Levoxyl generic

Common Questions and Answers about Levoxyl generic

synthroid

Avatar f tn I was just curious about taking generic Levoxyl. I have been reading that taking the generic may not keep your levels accurate since none of the generics have the same potency. I have been having weird symptoms that i believe are related to taking the generic form of Levoxyl. Like heart racing, dizziness, shortness of breath, itching, irritability. Has any one else had any issues with this?
Avatar n tn I was switched by my pharmacy from Synthroid to the generic, Levoxyl, about 6 months ago and seemed to have developed a facial rash which is somewhat splotchy over my cheeks (more on one side than the other). Is it possible for generics to cause this kind of a reaction. My TSH levels seem to remain in check ranging from 1.0 - 2.25. I am currently on 200mcg/day.
7074596 tn?1387754708 I believe that Levoxyl is the generic for Synthroid.
Avatar f tn If you go to good RX it does not list a generic for Levoxyl. Synthroid of course is levothyroxin as it’s generic. There Hass to be a difference between the two drugs, I was told to get off the medication and have awful insomnia when I was trying to switch between the two and had a dose increase and I’m highly sensitive to medications in general.
Avatar f tn Levoxyl is indeed a brand name levothyroxine, like Synthroid. It's the only brand my insurance covers, that's why I take it. It's works out best for me but the name has been a real pain. Now, before leaving the pharmacy counter I have to take my med out of the bag, read it and make sure it says 'Levoxyl - 112 mcg.
404389 tn?1217030704 I was told to never go with a generic brand. I take Synthroid, but at one point I switched to Levoxyl. The Levoxyl seemed to do NOTHING. Different brands may not work as well, or have adverse effects. You should stay with the same medicine you are taking.
Avatar n tn Hi, there is anyone else having to deal with this Levoxyl recall? I have had hypothyroidism for 18 years. Diagnosed with Hashimoto's 8 years ago. I was on levothyroxine 100 for many years and did great. Then something changed, Hashimoto's Dr.s said...Been on Levoxyl 75 for 4 years and have never felt good. Tried Armour, too much t3 for me, I swelled up on Sinthroid. I am ok on Levoxyl I guess but now they had to give me the generic because of the recall.
Avatar n tn Thanks!
Avatar n tn I was taking Levoxyl for hypo-thyroidism and it was automatically changed to the generic form, L-Thyroxine. After taking the Thyroxine I noticed a terrible burning in the throat and indigestion which I never had with the Levoxyl. So I am requesting to be changed back to the Levoxyl. I think some of these medications have different ingredients. I never had this happen with the Levoxyl. I hope this helps anyone who has been put on the generic form of medication.
Avatar f tn I was on levoxyl from 2008 through late 2010 but then switch from a really great Endo to my PCP and she would only write for the generic. I know I felt really good on levoxyl and am thinking about asking my current Endo to prescribe but am a bit hesitant because of some people saying it's not the same. I took levoxyl for two days so, now that I think about it, I am not really sure if it caused the insominia.
Avatar n tn Let me first re-iterate that if something is working for you, I wouldn't rock the boat. It's not worth it. Also, my endo doesn't like generic, either, and the first thing he did was take me off generic and put me on Levoxyl, same dose as the generic I'd been on. My labs 4 weeks after that were WORSE than they'd been on generic. However, I think that anything SOLD, not manufactured, in the U.S.
7991152 tn?1396061810 I have been on thyroid hormone for 45 yrs. I switched to a generic; levoxyl once for about 2 yrs and never want to do that again. I didn't attribute it to the switch because me loosing my mind didn't happen immediately. I couldn't understand what was wrong, I felt like my mind was not there, not me, crazy. Then read in a pill book that levoxyl had difference dosages of ingredients then Synthroid did. I remember there being significant differences.
1139187 tn?1355706647 Yes i did eventually adjust to the changes.. If i was on levothyroxine then i had to bump, bump, bump.. until i felt better and saw any improvement in symptoms.. I found that when i switched to "name brand synthroid" i felt better and no bump bump bump.. I was on name brand synthroid for 2 years "symptoms free" when my insurance switched me to generic levothyroxine" my labs and my symptoms went crazy and this is after i was stable on synthroid for 2 years..
Avatar f tn s a gelcap and hypoallergenic and supposedly absorbed better than tablets. Another alternative would be to try a generic. The main problem with generic is that pharmacies can change which manufacturer they buy it from at an time and without telling you, but some pharmacies will work with you and let you specify which manufacturer they buy from to fill your script.
Avatar n tn ve been on Synthroid, Levoxyl and generic, and I saw absolutely no difference between them. However, some people do have issues with fillers, and those vary maufacturer to manufacturer. Interestingly, when my endo switched me from generic to Levoxyl (no dose change) my labs actually got a bit worse, and I had to up my dose of Levoxyl slightly.
Avatar n tn I recently change from a generic levoxyl to synthroind and then develped diarrea after taking the medication. I went back to the generic and the diarrea has continued. I have been on this level for years 112MCG. I have discussed this with my internist who feel I need to take more fiber and more water. Is there anything you can help me with this problem.
Avatar f tn I have found that any of the brand names and the generic can make arrythmias worse. I have been on generic, Synthroid and Levoxyl at one time or another, and they all cause increased episodes of tachycardia. In my case, I think it's the actual medicine in the pills that causes the tachy, not the fillers. I'm also on a beta blocker to control the tachy. My guess is that it's your increase that has caused the PVCs, not the generic versus Synthroid.
Avatar f tn Levoxyl is NOT generic levothyroxine. Levoxyl is another brand name, just like Synthroid, but from a different manufacturer. Were you on Levoxyl or generic levothyroxine? If you are prescribed Levoxyl, it's just like being prescribed Synthroid, and it always comes from the same manufacturer. If you are prescribed generic levo, the pharmacy can change its supplier at any time, and you do not know where your next refill is coming from.
Avatar n tn There are also several (around 8) generic producers. The key is consistency -- if your pharmacist can always get generic T4 from the same source, that usually works as well as a brand and can save money. If not, then there may be fluctuations in the response to the T4. In general it is recommended to "protect the brand" to ensure consistency.
Avatar f tn ve been on generic, Synthroid and Levoxyl at one time or another, and I found absolutely no difference among them. However, my endo is one who doesn't like generic. He put me on Levoxyl. You have to chose your battles, I guess, so I'm keeping him happy. Interestingly enough, after switching to Levoxyl from generic (same dose), my labs actually took a nose dive.
616450 tn?1228433627 Levoxyl is not a generic, but switching to Synthroid may not hurt. I think it is about three months too soon to make that decision.
Avatar n tn s possible that you are having an experience similar to mine in switching from generic to Levoxyl. I actually ended up taking MORE Levoxyl to get the same result as the generic I'd been taking. Post your new labs when you get them. It's possible you could use a little increase.
Avatar n tn In the United States, brand names include Synthroid, Levoxyl, Levothroid, Eltroxin, Tirosint and Unithroid; Generic forms are Levothyroxine sodium USP and L-thyroxine. There is still debate over whether generic thyroid supplements are as effective as thyroid brand name supplements.
Avatar f tn Synthroid, Levoxyl, and other brands of generic Levothyroxine all have comparable doses. If you switch brands from generic to Synthroid, the dose would remain the same unless your doctor changes your dosage for some reason.
Avatar f tn Is there another non-generic for synthroid? It does not work for me. I was taking a pill that was not round and believe it worked better, levoxyl (sp?) Are these the same or is one preferred over the other? I have such exhaustion it becomes difficult to do anything.
