marinol

Avatar m tn A few chronic pain patients have been prescribed Marinol for pain and attest that it is very effective for pain. I have heard it is very psychoactive and the prescription has strict instructions to NOT DRIVE. LOL, unlike opioids as once you are tolerant you can drive just as well as anyone else not on opioid therapy.
Avatar m tn It would be great if i didnt have to use marijuana and break the law, and could legaly use marinol and feel normal.
Avatar m tn I have been treated for Chronic pain post Cancers and therapies, and I am very tolerant to any Opiates. I would like to try using Marinol (synthetic THC) for pain; it helped my pain as well as my nausea when I went through my Stem-cell Transplant. I am in Athens, GA; does anyone know of a doctor willing to prescribe this medicine for pain (when you have not been diagnosed with a cancer...yet?
Avatar m tn I have pain in both of my knees and have had a cortazone shot in my arm for pain over the last year. I continue to here that Marinol can relief pain in that manner. I do not want to smoke marijuana. I read comments from others in Las Vegas where I live they found doctors who precribe Marinol. Can you provide me the name or locations of these doctors. I tried to use my main doctor and a urologist but no luck for they are not comforable in precribing it.
Avatar m tn 5 mg (lowest-dose) marinol per day to stay out of pain. Medicare and Humana will not cover marinol for pain or BP since manufacturers have not submitted these applications to the FDA. In addition, dosage and timing are big problems... Doctors do not understand that (1) the only available form - refrigerated gel tabs - do not take effect until 2.5 hours and (2) the effects only last for another 3 hours.
Avatar f tn They are hard to find but typically the doctor you would visit to get your MMJ license renewed would prescribe the opioids or refer you to another doctor that is MMJ Friendly. Another option is for you to ask the doctor for a prescription for Marinol...it is synthetic THC. I should mention that when my mother was dying from cancer, she said that the Marinol wasn't helping her eat, it was only the real marijuana that helped but things may be different for you. Good luck.
338489 tn?1215558109 I have a close friend who is HIV+ and I thought he had tried something like this, but from what have I read, it has been approved in Canada for MS symptoms only. I will ask him and let you know if I learn anything about it.
11505778 tn?1423650650 It started from my knee down for 2 weeks and then moved up into my thigh. I still have the leg pain and cramping in my thigh for over 5 weeks now. The neurologist really didn't say anything about the migraines other than we will keep an eye on it. He got me on 600mg of Gabapentin to try and limit them. I have had the migraines with auras since 1992. I stopped having them around 2000. They came back in 2006 or 07 and I average around 1 every week or so.
Avatar f tn Marinol is THC or "Medical" Marijuana. People with ADHD who use it are self medicating and (possibly) avoiding the issue of treating the real problem. I am sure that it makes them feel better. And there are probably "shops" out there that will "prescribe" it for you. As far as I know, no legit psychologist or psychiatrist would do so.
13008581 tn?1432432810 I don't have consistent leg pain, but I did have constant foot pain. They felt like something very heavy had just been dropped on them. Meds have helped completely relieve the pain.
Avatar f tn Hi there, I have IBS, I also have cardiomyopathy and pulmonary hypertension. I get severe pain in my abdomen. It is beyond any other pain besides the worst migraine I've ever had. The pain is so bad I usually end up pouring sweat and putting as much pressure on my gut as possible until it passes. I use guided meditation sometimes and that helps a lot. My Dr. has run through all of the standard medications, and many are not available to me because of the cardiac problems.
560501 tn?1383612740 The big plus about it is that it reduces the amount of narcotics that I have to use to help reduce the pain from MS and degenerative disk disease. The drawback to marijuana use, at least for me, is that I do not like the so-called euphoria. Go figure, I would be one of the weird ones. LOL I really need to learn more about Sativex, however. There is a drug on the market used for the severe nausea associated with many durg treatments. It's called Marinol (sp?

Avatar m tn d me told me at my last appointment in June that she was transferring to the Cleveland Clinic for a few years and plans on returning the MS clinic in Rochester (If she does plan on returning, I can't wait – she is a “top-notch neurologist, to say the least.) Anyway, because it was an expedited appointment, I ended up seeing the nurse practitioner. As it turned out, things worked out very well. She has been NP at the MS clinic in Rochester for 15 years.

163305 tn?1333668571 There's a form of marijuana in pill form... it's called MARINOL (Dronabinol). I was put on it when I lost 40lbs as a side-effect of taking another medication. The side-effect of MARINOL, is that it gives you the munchies and MAKES you want to eat. Gained the weight back slowly, and stopped taking it. Makes me wonder why they went all-out, and went the actual marijuana route, instead of trying MARINOL first.

There's been discussions about RA, but after yesterday I believe it was ruled out. What exactly is your neuro waiting for? If you don't like him or her you can always get a second opinion. I saw four before I settled on one. Not because of a non dx, but because of lack of treatment. Good luck on your journey and please keep me posted.
