Losartan and cough

Common Questions and Answers about Losartan and cough

cozaar

Avatar n tn Side effects reported included diarrhea, muscle cramps, dizziness, insomnia, and nasal congestion. Losartan also may cause a persistent cough, increase serum potassium, impotence, and angioedema. Losartan may reduce kidney function in some patients and should not be used by patients who have bilateral renal artery stenosis (narrowing of both arteries going to the kidneys). Rare cases of rhabdomyolysis (muscle breakdown) have been reported.
Avatar f tn I am not really familiar with losartan, but if it falls in the family of blood presure medications known as beta blockers it certainly can be the cause of your cough. Ace inhibitors have a much lower risk of causing the cough, and most people who have problems with beta blockers do well on them. I hope that helps you a little. God bless.
Avatar f tn t had any other problems with Lisinopril besides the cough and I am scared to change meds and take the chance of worse side effects. I am just wondering if anybody has any thoughts on Lisinopril vs Losartan to help me decide if I should change meds. Thanks!!!
Avatar f tn Ugh, I hate a lingering cough. Couple of things come to mind. First, coughs can last a long time. Once the airway and bronchial tubes get irritated, they take a while to get better. So the least little thing will cause a coughing jag (exertion, changing position to lay down, etc.). It can happen that it takes 2 months to get over a cough because of this. But there are other things to consider. You can get a type of asthma related to having been sick and this airway irritation.
Avatar m tn ve only been on it a week and I experience the muscle aches and bilateral flank pain as well. In addition, insomnia!
Avatar f tn I am considering shifting to other antihypertensive medicines to rule out losartan as the cause of my cough or at least prevent further aggravation. I failed to inform my doctor regarding this medication coz I just came across about persistent cough as its side effect. I am not experiencing other tb symptoms, no sputum to collect, no night sweats or fever. My doctor also prescribed me medications for GERD (nexium 20) for asthma, Singulair 10 (Montelukast) and Seretide inhaler.
Avatar m tn Hi, sorry. Just seeing this. I take losartan and honestly, my bp dropped quickly (thankfully, it was worryingly high). I have read though that amlodipine can take a couple of weeks to work. The thing that concerns me is that the literature says 'starts to work the first day you take it but up to two weeks for the FULL effect". Meaning, your bp rose which would worry me. Are you renal impaired? https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.

Avatar m tn They initially wanted to put me on Lisinopril, but I was on that previously and I had a terrible, nagging cough the entire time. I've read that ACE Inhibitors are preferable to ARBs, though, when it comes to CHF. Should I try another ACE, or would all of them be likely to cause a cough since the Lisinopril did? Or is the Cozaar good enough? (Some places even suggest taking an ACE along with an ARB...is that a good idea?) Blood Thinners: Should I be taking one?
Avatar f tn s, kidney scans and urine samples, so I was put on 50 mg of Losartan- atid a day, got a machine for the upper arm and everything has been normal since then (I measure everyday). My mother has had hypertension for about 10 years now, but her measurements weren't as high and she gets it from being obese.
Avatar f tn Hallo there -anyone and everyone. Is there any reasons to prefer or take losartan above olmesartan or the olmesartan above losartan. Person taking these is african, 57 years, female and oh, my mother.
Avatar m tn I have experienced excessive anxiety, agitation and sound sensitivity when (accidentally) double dosing Losartan. Long story, but I (for possibly weeks) was taking 200mg per day instead of my prescribed 100mg per day. ---I basically went NUTS!! I am doing better at my prescribed dose but am getting more and more suspicious of all meds in general. For instance-time released bupropion ruined my life for a while but changing to immediate release bupropion did not have the negative side-effects.
Avatar m tn I went back to Walgreens and asked the pharmacist if there was any chance that the Apotex was inferior/impotent to the Cozaar for some reason. She assured me that could not be the case and that there could be no difference. Losartan is Losartan is Losartan. As an experiment(with GP consensus), I doubled my dose of Apotex Losartan from 50 to 100 mg a day for one week. No change in BP. I am baffled. GP does not have a clue either. I want to try going back to Cozaar. Sound reasonable?
Avatar m tn Hi I'm 22 yrs old, active about 225lbs 6'3 and I was wondering I've had high Bp ranging from upper 130's to 140's or sometimes 150's systolic my diastolic ranges from 70's to 85...I was wondering if heart ratehas anything to do with my high Bp..my rest hr is around 60's or 50's...does this have anything to do with higher blood pressure? Am I at risk more with a lower heart rate I'm on Bp meds losartan 50 mg...
Avatar m tn I agree with you, I was put on losartan and didn't have high blood pressure and felt faint, tired, dizzy. my head went numb in the back and I started to feel faint on 25-50mg a day. maybe it's better to not take it. what happens in hypotension is that the oxygen flow to the heart and brain is actually reduced so you become faint which is terrible because then your cells start to die.
1008841 tn?1293598960 There was a recent thread on this forum regarding fibrosis regression and blood pressure drugs (specifically Cozaar, Losartan, etc. the ARB class). If you look back over the past month this thread should be available. There are a variety of related comments in the thread. I got on Cozaar for my tx induced high BP specifically for this reason! I had read studies about Cozaar being beneficial for ED, Fibrosis, and depression...
Avatar m tn I have been on Losartan for approximately eight months come here recently I have found it very difficult to swallow my food and seems like he gets caught in my esophagus, yesterday at two different Meals I began to choke on my food I had to drink several glasses of water in order to get my food to go down with no issues. Could this be a side effect of Losartan?
Avatar m tn Do some Google research about losartan and aorta and talk to your doctor. Make sure your doctor is knowledgeable and will listen to you.
Avatar n tn I was prescribed Celexa during tx for HCV, and my liver was in pretty rough shape. I had no problems with it. The other drugs I am not familiar with, so I can't shed any light there - just a layperson's experience with the Celexa.
16467414 tn?1448304929 I am trying to come off Atenolol after 7 years and a few weeks ago a doctor put me on Losartan Potassium and did not tell me that though I asked if I should avoid anything. I found out what Hyperkalemia does to you the hard way. It can kill you if levels are very high, almost did me in! Symptoms of it are muscle fatigue, weakness, paralysis, abnormal heart rhythms, and nausea. It felt like someone poured hot lead in my body.
Avatar m tn hi, a couple of months back my physical came back and everything was good except AST was 55 and ALT was 68. google says normal is 48 for AST and 55 for ALT, although my doctor's *normal* requirements were slightly lower. just looking at my numbers they don't look elevated much at all, but i don't really know if any elevation above normal is cause for concern. i'm in good shape and very active, but i do have a couple of things that may contribute to this. 1.
Avatar n tn I would be inclined to discontinue you Losartan and have a 24 blood pressure monitoring done in a few weeks time. This will give you the true picture. In any case cut back with your BP until you see your doctor again.
Avatar m tn Cozaar or losartan is ARB, that's right, it is more preferred than ACE inhibitors since it does not cause side effect particularly cough. I am taking cozaar too ;D another is maybe you become tachycardic because as we urinate (which is because sodium excretion is promoted by cozaar), blood volume decreases, as a result , increase in HR occur to compensate in low blood volume by trying to pump more blood. that's the reason i think behind the tachycardia thing.
Avatar m tn My 93 y/o Mom just had a stress test and echo. They show a 52% LVEF but a small infarct area at the bottom of the heart. She has no obvious symptoms but her cardiologist has put her on a new regimen of 4 meds (statin, Plavix, losartan, metoprolol)... which she finds terribly overwhelming. My question is ... why both losartan (an Angiotensin II) and metoprolol (a beta blocker)? Don't they both do the same thing by lowering blood pressure and opening up the coronary arteries?
Tbd I am on 20mg of Losartan and diagnosed with pre-metabolic syndrome. Anyone else in a similar shape and has some success tips for be healthy besides electronic coaching classes?
Avatar f tn Doctor took me off ALL BP meds and my nose bled uncontrollably and I wound up in the hospital and was given clonidine as my pressure reached 100/97. Now I'm on 100 mg of losartan, no HCTZ, only a cough but....my pressure is not controlled and goes up as the day progresses. Any suggestions for something that works without these awful side effects?
