Common Questions and Answers about Loestrin side effects bleeding

loestrin

Avatar f tn Hello, Loestrin 20 tablets contain two active ingredients, ethinylestradiol and norethisterone. But it is not without side effects which include nausea, vomiting, breast tenderness, enlargement, changes in menstrual bleeding, breakthrough bleeding, rise in blood pressure, gall stones and increased chances of blood clots. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided.
Avatar f tn ive recently been put on loestrin fe and have been experiening changes.what should i do??
Avatar f tn When taken as directed it is almost 92-99.7% effective. Whether a particular pill will cause side effects or not cannot be predicted. The response varies in every woman. If you are doubtful contact your gynecologist and discuss your concerns. I sincerely hope it helps Keep me posted. Best luck and regards!
Avatar f tn s endo, put me on Lo Loestrin Fe which stopped my period after the first dose, but I had horrible side effects after just a few days. Within 24 hours of stopping, my period came back RAGING- worst cramps & heaviest bleeding ever. I simply cannot handle hormonal treatments. Should I schedule a lap ASAP?
Avatar m tn The first month I got my period on schedule and experienced no side effects. The second month I had breakthrough bleeding for about 2 weeks in the middle of the month, but no period on the placebo pills. The second month I had light brown spotting the 2nd week but again no period. Should I be concerned? I've heard that some women on this particular pill don't get their period, even my gynecologist warned me of this, but it still freaks me out!
Avatar f tn I was on lo loestrin fe for about 10 days off and on because I either forgot, or I just couldn't take the side effects any longer. I got my period shortly after of course (2 weeks before it was due) that was last month. The husband and I have had unprotected sex, and I'm 4 days late. But on the first day I took a cheap pregnancy test and it was negative. Is this normal after such a short time on the pill, or should I test again?
Avatar f tn A drug is usually prescribed by a doctor when its benefits outweigh the risks. The common side effects of Loestrin are mild nausea, vomiting, bloating, stomach cramps; breast tenderness or swelling, nipple discharge; vaginal itching or discharge; or changes in your menstrual periods, weight change, decreased sex drive etc.It is not necessary that all women will experience them. If you are anxious discuss it with your gynecologist. Take care and regards!
Avatar f tn So, I started taking Lo Loestrin Fe June 2nd. Also, I feel like I should mention this is the first time I've ever been on birth control. So this is start of week 7. And since July 7th or so, I've gone between spotting to regular period bleeding. (Not that i bleed very heavy at all, but still.) And along with that, I'm cramping worse than ever. Also, it's made me the moodiest most emotional person since the second week of taking it.
Avatar f tn More then likely it's the birth control combined with your period. I don't think you have any reason to worry.
Avatar n tn My gf had not been on birth control for a year or more. She began taking Lo Loestrin Fe on Oct. 20, the first day of her period. The side effects (increased acne, severe anxiety and depression, emotional lability) were so severe for her that she decided to stop before the pack was done. I believe she took roughly 2 weeks and a few days of the pack (maybe 3 weeks total), then quit them because she was so miserable.
Avatar m tn I have also gained a good 10-15 pounds since starting the pill up, which I have read is a common side-effect for Loestrin. The effects from the pill have me thinking that I am pregnant, even though everything else states that I am not. Between these effects and my horrible, horrible anxiety, I decided to go off the pill. Initially, the first couple days after stopping in the middle of my pack, I felt better. The swelling in my breasts went down and I had more energy.
Avatar f tn I've not had any problems with Yaz or Loestrin 24. I'm on Loestrin right now because Yaz made me pretty low emotionally. However, I think because they are so low dose pills, they shouldn't cause such a problem. I've heard bad thinkgs about Seasonal/ique, though. I dunno. I take Loestrin continiously and haven't had an issue, I don't see why you would bother with a pill specifically marketed as "less periods" when you can have them with any.
Avatar f tn So my doc put me on Lo Loestrin Fe ....anyone else ever take this? Or have bad side effects? I a little nervous cuz I've never takin birth control b4. I don't want to not be able to loose the rest of this weight. Plus I feel our family is complete now with 3 girls and our boy but dont feel comfortable doing anything permanent.
Avatar n tn I have been taking Loestrin 24fe for about a year, I have had increased amount of discharge that is white, kind of creamy and has a little odor to it. I have recently been checked by doctor to find out what is going on: nothing found, no yeast, no bacteria, no std. He has had me trying douching with different things and nothing seems to be working and I feel like I am putting my body through more by doing this, could this be my birth control?
Avatar f tn All of my friends and doctors have recommended against the shot since it has so many side effects and is irreversible. They have tried to get me on the implant, but that just isn't for me.
Avatar f tn I have been on lo loestrin fe for the past 4 months. This past month I had breakthrough bleeding. I've been told that breakthrough bleeding means that I am not protected anymore, but does that mean that my pills were not working for the entire month prior to breakthrough or just the time after that? Could I have gotten pregnant before breakthrough even if I had taken pills regularly? Thanks so much!
Avatar n tn Hi! Loestrin is a very low dose pill, and sometimes after you have been on it for awhile, the lining of the uterus gets very thin and bleeding becomes irregular. OR this could be a one time only thing, especially if you missed a pill or took one late. I would tell my patient to wait and see and if it happens regularly, you may need to swtich pills for awhile. Good Luck!
Avatar f tn I liked it better then Loestrin, since while on Loestrin I had breakthrough bleeding every single day. (So annoying.) But even with Femcon, I had breakthrough during the third week, but I was reading that a lot of women get breakthrough bleeding during the first couple of months.
Avatar f tn Hello, I've been on birth control since I was 15 (now 23) for ovarian cysts. About a year ago I switched pills from Loestrin 24 fe to Lo Loestrin 24 fe. Within the year I think I've had 2 periods (only lasting a day or so) and a few days of very light spotting. I do know this pill is the lowest dose of hormones you can have with a birth control pill. Is this normal?
Avatar n tn My gynecologist prescribed me lo loestrin fe to help with irregular and painful periods. I started taking it the first day of my period, Dec 25. I continued to bleed until Jan 20 (CD 27/the last white pill before the brown placebo pills) I also had sex on Jan 21 around 1:00 AM using the withdraw method correctly. I took a pregnancy test Jan 28 and it was negative.
Avatar m tn I recently started taking Loestrin 24. I started experiencing light bleeding during sex which lasts for a day or 2 then stops, but then occurs again the next time. It only happens during/after sex. I've never had this happen before. There was nothing abnormal when I had my check up and was given the prescription. Has anyone ever heard of this happening with this brand?
Avatar m tn m using Loestrin Fe and it supposed to have very little side effects. So far it seems to be not too bad.
Avatar f tn Has anyone ever switched from Loestrin 24 to Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo? Anybody ever gotten pregnant while on the "lo estrogen" pills? I switched from Loestrin to Ortho because I started not having periods AT ALL on the Loestrin and I had CRAZY PREGNANCY SYMPTOMS. I got a blood test but it was negative. Now I am on Ortho and am a little nervous because I've heard and read that some people have gotten pregnant on this pill. Any advice????
Avatar f tn Hi! If you were my patient, I would encourage you to consider an IUD for birth control. The Mirena can be a very convenient and effective method. If you want a regular cycle though, oral contraceptives are probably your best bet. You probably need to give then a fair try (two to three MONTHS) if you are going to use them. There will be some type of side effect with each method, so, you will have to consider which is going to be most tolerable for you. Good luck!
Avatar f tn Thanks JoyRenee. I just think it's crazy that BCP fails some people even faithful, on-time, pill takers. I was not good at taking Loestrin on time sometimes but I doubled up to make up for missed doses. So far with this pill I've had LOTS OF CRAMPING and POOPING. (TMI) I just hope I don't have crazy side effects like I did with Loestrin 24 (made me feel pregnant EVERY month).
Avatar n tn I've been on my bc (loestrin fe) for about 7 months now. I've never missed a pill but occasionally take it at a different time. Between 7:10 and 7:30. I know that that's alright but I go on and off with periods. Sometimes it starts with the white pills and sometimes the red and sometimes not at all. I also have bleeding during my second week for about 3 days. Is this normal? Could I be pregnant? Should I be worried?
Avatar n tn major anxiety which are all also side effects of the pill for the first 3 months. In the past I have also fooled myself into thinking I was pregnant multiple times when I have never been.
Avatar n tn I just started a new birth control pill called lo loestrin fe. I was on a higher dose birth control but having some side effects so i switched to this one. This was my first month of taking this pill and have gone through the entire pack and did not get my period (i am 2 days into the new pack). I am not sexually active so I am not pregnant but is there a reason for not getting it? Is this bad or is it because its a new pill?
Avatar f tn Hi everyone, I'm usually on the Maternal and Child Health forum because I had a baby girl last year. But my question is more about women's health so, here I am :) I'm on birth control pills called Tri-sprintec. It's the generic of Ortho Tri-cyclen. I stopped taking them for a little while partly because my partner and I really have no time to be intimate and it's hard for me to remember to take them everyday. Anyhow, I started taking them again two months ago.
