synthroid

1201433 tn?1328997637 This is not a side effect of Levothyroxine. What could be happening is the medication for thyroid may not be balancing the thyroid out correctly and throwing off other hormones causing this issue. My thought would be to ask for a full round of tests. Thyroid FT3 and FT4, FSH/LH - DHEA, A1C and your metobolic panel labs.
Avatar f tn t have any side effects. Side effects of thyroid meds are generally related to over- or under-medication. Some people do have sensitivity to the fillers in the various tablets.

Avatar f tn 025 mcg levothyroxine side effects to get over took me 9 weeks went back to dr for bloodwork and was told me cholesterol had increased and my numbers had not changed so the dr increased my dosage to .050 mcg levothyroxine i started this the end of february and it is may and i am still experiencing tiredness, mood swings, depression, anxiety all severe why? and does this ease up?
Avatar f tn It may be a combination of both stabilizing on the med itself and having the condition of hypothyroidism in general. Many sufferers have this issue as I can personally contest too. I do not have these "real time" dreams at all since getting my Armour thyroid right - along with becoming optimal with my condition. Do you have anxiety with your condition too? Most people that have built up anxiety issues from the hypo will say these dreams are more vivid.
1063764 tn?1272821064 Hey I have been taking Tirosint for 3 months and I have had terrible side effects. I have lost so much more hair, I have broken out in hives, major headaches, memory loss, confusion, major depression, weight gain, on and on. I was taking armor before this and I had a lot less side effects. I felt so much better but the med world doesn't want to support armor for some reason so they fight against us taking it.
Avatar f tn Tirosint contains only 4 ingredients - levothyroxine, gelatin, glycerin, and water. There is no know reaction to the levothyroxine itself. If anyone did have an actual allergy to the fillers they can have a compounding pharmacy make up medication with just the levothyroxine in it. That said, you can really suffer when starting medication. I found this out the hard way when I first started thyroxine.
Avatar f tn I began to have terrible itching and hives and swelling. So I stopped the medicine. I am wondering what are the side effects of not having a thyroid and not taking the medicine? If anyone has an answer please I am interested in what to do next.
Avatar f tn The "side effects" of levothyroxine are, typically, those of hyperthyroidism (over medication). I think you misunderstood your doctor... TSH needs to be lower than your current 6.5, not higher and taking the medication will lower TSH not raise it. Is TSH all that was tested? If so, you need to ask your doctor to test Free T3 and Free T4, which are the actual thyroid hormones, whereas TSH is a pituitary hormone.
Avatar f tn Are you 1) over 50, OR 2) been hypo for a long time OR 3) have a history of heart arrythmias? If so, your starting dose might have been too high. Some of us are very sensitive to levo, and just can't hurry the process of building up to a therapeutic dose. I was all three of the above, and my PCP nearly did me in starting me on 88 mcg. Slow and steady is the way to go. Don't put up with the side effects...you need to start at a lower dose (12.5-25 mcg). Then you can slowly build.
Avatar f tn Had a large tumor and total thyroidectomy removed 3 weeks ago. The past few days having dull but strong headaches that go into my ear, down my jaw into my neck. I'm taking 100 mcg of Levothyroxine a day and 2 Calcitrol a day. My calcium was very low after surgery.
Avatar f tn I had the same issues when I first started taking levothyroxine. Everyone kept telling me that the levo doesn't cause side effects, but I felt like I drank about 25 cups of coffee when I took it! That was 50mcg, my doctor kept increasing the dosage because my TSH was so high. Between 300 and 800. with every increase I just felt worse. I have Hashimoto's Encephalopathy which is a lot different from HD, but still effects the thyroid.
Avatar f tn Hello, I notice that you seem to know a lot about the thyroid and medication. Well I would be most grateful if you please tell me if it's okay if I stopped Levothyroxine 50 after taking it for 3 months? And replacing it with something natural? My Nurse Practitioner is not all that good, she has prescribed me wrong medicine before, and I'm experiencing some scary side effects. Please reply to me as soon as possible. Thank you so much. God bless.
Avatar f tn If he does have any unpleasant side effects from the medicine, switch him to the brand name of it--Synthroid. Doctors will say it's the same, but I believe there are different fillers in the generic levothyroxine. I know I feel much better on the name brand Synthroid than I do on levothyroxine. I was achy and had joint pain on the generic. My mom is the same way, so maybe it's just something weird with our genetic makeup! :) Good luck and try not to worry--he will do great!
Avatar f tn I had a bout with AFib last year (just the one time) and they think it was caused by anxiety. One of the side effects of the levothyroxine is irregular heartbeat. I called he doctor's office and was told by the nurse that it is highly unlikely that I would have any problems on such a small dose. Is this considered a small dose? I took the first pill today. AFib is one experience I do not want to encounter again. I have well controlled blood pressure (with metoprolol and HCTZ).
Avatar n tn The levothyroxine does give side effects.. Put in Google" levothyroxine head fuzzy" you will see loads of side effects not listed in any medical book.. I know I was one of them untill I switched to a name bran which I am told is the original. Its is called Eltroxin made by a company called "Goldshield" since I have been on this I am 99% better io can function normally.
