Lexapro normal dosage

Common Questions and Answers about Lexapro normal dosage

lexapro

I asked for something other than Xanax last August and my doc put me on Lexapro. I'm on a low dosage (10 mg). I take it for anxiety/panic attacks. I am now in the process of tapering off of it. In spite of increased exercise and no change in diet, I have put on a large amount of extra weight (that I never needed in the first place :-( ). My stomach has also been starting to bother me within the last couple of months as well.

Today for the first time she told me that she felt like she does not belong here, and that she wants to die, and she feels like she is not like a normal kid. We use to go to a therapist, but she would not open up and talk, she would just say I don't know. She is not on drugs, and has very few friends. We never fight, we have a good relationship, so when I went to her room tonight, and she told me this I have been very upset.
I have been trying to wean my wife off Lexapro. Presently she is on 5mg daily. Originally she was on 20mg daily. As I understand the withdrawal regiment as one should not reduce the dosage until the patient is stabilized on that particular dosage. Since she has been on 5mg (2 months) we have experienced several symptoms and they have dissipated, however one symptom has lingered for three weeks. This one is absolutely driving her nuts.
I just wanted to share my story about Lexapro. I took one 10mg Lexapro pill and 8 hours later had a severe adverse reaction to the drug. My life was about to become a nightmare.(This incident happened 14 months ago) My experience is rare but it is important to stress the dangers not explained by professionals in the field and there are many similarities between my experience and that of those who experience terrible withdrawal symptoms from SSRI's.
For the last two weeks I have been taking Lexapro because of the sexual side effects of Prozac and I
Hi, this is my first post, and I guess I just need some help to understand how or if my medication is working, I have spoken to my doctor and he has suggested that I up my current dosage from 10mg to 20mg of Lexapro. To date I've been on Lexapro for 4 weeks and four days. I can't really claim to have experienced any real relief from my constant mood of depression, which has always swung.
Well some already know my issues others dont. But Dr started me on Lexapro and now I feel worse. I have taken it before about 4 years ago and did not feel this way. My thoughts are alot stronger now. Suggestion or thoughts besides stop taking them?
Day 5 since I upped my Lexapro to 20mgs per doctor and seems like I have had an increase in tiredness and anxiety? Is this normal for any dosage change? Dang, I had a pretty good weekend.
Perhaps you could try a more gradual decrease in dosage. Lexapro is available in a liquid formulation that would allow you to slowly decrease your daily dose. You could ask your doctor about this option.
Hello, I have a teen with GAD and beginning lexapro. I'm hoping some here could share experiences while taking this drug, i.e. especially bothersome side effects? how long before you felt a little less anxious? sleep disturbances? Thank you in advance.
Or if, when I start the prozac that I will start to feel normal?? or as normal as possible with drug controlled depression!! Thanks to all... have a good night!
After being off 10 mg of Lexapro for 30 days my new doctor put me back on it saying that 10 mg was not a large enough dosage to be theraputic for me. I took 10mg a day for the first 7 days and now have taken 20 mg a day for the last 7 days. For the last two days I have felt very nervous, not really anxious, just kinda like I was crawling out of my skin. Is the normal and how long should I expect it to take to start feeling the benefits of the higher dosage?
thanx 4 ur reply, yes this is my 2nd time going back on lexapro 1st time i have had dosage increased and thank god its working great,i went through yrs of hell without help finally i had 2 get something 2 help always refused meds but glad now i decided 2 try them thanx again
They want to up my dosage in the near future. When I first started Lexapro, I didn't really experience many side effects. However recently, in the past probably 2 weeks or so, I have been sleeping an unusually excessive amount. I'll go to bed at 2 in the morning and easily sleep until 1 o clock in the afternoon, wake up, do something, and go back to bed at 2 p.m. until about 4 p.m. I also have been getting awful headaches at about the same time every night.
I had been on Lexapro previously and this happened to me. It is a normal side effect that should go away in a week or so...however if it doesnt then contact your doctor--it may not be the medication for you. But medications act different for anyone, the side effects could last up to a few weeks. But, if you already have been on it for 4 weeks and it is just starting now, it may be unrelated to the Lexapro.
I don't really know the normal dosage for your medication but if your doctor prescribed it then it must help. Your second question....I would taper off slowly WITH consultation from your doctor. It is usually easier, in my experience, to come off of lower doses...just ensure you are not 'self' medicating. Keep us posted!
) If you are on Lexapro, there must be a reason (anxiety?) so I wouldn't recommend not being on anything. I'd talk to your doctor and try something else, and if that doesn't work, something else. We all react a bit different to medications and sometimes you just have to try and try again until you find something that works well for YOU. Good luck!
I started taking Lexapro last Fall after I stared having PVC's/PAC's. I've been on it now for awhile but really haven't noticed any decrease in my Palps. As many of you know these skipped beats can have a mind of their own. The one thing that does help me relax when my palps are bad is ativan as needed 1 to 2 mg. So my question is is it really necessary to keep taking the Lexapro? It may be decreasing my overall anxiety but my palps seem to come on when they please. Thanks!
You gradually increase the number of days on the lower dosage while still going back to the normal dosage only once each time. This would allow the lower effect to be a bit more averaged out, since there is some residual effect that take a while to clear out. I would call your pharmacist asap just for some human contact and also talk to the doc asap. I didn't get much of any withdrawal effect as or after I went off my meds.
I have been on Lexapro for about 6 weeks now. I did not show many side effects until now. I did notice a decrease in wanting to have sex, but when i do want it i want it NOW. I can not use a virbrater to help me along because i get a head ache on the left side of my head and it travels down to my sholder when i use my vibrater. On the other hand when i dont use the vibrater and have intercorse with my husband or use my hand i Dont get the pain....I dont want to give up the vibrater...
I been prescribed lexapro (20mg) I took it few times (half dosage at night, 1/2 in morning )but I'm so paranoid about taking pills because side effects seem worse off than what the pill is prescribed for ,so I stopped and just been taking xanax (seem to stop working) just wondering if anyone had good experience with lexarpro?
Is this a normal side effect while getting used to the lexapro for my anxiety to get worse before it gets better? I hope so or else i have to quit taking it. Currently i am on 5mg of lexapro and I have ativan 1mg when needed.
Hi all--My son has been in the hospital the last few days so things have been a little hectic. I take 20 mg's of Lexapro a day and because of being at the hospital, missed my doses on Tuesday and Thursday. Starting yesterday, I feel horrible. I feel like I am coming down with the worst flu of my life. My back hurts, my muscles ache, my throat hurts, I have a terrible headache, I feel faint, my heart feels like it is going to jump out of my chest and my resting heart rate it through the roof.
This is my first attempt to discuss this via the internet. Thanks all who make this available. I do not believe I should be on an anti-depressant, however, due to a series of events, I am suffering the "cure" of Lexapro and Klonopin. I had been on a med for digestion, which after 11 days, had me in such a confused and anxious state that I wound up in the emergency room. Checked out healthy and sent home.
I started lexapro wednesday as i left the doctors office desperate with samples praying it would help as today is 10 monthes my dads been gone, I have tried so many antidepresants and have felt so bad with major anxiety attacks and depressing i thought i would give Lexapro a try i couldn't feel any worse... The first day i felt loopy tired But relieved no big deal thats normal yesterday some anxiety and slite inching? i was told by a friend she did too.
Which, btw, you should have been well informed of when it was being prescribed to you, or when you were told to read the patient information leaflet. The PDR states that normal side effects of Lexapro include drowsiness, fatigue, sedation and apathy. These symptoms are similar to almost all SSRIs and they should subside once your body adjusts to the medication. You've only been on it a few days, and that brings us to...........
I admit I am still going through a lot right now, but I know I've found ways to feel normal before, before starting Lexapro again. I feel like there are two different people in me right now, one just craving to end it all and not have to worry about a single thing again and then there's the normal me that wants to keep fighting. It's literally a battle in my head between the two all day every day.
i was taking lexapro 10mg for a month and a half. i really liked it. it seemed to be working well with hardly and side effects. then a week ago i started having real bad dizzy spells. it has taken a week but i am finally starting to get over them. my question is can you all the sudden start having side effects?
