Avatar n tn I once read (not sure how true it is) that there are no known allergies to levothyroxine. The only problems come from either the fillers or the drug’s interaction with other drugs. Levothyroxine is the placement therapy most prescribed to patients who’ve had their thyroids removed. If you are concerned, then you will definitely want to go over all this with your dr. Perhaps he/she can do testing up front.
Avatar f tn After having a thyroidectomy I am taking levothyroxine (in Greece is ethyrox 112). My T3 is 0,88 (normal 0,8-2,0) my T4 is 7,91 (normal 5,1-14,1) and my TSH is 1,31 (normal 0,27-420). For a reason I haven't been able to find out (no matter how many tests I ve been taking from endocrinologists, pathologists, neurologists etc) I 've developed in chills, muscle spasms and small seizures (without loosing conscience) of 1-2 seconds each.
1820479 tn?1317320956 Side effects/adverse reactions of levothyroxine are very few, since the actual medication contained in the pills, is the same as what your body produces....... the major side effects come from over medication, causing hyperthyroidism, which presents with the symptoms you noted or reactions to the fillers and/or binders used in making the pills, which can also have those same symptoms..
Avatar n tn Medications can affect us all differently; I'd suggest that you see a dermatologist; they may be able to do tests to find out for sure. Or try switching to a different medication. Have you tried Tirosint?
Avatar f tn Hi,I've been taking Levothyroxine Na (Euthyrox ) for many years, i'm afraid that the decreasing hemoglobin and gaining weight DESPITE of my diet control are the side-effects of prolong intake of this medicines. Do i need to refer it with my Endocrinologist? so that she will change my medicines? , because according to her its a life-time intake of medicines...please advise!!
Avatar f tn I have no Apetite and if a get hungry I have to hurry and eat something because if it goes away I won't be able to eat I get nauseous. My dr. Just put me on levothyroxine, but I been experiencing this for a long time, is just worse now. Is this part of the thyroid disorders???
Avatar f tn For 25 years I have had Hoshimoto's. I have been on 50 mcg Levothyroxine keeping my TSH right in the mid normal range. I have been about 30 lbs overweight, sluggish with no energy and developed nerve tingling, sinus tachycardia with extra beats from the upper and lower chambers of the heart, along with chest pain over the last one and one half year. Treatment for that consists of Propranolol ER 80 mg. I also was not taking my levo on a daily basis, with food, & all hours of the day.
Avatar n tn Have you tried a specific brand of levothyroxine? Some of us work best with a particular brand name. Personally, if I don't get Synthroid then it just won't work for me. Others have very different reactions. Talk to your Dr.
Avatar f tn I have Hasimoto's disease and was given 50 mcg of Levothyroxine. My numbers did not improve and the dr increased the dosage to 75 mcg. Within a week and for 4 months I was an emotional, depressed, raging lunatic. I BEGGED to get a lower dosage and threatened to stop all together. Dr reluctantly lowered the dosage and I feel normal but tired, tired ALL the time. My next appt is coming up and know the dr will want to increase my dosage. Is there anything else I can take or do?
Avatar n tn Severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; flushing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue; unusual hoarseness); changes in appetite; changes in menstrual periods; chest pain; diarrhea; excessive sweating; fast or irregular heartbeat; fever; heat intolerance; joint pain; leg cramps; mental or mood changes (eg, anxiety, irritability, nervousness); muscle weakness; seizures; severe or persistent headache or fatigue; shortness of breath;
Avatar f tn Started on Friday on levothyroxine, 50mg. the first day and all four days have had severe headache; the pain goes into the back of my neck. In addition, I am dizzy; not 100% of the time, but most often when getting up suddenly, or moving around. The doctor told me to stop taking the Rx for four days and see if the symptoms stop. They seem to be dissipating after a day. What is different in the generic to the brand name that causes more reactions in people, and are mine common.
Avatar f tn Hello, I am 61 year old male in pretty good health. I was just (2 months) diagnosed with Hashimoto's disease by my new doctor during a comprehensive physical. He is highly regarded which is why I switched from prior doc. Hypothyroidism does not run in my family history. He prescribed 25mcg Synthroid & insisted I avoid the generic. Follow up test still showed no change in TS level so he increased dose to 50 w follow up in 3 mos. Cigna's drug service sent generic levothyroxine.
Avatar f tn ive been experiencing really weird reactions from the thyroid pill is their a better pill out there with no side effects that i can take im on now since the bad reactions with the 75 micro grams the covering of the pill i am allergic and very sensitive to th colring in the pil has anyone else experience these symptoms itching and hands burning to the point of they feel like they are on fire your blood pressure spiking too high on it can someone give me some feed back please
Avatar f tn If I get itchy from that too, then it probably is that I slowly developed an allergy to the levothyroxine. I will then try levoxyl which I understand is throxine (not levothyroxine??). Anyways, I will start off with the other compound pharmacy (with only T4 along with either tapioca powder, rice flour or potato starch which all three are natural fillers.
Avatar n tn I’ve had hypothyroidism for about 11 years now. I took Levothyroxine for a long time not really feeling much relief but my numbers were "within range". Then about 3 years ago, a Endocronologist told me I should increase the dose to see if I felt better so I started taking a higher dose. My results were still in range when I had them checked, but after about 1-2 months I developed severe hives. I thought it was from a fish I ate the night before.
Avatar f tn I started Nature- Throid about seven weeks ago. (I used to take Levothyroxine 75mg. ) My first dose was 3/4 grain. All was well the first week or so, but then I was fatigued and had random twinges and soreness in my breasts. I did a follow-up blood test and my T3 was 3, Free T4 was .89, and my TSH was 5.292. My Dr. raised my dosage to 1.25 grains.
393685 tn?1425812522 There has been new information released recently on the use of particular weight loss drugs and the use of Levothyroxine together. The specific weight loss medication is Alli ( which is the brand name for the medication Rx Orlistat) Orlistat is a drug that promotes fat-blocking - taken with meals to help block some of the fat -- and therefore fewer intake of calories -- from meals, and aids in some weight loss.
Avatar n tn Does anyone take Levothyroxine and if so, what do you think of it? I have heard different things. The doctor just got me started on meds and this is what he wrote. just checking on others thoughts.
Avatar f tn Serious reactions to Prograf are uncommon. Allergic reactions have been described but hives, although reported, must be quite rare. There have been many identified causes of Hives including a great variety of medications and physical causes (for example, sunshine). Despite comprehensive attempts to find the cause, the cause of a large percentage of cases of Hives is never found. Consultation with an allergist or dermatologist might be helpful.
Avatar n tn I was also going to add information about the fillers. Even through Synthroid is a "name brand" tablet - some people can have adverse reactions to this med too. Its what you find that works and stay with it. Many people ( for some reason) are developing lactose reactions. I am not sure if it has to do with the hormones being pumped into the cows more due to mass production of milk needed or what else is going on.
Avatar f tn "Common adverse reactions with levothyroxine therapy are primarily those of hyperthyroidism due to therapeutic overdosage".
Avatar f tn The thyroid is not likely the cause of the allergic swelling (anaphylactoid) reactions. However the TSH is high and a dose increase is needed likely to 125mcg of levothyroxine. It is not likely the body is attacking T4. Would first normalize TSH and not focus so much on T4 levels yet -- would also ask to work with a pediatric endocrinologist for the thyroid.
Avatar n tn and he said the rash on my face is eczema and the rash between my fingers is hyper something or other that is caused by stress. I had been off my meds (levothyroxine) for over a week when I noticed the itching in my ears first then the rash came on my hands and then the red whelpy rash with some fine bumps that itch like the dickens, on my inner and top of my thighs, buttocks, hips some on my back. Sometimes the rash moves around or goes away a little in some areas.
