aderall for his ADHD and I have heard that is it effective from people such as myself that suffer from short-term memory loss...? I do not want to become addicted to any drug but is this medically effective to take?
Avatar f tn Several years ago I fell in love with a man who has a TBI. It was very complicated because I was young, he was living with his parents, and needs round the clock care. To further complicate the issue, he's non verbal and uses a computer device and some hand signals and sounds to communicate. I get him, I love him, and I wanted him. The problem was that I was young and inexperienced.
Avatar f tn I had an mri done in june and it showed several white matter foci in the subcortical white matter, they are small but several, ihave chronic fatigue, memory loss depression, poor concentration, also had vertigo 3 times this year, i also have sleep problems, diagnosed as nonrestorative sleep, i also had a spinal tap and there were no obligonal bands, what could this be?

Avatar n tn I am grateful that something does work, but the side effects are severe- memory problems. Sorry, I wish I had better advice to help you, but at this point can offer only my support and understanding.
Avatar f tn Hello. You are definately NOT alone! I share your problems and have yet to find answers. I had a TBI 3 1/2 years ago, I don't have the answers you seek but I do know what you're going through as I am dealing with similar issues. And it's difficult to sort through these problems when part of the problem is dealing with details and memory! Keep plodding through the mess, and if nothing else at least you'll feel better for moving forward. Again, you are not alone.
Avatar f tn My husband had the same tumor and now is having the same symptoms. He was tested by a neuropsych. exam and results indicate there is a deficit in the frontal lobe. Which is the reason he has gotten demoted from his job for the second time. He has problems with some memory, impulsivity, can't take a joke, takes everything litterally, has problems with time, multi-tasking is a problem and is very snippy along with many other problems, it's almost like he has severe ADHD.
Avatar f tn You have symptoms of mild TBI (traumatic brain injury). MRI and CAT scans are often normal. 15% of people with mild TBI have symptoms that last one year or more. Treatment is rest and restricting activities (temporarily reduce time spent on sports, video games, TV, too much socialising) along with medications to help with symptoms such as pain killers and anti-nausea medication.
6602510 tn?1382882046 Was hit by a drunk driver in 08 and suffered severe TBI. I have tics, about 3 headaches/migraines a week, dizziness/balance issues and short term memory issues. I have adapted to these changes however, it seems that they have gotten worse with additional symptoms (the constant nausea and short term). I will get up to get something and by the time I get to the room, I have no idea why I got up.
Avatar n tn t quit, it it manifested in a leg tremor and I am confused with poor short term memory, angry and filled with rage, exhuasted and recently have put on 30 pounds in the last year. I don't sleep well. A sleep study reported mild OBA and endocrine test report low IGF-I. Help me as I cannot go through this. I am thinking that if someone wanted to put me inpatient, I wouldnt; fight the 3 days. In the midst of all of this is female hormone ****.
