Macrobid and probiotics

Common Questions and Answers about Macrobid and probiotics

macrobid

I was put on macrobid after sex, didnt work, macrobid everyday, didnt work! and then I started taking cipro and that really worked. But now I am 8 wks pregnant and have had what I thought was a UTI for 2 goin on 3 wks now!! I am going crazy!! I have taken every antibiotic known to man that is safe for a pregnant lady and no relief. i know that i was diagnosed w/ cytolytic vaginosis awhile back so I read up on it, but w/ being prgenant I dont know if it is the right diagnosis.
I was given a three day course of antibiotics which didn't work, then I had a week long course of macrobid which didn't work. The last was Cypro something and that didn't work. It doesn't hurt when I pee but I almost always have this feeling like I need to go. I go every hour sometims twice and hour and I get up at least twice at night. I have some pain in the right side that comes and goes. I have been to the health food store and tried lots of different things.
I had a UTI for a few weeks and I've been on macrobid, then they switched me to cipro after 3 days of that. I have three days of pills left (of ten) and I've been having a hell of a time with it. I had my gallbladder removed years ago, but I'm having pain where it used to be if I bend over or move the wrong way. Could this just be the cipro, or my kidneys being ornery? Thanks!
But one of the best prescriptions to be given is Macrobid, ask for that if you are not getting it.
Not having insurance at the time, I tried unsweetened cran, kefir, probiotics, blueberries, lots of water but the symptoms remained. By day 4 I went to the clinic and the nurse and doc were divided on whether or not it was a UTI based on the dip stick, so they gave me a 4 day course of general abx and tested for chlamydia and gonorrhea. No relief of symptoms, std's were negative. Went back to clinic and they tested again, this time the dipstick showed no bacteria.
I have tried cranberry juice, cranberry supplements, probiotics etc. My last three urinalyses have been clear. I've graduated college and am now without health insurance. My urologist ordered me to have an ultrasound for ovarian cysts, but that came back normal. My urine showed normal glucose levels so no diabetes, and he doesn't think that I have interstitial cystitis.
I'm wondering if it could be a side effect from the preventive antibiotic I have been on for urinary Tracy infections...I'm ver prone to them and despite all natural remedies (cranberry, d mannose, probiotics) I still get them often. The urologist put me on macrobid taken after intercourse...I've been on it for a year, it works great. Before that though I was take Cipro nonstop for UTIs. I definitely believe anxiety plays into this but I can't say I'm convinced its the only factor.
I am not a doctor but i know antibiotics kill all the good and bad bacteria in your body and who knows what else it distroys, probably a long food chain line in that too. but if i use some iniatitave with this i think if i go and buy some probiotics and take them a long with vitamine B and some calcium (known to have a calming effect on the nervous system) i should be right in a few weeks.
Also -- You might talk to your doc or the doc's nurse or a nutritionist about the probiotics and the effect they have on you. My Lyme doc insisted that patients take Florastor, a probiotic that is yeast-based, unlike acidophilus (which is bacteria-based). I had real problems with Florastor, but once those were taken care of and I didn't take it anymore, I got much better.
A renal ultrasound and VCUG were perfomed about two year ago. They demonstrated no problem. Since then she has been affected by E-coli, proteus mellibilis, klebsiella among others. Last year she received prophylaxis (Bactrim) to control the infections. She was fine for six months while she was under treatment until Klebsiella gave her a new UTI while under prophylaxis. She was given Augmentin. However, she has been infected two more times for the last three months with the same bacteria.

Sometimes they give me Macrobid/Nitrofurantin and it will go away but come back. This past round they prescribed Levaquin and it's pretty good. The discharge is down and the pain and inflamation are definately clearing up. I'm still trying to find out if this is related to an abundance of sexual activity or if another STD makes it become more active. thanks.
in a different way than the radioligst do. He is a pelvic pain specialist and inserted sodium pottasium into the bladder and told my daug if it brings on the same type of pain pressure than thats how they diagnosos I.C. and said she had it.Her symptoms are a feeling like she has to urinate and even when she does she still feels like she has a full bladder. the pressure from not being able to relieave hurts. She is on pain med's to help until we can find a answer but if it is I.C.
I was trying to write it off as the toilet paper, etc! But then I became more and more worried, and began to research it and that's when I came across this website. After reading everything I decided to go see my OBGYN. He of course tested me for Herpes, and even though I had read everything that you have all been through, and knowing that none of your tests had come back positive, I was still nervous. He also tested me for a yeast infection.
Hello there, I was talking to a dear friend of mine today and her condition sound identical to your case. Doctors keep telling her that it's "just a cut". Well we believe it's more than just that. Problem is, we can't get a diagnosis. I was just wondering if you figured out what it is. If so please let me know. Maybe I can put an end to her anxiety. Best of luck to you and thanks for your timr. I will be waiting to hear from you!
Yeah. Well that's what I hope-related to some kind of yeast thing, and not HPV-which would mean I have to wait until it runs it's course with me. My doctor actually told me to stick with the gold bond if it works, but that's treating the symptoms...sigh. I just had a run of anti biotics after a surgery, wouldn't that take care of any kind of BI/yeast/uti??
I got my IUD out on Aug 5th and am ttc. I have had lots of spotting and maybe a period but nothing regular. I called my doc and they said that it takes 3 months before the hormones are out of your system. The mirena website makes it sound as though you can get pregnant anytime after removal. Any advice/stories would be appreciated. Thanks.
