Macrobid urinary tract infection

Common Questions and Answers about Macrobid urinary tract infection

macrobid

493068 tn?1224765315 The condition occurs when the normally clean lower urinary tract is infected by bacteria and becomes inflamed. Urinary tract infections are very common. Most of the time, symptoms of a urinary tract infection disappear within 24 - 48 hours after treatment begins. However, if the condition occurs more than twice in 6 months, lasts longer than 2 weeks, or does not respond to usual treatment, it is considered chronic. The elderly are at increased risk for such infections.
Avatar m tn My girlfriends doctor suggested that she take Macrobid in order to clear up her urinary tract infection. If by some CRAZY chance she did receive an std that causes urinary tracts infection, would macrobid clear that up as well?? I know I am being ridiculous right now but just thought I would ask. This will be my last thread bc I know this is a bit eccentric. Thanks so much for your help. God Bless!
Avatar f tn So I've had THE SAME urinary tract/kidney infection since December/January of this year. I have received antibiotic shots and taken macrobid off and on since, but it has not gone away. I am now on a different antibiotic (4x a day), but do not feel any better. This isn't the first time this has happened. A few years ago I had the same problem. I tried every antibiotic (cipro, zithromax, amoxicillin, etc.) and macrobid was the only one that killed it.
Avatar f tn Talk to your doctor about this immediately. My understanding is Macrobid has been known to cause problems when taken during late pregnancy: "If you get recurrent urinary tract infections or if the infection gets into your kidneys, your caregiver may recommend taking nitrofurantoin (trade name Macrodantin or Macrobid) for the rest of your pregnancy to prevent another infection.
Avatar m tn I would ask the doctor for testing for autoimmune problems and things like CMV, etc.. If your culture comes back negative for a urinary tract infection and your white blood cells aren't showing an infection, you need to be cautious about taking antibiotics, as your body can build resistance to them.
Avatar f tn Hi! Oh sweetie, that's a classic sign of a urinary tract infection! So uncomfortable. I would go ahead and call your doctor as you should be beginning to feel better. They can also give you some tablets that help with that pain but I'd get checked again if you still are having painful urination after three or four days on antibiotics. While you have to take the full course of pills you normally feel better within a day or two. https://www.webmd.
405998 tn?1222396217 Your doctors may just want to directly visualize these structures to rule out any source of the persistent hematuria( blood in urine) considering that there is currently no infection and your scans did not show any structural abnormalities and urinary tract stones. Usually cystoscopy is requested when urinary tract infections have been ruled out through urinalysis and urine culture and when urinary tract stones have been excluded based on imaging modalities.
Avatar f tn t go away without it. Macrobid is safe during pregnancy. Having an untreated infection to on is dangerous for you and your baby. It can cause you to have a kidney infection and go septic (which is when the infection gets so bad it goes into your blood stream). Take the meds and you'll be fine!
Avatar n tn Hi, Nitrofurantoin is the generic name of Macrobid and is used to treat urinary tract infections. It is not expected to be harmful to an unborn baby, unless it is used during the last 2 to 4 weeks of pregnancy. You can first take the antibiotics until the prescribed period then take the pregnancy test after. It is important to finish the course of antibiotics even if symptoms improve before the infection is completely cleared. Take care and keep us posted.
Avatar m tn Two months ago I was diagnosed with a urinary tract infection after going to the doctor for bladder pain when urinating. I was prescribed macrobid which cleared up the symptoms within a week. Since then I have been ejaculating less than half the amount I usually do, even if I abstain for 3 or 4 days. Additionally, my semen appears to be a lot more clumpy. It doesn't seem/feel like everything is *coming* out. What could have caused this change? What can I do to fix it?
Avatar f tn Ok I have the same problem. I was told in the end of Sept that I had a urinary tract infection. I was given a three day course of antibiotics which didn't work, then I had a week long course of macrobid which didn't work. The last was Cypro something and that didn't work. It doesn't hurt when I pee but I almost always have this feeling like I need to go. I go every hour sometims twice and hour and I get up at least twice at night.
Avatar m tn my mom is being treated for urinary tract infection with septra ds.she has been taking septra for 5 days now.as well she is suppose to go in for colonscopy on april 6 for rectal prolapse .the medication she was taking before septra was macrobid.when she was on the macrobid it was not helping.she is now getting greylike clay color feces .i am just very concerned about all that is happening please i need some advice.
Avatar n tn The infection can move up to your kidneys quite quickly. Urinary tract infection is not serious in females, but in males it is.
Avatar f tn Unfortunately, some people are just prone to getting urinary tract infections. Have you spoken to your doctor about what you can do to help prevent them. Peeing after sex and cranberry juice / supplements are good preventative measures.. but they don't seem to be doing the trick for you. It sounds like you notice a pattern of when they pop up, so for your honeymoon, maybe you can make sure you don't have sex a day or two beforehand and keep the vaginal sex to one time that night.
Avatar f tn Has anyone got a urinary tract infection during pregnancy? Was it uncomfortable and a little painful at times? once treated did the uncomfortablness go away? I think I have one I have a drs appt in 4 days is it safe to wait until then?
4251679 tn?1370305531 UTIs are exactly what their name describes. and infection in your urinary tract. its not in your vagina, however, ive always been told not to have sex while you have one because sex could be the cause of it. and its best to make sure its all better before introducing even more bacteria. Ive never heard of it being contagious, and dont think that it is, but ask your doctor. and ive also never had a cream to use, so im not sure what thats for.
Avatar n tn You may not even have to bring your dog in for an exam if the urine is positive for a simple urinary tract infection (an infection without crystals). The vet can simply give appropriate antibiotics. If your dog has crystals in his urine, the crystals would need to be identified and treatment instituted. Crystals can be dangerous in male dogs because if they become large enough they can become lodged in the urethra and cause blockage (even in dogs, though more common in male cats).
Avatar f tn Im 90% sure that I have a urinary tract infection but I have additional symptoms that I dont usually have. My partner and I had sex several nights ago and I developed the usual symptoms: painful urination general discomfort frequent urination urine is cloudy and pink What is unusual is that I have clumps of something when I pee. They are pinkish is this a possible symptom that will pass just like the others?
Avatar f tn I’m 20 years old. I have a urinary tract infection(coliform). A doctor prescribed Amoxicillin 625mg + Tamsulosin medicine for 10 days to me. I have a side effect after taking Tamsulosin (Retrograde ejaculation) or any other ejaculation problem. Is this normal or should I stop using Tamsulosin? Or will it (Retrograde ejaculation ) recover after stop using ten days? Should I keep getting Tamsulosin for 10 days or stop?
Avatar f tn How do you tell the difference between a urinary tract infection and yeast infectiy?
Avatar f tn Kidney stones may be asymptomatic depending on their size and the presence of underlying disease conditions like structural anomalies involving the urinary tract. They may present as a dull vague pain over the flank. They may present as a benign back pain. In some patients, the back may be slightly tender when the physician gently hits the area with closed fists. The severe pain comes when the stone dislodges and travels along the ureters. The ureteral spasms may be causing these.
