Hydrochlorothiazide and losartan

Common Questions and Answers about Hydrochlorothiazide and losartan

Avatar n tn OK, I just looked it up. Losartan alone, also known as Cozaar does not have a diuretic. But Losartan with HCTZ is also known as Hyzaar. Don't assume yours has the diuretic in it. Ask the pharmacist.
Avatar m tn The doctor gave Losartan Potassium and Hydrochlorothiazide Tablets. The blood pressure is then controlled to 107~135 mmHg(high pressure) / 65~80 mmHg(low pressure). In 2015: My mother suddenly felt dizzy and she was found that her blood pressure jumped to 80~90 mmHg(high pressure) / 50 mmHg(low pressure). Then the doctor asked her to stop taking any blood pressure control medicine. Her heart is examined OK. What is the reason that blood pressure jumps from high to low?
Avatar m tn It is essentially the same as Hyzaar which contains a combination of hydrochlorothiazide and losartan. Hydrochlorothiazide is a thiazide diuretic (water pill) that helps prevent your body from absorbing too much salt, which can cause fluid retention. Losartan is also in a group of drugs called angiotensin II receptor antagonists. Losartan keeps blood vessels from narrowing, which lowers blood pressure and improves blood flow which is exactly how Diovan works.
Avatar n tn I was diagnosed with asthma a couple years ago and it seems as if the beta blocker is causing shortness of breath and a feeling that seems similar to how I feel after exercising, a sort of chest tightness I would say. Is this common for beta blockers to do to people with asthma? I am afraid that the dose will be increased as my blood pressure is still high (last two readings were 132/100 and 140/92). I am going to talk to my PCP tomorrow about it as well.
Avatar f tn I think you're wrong - I never has asthma in my life, I don't smoke and I'm not overweight. I started taking Losartan and within 2 months I had exercised-induced asthma.. do a web search.. I found other people in the same situation who developed the exact same symptoms when they started taking Losartan.
Avatar m tn t have problems with heart rate (usually between 70 and 80 during the day and around 60 in the morning) before taking beta blocker I usually had quite high HR (approximately 90) I'm writing all this because it seems that I started to suffer from "Erectile Dysfunction"or at least everything seems to be pretty much different than before. Behavior has been changing during period of taking drug.
Avatar m tn Increased heart rate, restlessness etc can be due to Hyzaar. Yes, there are many other drugs besides hydrochlorothiazide and losartan (Hyzaar) which can be taken for high blood pressure. Please ask your doctor to change Hyzaar, maybe increase the frequency or dose of Atenelol as it was suiting you. However, please do not make any changes yourself. Buy a home recording BP instrument and keep a check on your daily blood pressure in the morning and evening. Take care!
Avatar f tn Primary care manager (LPN) refused new tests and changed synthyroid dose based on the latest TSH levels. Have continued old meds and am seeing a real doctor who knows about the thyroid and the impact Vitamin D, etc have on it next week. I believe that primary care manager thinks I am hyper now because of side effects from hydrochlorothiazide (am deathly allergic to sulfa drugs and this is a sulfa drug - unbeknownst to me until today).

Avatar m tn This has lead me to start eating a heavily non-protein rich vegetable and fruit based diet, and has helped my side effects and blood pressure significantly, but this means I have to avoid almost all “normal” food. Does anybody have any clue what might be wrong? I have asked my kidney doctor, but he doesn’t even make an attempt at explaining to me what might be the problem. I have listed a bunch of medical information and history below in case it is helpful. Any ideas at all are appreciated.
Avatar n tn Losartan also may cause a persistent cough, increase serum potassium, impotence, and angioedema. Losartan may reduce kidney function in some patients and should not be used by patients who have bilateral renal artery stenosis (narrowing of both arteries going to the kidneys). Rare cases of rhabdomyolysis (muscle breakdown) have been reported.
Avatar m tn s not the worst, I have been dealing with severe heart palpitations and heart flutters in the last year, and about 3 months ago I suddenly developed shortness of breath that has stuck with me to this day. I was exercising pretty regularly up until this shortness of breath started and had actually managed to lose some weight, however since the shortness of breath started it has become nearly impossible, although I still manage to ride my bike even with the shortness of breath.
Avatar f tn After realizing what I was experiencing was HBP symptoms (stabbing pain between shoulder blades, migraines), I went to a doc and was put on Losartan. Exactly 7 days later, I started experiencing BP spikes with what I can only explain as 'adrenaline dumps' - like extreme anxiety, although it has nothing to do with anxiety. I've lived with severe anxiety before, and I had some modicum of control over it.
Avatar f tn s, kidney scans and urine samples, so I was put on 50 mg of Losartan- atid a day, got a machine for the upper arm and everything has been normal since then (I measure everyday). My mother has had hypertension for about 10 years now, but her measurements weren't as high and she gets it from being obese.
Avatar f tn Hallo there -anyone and everyone. Is there any reasons to prefer or take losartan above olmesartan or the olmesartan above losartan. Person taking these is african, 57 years, female and oh, my mother.
Avatar m tn I have experienced excessive anxiety, agitation and sound sensitivity when (accidentally) double dosing Losartan. Long story, but I (for possibly weeks) was taking 200mg per day instead of my prescribed 100mg per day. ---I basically went NUTS!! I am doing better at my prescribed dose but am getting more and more suspicious of all meds in general. For instance-time released bupropion ruined my life for a while but changing to immediate release bupropion did not have the negative side-effects.
1398693 tn?1343684738 Thank you so much for the information I knew that there are medications that didn't deplete potassium but I couldn't find which ones. right now I'm taking hydrochlorothiazide and Lisinopril and when I started to take the hydrochlorothiazide I kept ending up in the hospital because my potassium level kept dropping mainly because I have had some problems with diarrhea so no matter how much potassium rich foods I hate I couldn't keep my potassium level any higher than 3.
Avatar m tn I went back to Walgreens and asked the pharmacist if there was any chance that the Apotex was inferior/impotent to the Cozaar for some reason. She assured me that could not be the case and that there could be no difference. Losartan is Losartan is Losartan. As an experiment(with GP consensus), I doubled my dose of Apotex Losartan from 50 to 100 mg a day for one week. No change in BP. I am baffled. GP does not have a clue either. I want to try going back to Cozaar. Sound reasonable?
Avatar m tn Hi I'm 22 yrs old, active about 225lbs 6'3 and I was wondering I've had high Bp ranging from upper 130's to 140's or sometimes 150's systolic my diastolic ranges from 70's to 85...I was wondering if heart ratehas anything to do with my high Bp..my rest hr is around 60's or 50's...does this have anything to do with higher blood pressure? Am I at risk more with a lower heart rate I'm on Bp meds losartan 50 mg...
Avatar m tn I agree with you, I was put on losartan and didn't have high blood pressure and felt faint, tired, dizzy. my head went numb in the back and I started to feel faint on 25-50mg a day. maybe it's better to not take it. what happens in hypotension is that the oxygen flow to the heart and brain is actually reduced so you become faint which is terrible because then your cells start to die.
1008841 tn?1293598960 There was a recent thread on this forum regarding fibrosis regression and blood pressure drugs (specifically Cozaar, Losartan, etc. the ARB class). If you look back over the past month this thread should be available. There are a variety of related comments in the thread. I got on Cozaar for my tx induced high BP specifically for this reason! I had read studies about Cozaar being beneficial for ED, Fibrosis, and depression...
Avatar m tn I have been on Losartan for approximately eight months come here recently I have found it very difficult to swallow my food and seems like he gets caught in my esophagus, yesterday at two different Meals I began to choke on my food I had to drink several glasses of water in order to get my food to go down with no issues. Could this be a side effect of Losartan?
Avatar m tn Do some Google research about losartan and aorta and talk to your doctor. Make sure your doctor is knowledgeable and will listen to you.
