Avatar f tn Are your brother in law's seizures refractory? If they are, chances are his worsening memory issues are a result of his refractory epilepsy, although certain medications can make things worse. Epileptic acticity causes scarring of tissue; the hippocampus is unfotuantely very prone to scar as a result of seizures, and is often an onset sight for refractory complex partial seizures, if that is what your brother in law has.
Avatar f tn Certain types of epilepsies and seizures and sleep disturbances too cause short term memory loss along with tiredness or fatigue. Chronic infections too are known to precipitate memory loss. For this you can try yoga and meditation. Disorders of the hypothalamus, chronic fatigue syndrome and psychiatric disorders like depression too cause similar symptoms. To treat memory loss, you have to find the cause first.
Avatar f tn Hi, I am a 21 year old female who has been experiencing memory loss issues. I've always had not the best memory, but now in the past 4-5 months its gotten to a point where its negatively impacting my life on a daily basis; I can't remember things I've done with my friends, inside jokes, people I've met, what a movie I watched a month ago was about. Every day when someone says "Remember this happened..
Avatar m tn If all brain related causes (transient ischemic attack, disorders of hypothalamus, dementia and multiple sclerosis, head injury etc) are ruled out then Vit B12 deficiency, chronic fatigue syndrome, sleep disorders (by sleep studies), depression, use of certain drugs, and certain types of seizures (where memory loss is the predominant symptom) should be investigated for as the cause of memory loss.
Avatar f tn Seizures are also a consideration, especially if your symptoms appear to be occurring episodically. Seizures can present as confusion or memory loss, and do not necessarily need to have motor involvement. A normal EEG may not necessarily rule out this possibility, especially if you did not experience any symptoms during monitoring. Another group of problems that can cause thinking problems and fatigue are psychiatric.
Avatar m tn t always a reason people have seizures - does this mean it could be epilepsy? I now have short term memory loss and am in my final 30-day PIP plan for poor performance at my job due to my memory loss. I fear I'll lose any job I obtain because of my medical condition. Does the short term memory loss return after being on medication?
Avatar f tn Since taking this medication she seems to have memory loss under stressful situations, mainly exams and her grades have dropped by 30 percent. She was always a good student and studies a lot. Nothing else explains the change and her understanding during lesson time is great according to her teachers. Is there an alternative to tegratol which does not have these side effects, or do all anti epileptic drugs cause these problems?
577118 tn?1233250750 t recall exactly when, I started having seizures and was diagnosed with epilepsy. I have suffered from what I consider serious short-term memory loss. I have actually lost chunks of time. I cannot remember my senior year of high school, or major things I have done for friends, (apparently I gave a microwave to a good friend when he moved into his first apartment,) I don't remember the first date with my now boyfriend, and the list continues.

Avatar m tn My boss does not believe that my seizures have caused memory loss and I have a hard time of remembering something. I was dx with Pseudo Partial Complex Seizures (I think this is what the doctor told me.) She said she did not believe I would forget to renew my seizrue medicine - something that was so important. I told her I forgot to refill it and was late one day at work because I had to stop at the drug store to get my medicine.
Apart from sleep studies, EEG, you may need cognitive tests. Please consult a neuropsychiatrist.
Avatar f tn This can be associated with epileptic seizures. Hence, past history of seizures is important. As this has happened twice, we cannot say for sure. It can be due to incomplete sleep or prolonged sleep deprivation leading confusional state when you wake up. If the symptoms persist then you can undergo EEG monitoring esp. during sleep. This shouldn't be point of concern, relax. You can consult sleep specialist if the problem recurs. Take care and regards.
Avatar n tn It was my first one and I have no family history of seizures. I find that I am now dealing with memory loss. I am frustrated because my memory was pretty sharp prior to the seizure. My doctor never really said that I'd experience this and I was wondering if anyone else is dealing with this as well. I'm not on any type of meds. for seizures or anything else.
Avatar n tn In 2007 he had a hip replacement done and ended up having 3 operations within one week because of complications. My question is could the buildup of medications etc cause him to now have memory loss, language skills loss and tremors in his right hand. He walked in to the hospital on crutches and now is dependent on a wheelchair.
Avatar n tn I have had periods of migraine headaches followed by black outs, memory loss, and was hospitalized for seizures. I was placed on a seizure med which I had a terrible reaction to. My driver license has been revoked due to an accident - I drove off a bridge. My headaches have become unbearable and I am having problems finding information that links the TGA, seizures, and migraines.
Avatar n tn I thought they might be seizures, but I have no shaking, no pupil changes, no loss of though capability and I can write detailed things during the attacks. My sight itself (besides for seeing faster) isn't changed. And my balance is unaffected during. I have these attacks randomly, from once a week to once in 2 months. They last from 2 minutes to 20 minutes. Last week I had one and while it was going away, it hit again & worse.
Avatar m tn Hi, I hope you get more responses because I'd like to know the same thing. I really don't thing they cause Alzheimer's or Dementia but memory loss can be quite varied in degree. I've been on Xanax .5mg for anxiety, agitation, depression for about 2 years. About 6 months ago I've found that my memory is profound compounded by disorientation. Like you, I lose things break china and glassware regularly. Don't know the day of the week the date and even the time of day.
Avatar m tn side effects of Keppra seem to contradict what our goals for mom are....memory loss, mood changes, mental changes and vision changes among others. Is Keppra safe to use for this (it is not being used with any other seizure medication....just by itself)? We want to wean her off, but the doctor is wanting to keep her on it.
Avatar m tn I believe it is the seizures themselves that cause it. A neuropsche Dr from WVU told me that seizures cause memory loss.

Avatar n tn Saturday of this week, she began again with the same symptoms, intense eye pain followed by pain to entire left side, confusion, loss of memory and loss of motor and language skills. Again she was initially diagnosed with stroke based on the CT scan until the MRI again came back negative. She is still in the hospital. While in the hospital this time she has had 2 recurrences of the symptoms. In both cases I noticed that the symptoms would reduce as the pain reduced.
Avatar m tn A good friend of mine was in a bad car accident and was taken to the hospital about a year and a half ago. He had many broken bones, a collapsed lung, and a traumatic brain injury. Previous to the accident he was a daily pot smoker. He's doing really good now and has had no problems with breathing, although he does have some trouble with his short term memory from time to time. This may be due to the past weed smoking, but he is leaning toward smoking weed again.
5857909 tn?1375628784 Hi, Is it possible to start having epileptic seizures at 40 years without having suffered them in the past? I have had 4 episodes of severe dizziness, memory loss and confusion in a year, in the last episode I was accompanied by people who saw that I had seizures. I am waiting for a neurologist to see me and for me to do a study but I am quite confused about what can happen to me. Any advice?
