Avatar f tn was diagnosed with borderline hypothyroidism started .025 mcg levothyroxine side effects to get over took me 9 weeks went back to dr for bloodwork and was told me cholesterol had increased and my numbers had not changed so the dr increased my dosage to .050 mcg levothyroxine i started this the end of february and it is may and i am still experiencing tiredness, mood swings, depression, anxiety all severe why? and does this ease up?
Avatar f tn It may be a combination of both stabilizing on the med itself and having the condition of hypothyroidism in general. Many sufferers have this issue as I can personally contest too. I do not have these "real time" dreams at all since getting my Armour thyroid right - along with becoming optimal with my condition. Do you have anxiety with your condition too? Most people that have built up anxiety issues from the hypo will say these dreams are more vivid.
Avatar f tn Tirosint contains only 4 ingredients - levothyroxine, gelatin, glycerin, and water. There is no know reaction to the levothyroxine itself. If anyone did have an actual allergy to the fillers they can have a compounding pharmacy make up medication with just the levothyroxine in it. That said, you can really suffer when starting medication. I found this out the hard way when I first started thyroxine.
1063764 tn?1272821064 Hey I have been taking Tirosint for 3 months and I have had terrible side effects. I have lost so much more hair, I have broken out in hives, major headaches, memory loss, confusion, major depression, weight gain, on and on. I was taking armor before this and I had a lot less side effects. I felt so much better but the med world doesn't want to support armor for some reason so they fight against us taking it.
Avatar f tn If by "conventional treatment" you are referring to levothyroxine, I don't think you have much to fear. It doesn't have side effects the way most other drugs do since it's a synthetic version of a hormone your body should already be making (but isn't making enough of if you have thyroid disease). You might have "side effects" if you take too much, but typically people are started on a low dose which is gradually increased.
Avatar f tn t have any side effects. Side effects of thyroid meds are generally related to over- or under-medication. Some people do have sensitivity to the fillers in the various tablets.
1201433 tn?1328997637 This is not a side effect of Levothyroxine. What could be happening is the medication for thyroid may not be balancing the thyroid out correctly and throwing off other hormones causing this issue. My thought would be to ask for a full round of tests. Thyroid FT3 and FT4, FSH/LH - DHEA, A1C and your metobolic panel labs.
Avatar f tn The "side effects" of levothyroxine are, typically, those of hyperthyroidism (over medication). I think you misunderstood your doctor... TSH needs to be lower than your current 6.5, not higher and taking the medication will lower TSH not raise it. Is TSH all that was tested? If so, you need to ask your doctor to test Free T3 and Free T4, which are the actual thyroid hormones, whereas TSH is a pituitary hormone.
Avatar m tn There are several reasons for your erectile issues, including the hypothyroidism(which contrbutes quite a bit), possible side effects from the blood pressure agents, side effects of having high blood pressure in the first place, and even the possibility of a low testosterone(which should be checked). Speak with your doctor about increasing your thyroid dose, possible side effects of your blood pressure agents and getting your blood pressure down, and also testing your testosterone levels.
Avatar m tn Back in the 90's I was diagnosed with Graves Disease. I was treated with radioactive iodine and placed on syntroid. I haven't had any bad side effects over the years. At the end of Dec, 2012, my Doctor lowered my Levothyroxine from .20mg to .15mg. A few weeks later I began experiencing some confusion, constipation, dry skin, aversion to the cold, overall fatigue, gaining weight while not eating much and blotting.
Avatar f tn i just started about 5 months ago on them, i have had no side effects at all, none. i would say go with what your endo tells you to do.
325224 tn?1342795914 I was recently diagnosed with Hypothyroidism and started taking 50 of the Levothyroxine a few days ago. Can anyone tell me what I can expect to feel as far as side effects of the meds working? Today is day 3 and I had caffeine for the first time on the meds and I'm shaky. Is this normal? My TSH level was at 7.5 when I had my blood tests done last.
544430 tn?1283712658 Can anyone tell me if their are any side effects from taking Levothyroxine,i am on ...50 MICROGRAMS, per day,,,18mths ago i started with Excema,,i also have a cough now and then sometimes i wake up at night coughing ,,I am also taken 5MG Ramipril per day ............Could it be the Ramipril ?????
Avatar f tn Well let me add to the growing list of being a poster child of all the side effects. I am now diagnosed with hypothyroidism. Doc said Ribivarin can bring out illnesses that have remained dormant (for lack of medical term). Now on Levothyroxine 25mg for life. But I will say this has helped so much with the fatigue. I already am suffering from Anemia so fatigue is my enemy! Week 9 of Procrit (40,000) and 2 transfusions...ugh!
Avatar f tn Hello, I was diagnosed with thyroiditis and after going from hyperthyroidism to hypothyroidism I was put on 75mg of levothyroxine than my doctor said to only take half a dosage and now I've been off the medication for 6 days I was supposed to be done with treatment but ever since I stopped the medication I've been feeling dizzy again and exhausted my hair is falling out again my hands are shaking I have cold feet and nausea I told my doctor but he says I'm fine I was wondering could
Avatar f tn Oily skin and acne are symptoms of hyperthyroidism (overmedication), not side effects of proper doses of levothyroxine. Perhaps your meds need to be reduced??? Do you have any other hyper symptoms? If you have recent labs, please post with reference ranges, which vary lab to lab and have to come from your own lab report. Do you know the cause of your hypothyroidism?
Avatar n tn Although 6.78 is abit above range, it's not drastically high. You were able to conceive so that's a good thing. I would recommend that you monitor ur levels and also post them here. Med's for hypothyroidism will take several weeks to take affect, although you may develop side effects before hand.
Avatar f tn I had a bout with AFib last year (just the one time) and they think it was caused by anxiety. One of the side effects of the levothyroxine is irregular heartbeat. I called he doctor's office and was told by the nurse that it is highly unlikely that I would have any problems on such a small dose. Is this considered a small dose? I took the first pill today. AFib is one experience I do not want to encounter again. I have well controlled blood pressure (with metoprolol and HCTZ).
711158 tn?1229544700 I have recently been diagnosed with Hypothyroidism. I just started taking Levothyroxine 50mcg to "start" with. Been on it now for 3 weeks. Dont have a clue what my levels are - my Dr just said my blood tests came back low. I also have high blood pressure and have begun meds for that 1 month ago. My Dr said to expect some heart palpitations and some elevated BP results because my body is trying to get used to all the new meds.
