383138 tn?1314167773 wants to do a lidocaine IV infusion, he says IV infusion of lidocaine is different than the dental injection. My cardiologist says I can't have lidocaine at all, due to my past severe heart reaction to it, but my pain dr. thinks it will be OK and has scheduled me for infusion for pain relief for this Friday. I dont know what to do, so any info on the lidocaine and any contraidictions with heart arrhythmias would be helpful. Thankyou.
1168718 tn?1464983535 Hi GUys, was wondering if any of you had or have had lot potassium levels? if so what was done, and do they know how come you had low levels.?? I'm asking abecause my recent ( last week) in hospital, they said I had low levels and they had me on a IV for 2 days out of the six I was on IV with a special potassium one. I don't know anything else ( as Candaian Dr. seem to be afraid to tell you anything) .... anyways, was wondering what you guys think .
Avatar f tn Does anyone else have recurring issues with low potassium (hypokalemia)? Prior to TX I don't think it had been really ever checked but since starting it's shown up low (2.1-2.8) a few times.
1500525 tn?1458529998 Hi, I'm 43 & in hospice bcuz of CHF. Lately, I haven't been able to hold anything down. I'm not dehydrated (IV in the arm) but I'm extremely thirsty, and it seems nothing quenches my thirst after I take a drink I actually feel more thirsty. And when my mouth gets so dry like extremely dry, I get nausea, dry heave, then up comes bile ( the same thing is happening out the other end & same color/no smell I am told) I'm guessing that's bile too.
Avatar n tn My 2yo corgi was given the large amounts of IV fluid when I brought him with severe stomach pain to the hospital. Next day my dog drank much larger than normal amounts of water and produce large amounts of dilute urine. He became weaker and weaker, the doctors did a lot of tests until they realized two days after when my dog almost died that his blood potassium level is really low. After adding potassium to fluid injections and to his food my dog recovered very quickly.
Avatar f tn has anyone dane this??? I was inpatient at JH back in February and had a specific IV Infusion that supposedly is only performed there. BUT I FORGET THE NAME OF IT!!! its is a terribly long medical (the ones we dont even try to pronounce) name but shortened with initials. . . . . I am currently in patient at Methodist - Jefferson Headache Unit for the pain I am having and my body has rejected the DHE! I got violently sick last night . . . . it was horrible.
Avatar m tn I read that lidocaine can cause a seizure. I have had injections many times with no problem. What could have gone wrong? 1602878 tn?1304336016 I knew nothing about potassium levels until this event. It took eight bags of potassium and eighteen hours of IV to bring my level up to 3.5. The low level shut down my GI system and I'm told that my level could have caused a stroke or heart attack. It got low because of a water pill I take and lasix which I sometimes add in because of leg swelling due to meds- celebrex and gabapentin. now I know I should have the Doctor monitor my potassium levels while on these drugs.
Avatar f tn I had been in ER last week for severe dehydration last Friday and pumped with saline by IV. The next evening I was at work, had massive panic attack and collapsed. I was rushed downstairs to ER. My blood pressure was initially 186/120. My normal range is 120/60. Tachycardia, severe dehydration, and my potassium was low enough after I was given saline, I was infused with potassium by IV. My blood pressure after I was done was 100/73. I’ve had endoscopy and colonoscopy that we’re clear.
Avatar n tn well, adranaline can cause palpitation if u r ardiac pt. or if it injected IV. or even u r with fast. but it is immediate response and emergency which not soppouse to last for this much time.i think this is because pulpities in 17# ormay be because of 4# if u have pain in 4# .if fever , headache, or pain.if worsen on lyeing down position than chances of 17# r more. dr.vipul(b.d.s.) kadi. gujarat.india.
Avatar m tn I am about to start Rocephin 2gr IM q 24hrs reconstituted in Lidocaine and wonder if anyone has had any experience with 21 days of treatment? Initially my doc wanted me to have the PICC line for three weeks, however I asked that to be changed to intramuscular injections instead, as I participate in contact sports, and hence would run the risk of dislodged catheter. My doc's treatment plan is for neuro-lyme. Can anyone share their experience in side effects, improvment, treatment outcome?

Avatar m tn Hi Naomi! Welcome to our community. I get fluids for my dysautonomia through a mediport in my chest, so I'm definitely familiar with this one! I'm surprised to hear you feel weaker now that you're getting IV hydration. I'm a bit stumped as to why that might be. The only thing I can think of is that it's possible your potassium levels are low (hypokalemic) which the IV fluids certainly won't help.
1448921 tn?1287789632 (In fact, I sometimes need large volumes of IV fluids—6 liters last time I had to get IV saline on top of the oral fluid and salt loading I was already doing that day—and they have no reservations whatsoever about doing that for me despite the fact that I already have preexisting hypokalemia which is regulated with Rx potassium supplementation. If the IV saline were expected to throw off my potassium levels, they would be upping my supplementation temporarily accordingly.
Avatar f tn I have had (and still do) have severe morning sickness to the point were my potassium is quite low (potassium controls the heart) and they have talked about admitting me to give me infusions (IV) why would he want to wait 2 weeks when my bloods are getting worse? Im already on supplements . Im stressed :( I feel like ringing the clinic and requesting they see me next week rather then rush me in for a caesarean . Am I over reacting?
8958586 tn?1481360712 Potassium supplements cause stomach spasms and I have spontaneous vomiting from the spasms. I get IV potassium, and it still affects my stomach so I have to have extra IV fluids, IV zofran and imodium WHILE i am getting the IV potassium. My body rejects it like a foreign organ. And potassium from foods high in potassium don't get absorbed by my stomach and distributed in my body. Once it drops below 3.0 I am usually too sick to get it back up on my own anyways. My muscles stop working.
Avatar f tn I always have to be premedicated with steroids IV and IV Benadryl before receiving most IV meds. My nursing background has sure come in handy; however never wanted to have to use it on myself.
Avatar f tn Usually sodium and potassium work hand in hand but if she is in the hospital on IV (usually saline) the IV may be keeping here sodium levels in normal ranges maybe low normal? and if she is like some of us, we drop in both Na and K. I know I do. Antibodies check on the source of the problem - and if they don't think the problem is cortisol, it can sometimes be an issue with the renin/aldosterone hormones - it can cause problems with potassium and blood pressure - so it is worth checking.
Avatar f tn 8 and my pressure was extremely high. The hospital gave me potassium by IV and pills during my stay. Today I was given iron by IV because I am anemic also. Thank you for your reply.
Avatar n tn Iodized salt is thus table salt mixed with a minute amount of potassium iodide, Dehydration results from the loss of water and important electrolytes from the body, including potassium, sodium, chloride, and many other minerals that are often overlooked. I am unsure y u r trying to avoid potassium as it is one of the items lacking when u dehydrate...many with chiari may have low levels of magnesium and potassium.
Avatar f tn Has anyone here with reduced GFR at stage II, III, or IV ever had chest pain/heart issues due to the build-up of potassium, phosphorus, calcium, or magnesium from food they ate? I can feel the difference pretty soon after straying from the kidney diet - either that night or the next day. Does anyone else here also feel the difference soon?
Avatar n tn I am concerned as to why it got so low in the first place, and will it return to that level after time. I was given a IV bag of potassium, but am concerned. I have a Dr appt on Wednesday, and will ask to have another blood test. Has anyone ever experienced this. I have read about everything that could cause it to be this low, but none apply to me.
