Losing zoloft weight gain

Common Questions and Answers about Losing zoloft weight gain

zoloft

Avatar f tn t seem to find an answer as to whether it is the medicine that makes you gain weight, or mentally feeling better that makes you eat more and you gain weight. Can you address this please? Thank you!
Avatar f tn I used to take Zoloft many years ago. I took it for 4 full years at 150Mgs a day and it had absolutly no effect on my weight. Paxil on the other hand is one SSRI that seems to add pounds. Tri-cyclics and Tetra-cyclics absolutly do cause massive weight gain with no doubt. Meds like Prozac, Effexor, Welbutrin and Cymbalta never had any impact on my weight either. I do know that Paxil, Nortriptilyne, and Remeron are very much associated with massive weight gain in most people.
Avatar m tn Yes it is possible , typically people usually lose weight. I have not heard of weight gain but its possible. Just get plenty of exercise and eat clean. Zoloft is generlaly not a drug that will make it hard to lose weight. My guess would be the drug itself has little to do with the weight gain, maybe you are eating more as a result of feeling better. Best thing is to ask your doctor about it. I have been on it before and it actually killed my appetite.
324184 tn?1308076203 I totally agree with what your saying about weight gain, I do sometimes think that people who gain weight use medication as an excuse [I hope I didnt strick a nerve with anyone by saying that] But then again.... of course, everyone is different, honestly I feel like I have less of an appetite since I've been on it and I get full a lot faster, so we will see.
Avatar n tn I started taking Zoloft many years ago when I weighed about 105 lbs. I started to gain weight immediately and gained 30 lbs. When my neurologist changed my Zoloft to Effexor because of my excessive sleepiness I lost back down to my 105 lbs within 6 months. I have to note that I was also prescribed around the same time Topamax to prevent migraines. This medication is known to help people lose weight and is actually prescribed as such in some countries.
Avatar n tn I went from 127 to 123 after taking Zoloft. Some people gain weight, some lose weight, and others dont experience a change in weight at all. Are you getting plenty to drink? Losing 7 Ibs over about a week is more likely water loss than fat/muscle loss.
Avatar f tn I was on it years ago, the only antidepressant that gave me no weight gain and minimal side effects. I was taken off them suddenly and they were discontinued in this country. Doc never told me why or anything, i've since discovered it was because people were dying of liver failure or damage and the company no longer makes it but that there is still a generic available. Was wondering if anyone still takes it with no problems.
Avatar f tn I would have to agree that medications can and will affect us differently. There are definitely pros and cons to taking meds, but other than the weight gain, did Zoloft work well for you? As Paxiled said, it can be really hard to find the right med. Also, are you currently in counseling for your anxiety?
1348686 tn?1310654243 I have tried hard but I think the Zoloft I am on now is causing me to not gain weight. Also, I still have anxiety while I am sleeping cause I will wake up in panic or having anxiety night sweats. Just can't turn my brain off. I know how you are feeling.
Avatar f tn How long did it take you to lose the weight you gained? Was it a matter of time? I have never had a problem losing weight until now and I am terrified that it will never come off. What if the meds changed me for good?! Hope to hear from you soon!
Avatar n tn First I took Lexapro then Cymbalta and now Zoloft. My doctor keeps changing my meds because of the weight gain and every change only makes it worse. This latest change has caused me to gain about a pound a day. Since Thursday I have gained three more pounds and have been eating next to nothing. I finally convinced my doctor that I am not pigging out all day and she ha ordered a thyroid test. I'm so scared that I'm going to die from this, it's uncontrollable.
1140989 tn?1429773263 Taking laxatives won't make you lose real weight. What I mean by that is that you may feel like you are losing some weight but it's only water weight. You will not lose fat by taking laxatives. They are dangerous too. You can become dehydrated and worse, your bowels can become dependent on laxatives, meaning you won't be able to go to the bathroom without laxatives.
Avatar f tn A few pounds and then it stops? Or do you continue to gain more weight? I have a couple thoughts on weight gain. If you are still depressed you might be stress eating or eating to relieve some of your symptoms. Weight gain or loss is a common symptom of depression. Taking more medicine could actually help you out. I typically lose my appetite when I get depressed. There's always a correction period when I start to feel better and get my appetite back.
459279 tn?1206997145 I was on Zoloft 50 mg for 6 months, blood pressure was up and still was having anxiety and trouble sleeping, so my Dr increased the Zoloft to(100mg daily) and recently added buspar, 3x daily, I do feel better except my weight is going up even with exercise which is causing allot of new stress. Would you agree the meds are increasing my weight? I'm a while make 46, 5'11 199 lbs.
1033596 tn?1252519593 Now I want to lose this weight and more through diet and exercise. Other blogs state that losing weight while on these types of medications is VERY difficult. I have found this to be true. Getting started is hard because my desire for food has increased--particularly with carbohydrate rich foods. Right now I am exercising vigorously once a day, and I have cut back on my alcohol consumption by a lot. Still--I battle with snacking. Any suggestions?
Avatar n tn Keep in mind you could gain weight on Zoloft or any ssri, and your weight gain on Paxil has been minimal -- I gained 50 pounds over several years on it. And be careful going off it, it can be difficult. Do it slowly and carefully.
Avatar f tn Im going to be 27 weeks . My doctor said some people loose weight some stay the same some gain as long as babys developing its ok . Its an adjustment to your body.
245504 tn?1224099316 Could this be from the Zoloft? I know alot of people have gained weight but I thought it was with long term use. Also I only take 12.5 mg a day. Please give ur feedback?
1354136 tn?1331875317 Correction: Zoloft is a SSRI with no significant weight gains observed, which is rare with SSRIs.
Avatar f tn Its normal not to gain any weight in the first 20 weeks. As long as your getting fluids down and trying to eat youll be fine. I was the same way. Your doctor would let you know if you need to worry.
Avatar f tn I am prone to weight gain with antidepressants and have recently had pulse problems with them. What ones are less likely to cause weight gain and pulse side effects?
Avatar f tn Well, it is hard to say definitively. Antidepressants can cause weight gain including Zoloft. AND, we also can gain weight as time goes on, our own eating habits, etc. Have you tried to lose the weight? I would perhaps cut down on the wine drinking, evaluate your diet, and add in more exercise (and a good multi vitamin) and see if that has any effect. And remember, any time we want to lose weight, it's best to go slow. And it will feel REALLY slow at first.
