Avatar n tn thank you so much. Another question - my husband has recently been diagnosed with hemochromatosis - boy are we getting the run around! he's been for six phlembotomies, has cut back on red meat, quit taking vitamin C, is already fit for his 57 years and is keeping that up, and is making an attempt at cutting back on the alchohol. He's just been back to the doctor who has told him not to take milk thistle but didn't say why.

Avatar f tn It is a disorder of the nerves which causes numbness, tingling, unusual sensations and sometimes pain. Diabetes Mellitus can cause neuropathy. Other causes like vitamin deficiencies, alcohol consumption and certain medications can cause neuropathy. You may need to consult your primary care physician to detect the cause. Regards.

Avatar n tn Cholesterol is required to build cell membranes, to produce hormones, to manufacture fat-digesting bile, to make vitamin D, and to process fat soluble vitamins. It is also needed to maintain the myelin sheaths that insulate and protect nerves throughout the body. It is particularly important in preserving brain function." *** Excerpt from Dr Greg Emerson's article "Cholesterol Reduction"...
Avatar f tn We, like the apes, have lost the use of the GULO gene to make vitamin C and this is great for soaking up free radicals which stops the process of removing fats from the macrophages, preventing them becoming foam cells. I tried many things in my search to slow the disease down. From 2007 I have had relaxation classes, lowered my cholesterol to way lower than average, exercised, reduced fat intake etc etc. In march this year I had another heart attack, needing 2 stents.
Avatar n tn On my own a week ago, I stopped the lipitor and the lipitor only. For the first time in 5 yrs i have no more hives. Why is there not more articles published or side effects like mine posted for lipitor??? What is your feeling on the hives from Lipitor??
Avatar n tn ve been on niaspam and my dr. thinks I should change to lipitor because of the new drug studies on lipitor. I am a perfect weight, and i'm 63 with no incidents of heart attack but my arteries do show significant arterilosclerosis. I feel healthy and seem great so far! any advice appreciated.
1274110 tn?1270788561 I came off of Imdur 60 mg twice a day and a nitro patch. It was working but now I get real bad heartburn and my GERD (acid reflux) is back. Has any one had a similar experience? Here is a listing of my meds. Any help appreciated.
Avatar f tn I am 58 years old (female) and I weigh 203 lbs. I was recently diagnosed with hep c. I also have high cholesterol and a fatty liver. My glucose is 116 and A1C is 7. My liver biopsy is stage 2, grade 2, no cirrohsis. My gasto doctor told me that I have a 40% chance of cure on standard treatment because of my other health problems. He suggested Metformin and lipitor as treatment for my fatty liver and then I could go on the interferon and copegus treatment. I am very confused at this point.
Avatar n tn I have been taking Lipitor for the last 10 years and lately I have developed muscle pains. I was told the pain might be because of the Lipitor. I stopped taking them for a couple of months, the pain was much less however my cloestrol level was back to 290. I would appreciate any insight or suggestions.
Avatar f tn There is much controversy about cholesterol, but it is muted because of pharmaceutical financial interests in statins. Half of those who die of strokes or heart attacks have no history of high cholesterol. DeBakey discounted cholesterol. My own doctor pays no attention to it. What is the true role of cholesterol and how should one proceed? I don't know, but I won't take Lipitor.
Avatar f tn The Lipitor package insert recommends that a test of your liver function should be done prior to and at 12 weeks following both the start of therapy with Lipitor and any increase of dose, and periodically (for example, every six months) thereafter. If there are any changes in your liver function, drinking alcohol may make it worse.
Avatar n tn People taking lipitor are recommended to avoid alcohol in their diet because it raises the triglyceride levels, another lipid which is a risk factor for heart disease. Going to soft drinks would be far more beneficial for your body obviously but if this is impossible I would switch your lipitor to the mornings. Lipitor, unlike some statin drugs, can be taken any time of the day.
Avatar n tn If hypothyrodism can cause high cholesterol is it not better to take thyorid hormone replacement than Lipitor?

329994 tn?1301663248 This is a question to those of you with CFS. I have been having aches in my ankles and legs, hard to describe but an all over aching and I have to move them around to make it feel better. My cardio doc thought it might be the Lipitor and it did get better off the Lipitor but hasn't gone away. I do notice it during the day but more at night when I am lying in bed. I just wonder if this is a symptom of CFS? Do others have it?
Avatar m tn I do take a number of supplements including Centrum, CoQ10, hyaluronic acid, fish oil, an aspirin and Lipitor. Only Lipitor has been long term and that does not appear to increase sunburn sensitivity (though rashes are possible). Is this a normal part of aging or are there other factors involved?
393419 tn?1228447393 I have high cholesterol and can't go back to my statin drug, Lipitor because my liver enzymes are elevated and the Lipitor will just make it higher. Have been taking Co-enzyme Q10. How does the Q10 counter balance a cholesterol tablet? Also, how much Q10 should I be taking? Thanks!
