Levothyroxine in pregnancy

Common Questions and Answers about Levothyroxine in pregnancy

synthroid

Avatar n tn in pregnancy tsh can be very low (something to do with estrogen binding to the hormone), without it being a concern. Target tsh, if you are on meds, is usually around 1 or less in pregnancy AND ft4 mid to upper of the normal range.
Avatar n tn Levothyroxine, also called L-thyroxine, is a synthetic form of thyroxine (thyroid hormone). In the United States, brand names include Synthroid, Levoxyl, Levothroid, Eltroxin, Tirosint and Unithroid; Generic forms are Levothyroxine sodium USP and L-thyroxine. There is still debate over whether generic thyroid supplements are as effective as thyroid brand name supplements.
Avatar n tn I had the same question and concern for an endocrinologist on Thurs., 2/26, and she said two things on this subject. 1) There is only one study about IQ and mother's TSH during pregnancy, and the study has been largely discredited due to have small sample and the way it was executed; 2) TSH level has most effect on baby in later pregnancy (believe third trimester). In my case, she's having my TSH checked every four weeks during pregnancy.
Avatar f tn Those were the same symptoms I had early on and I'm pregnant
Avatar f tn My hypothyroidism was identified right before my pregnancy - and it got REALLY bad during that pregnancy. In my case, it was difficult to diagnose because I had a normal TSH, but a low Free T4. Finally, in the past two years, I have begun to lose weight - I am down to 175 from 225, but it HAS been a struggle. However, I did not GAIN more weight after starting on Synthroid (except during my pregnancy, of course).
Avatar n tn Levothyroxine takes approximately 6 weeks to reach full potential in the blood. While your TSH is over range, it's the FT3 and FT4 levels that are the most important, since TSH is a pituitary hormone and can vary for a multitude of reasons, even intraday. When you get the results for the FT3 and FT4, please post them here, along with the reference ranges, which vary lab to lab and must come from your own report.
9766232 tn?1405758582 I have been treating still with Levothyroxine (25 mcg). I got married on June and now my pregnancy kit shows 2 red bars confirming my pregnancy. Today I have checked my Thyroid, the findings are as follow: T3 - 1.31 ng/ml T4 - 11.50 mg/dl TSH - 4.19 MIU/ml Now my questions are: 1) What is my current thyroid status? 2) What is effect of my TSH level on my Baby? 3) How much Levothyroxine dose I should take during my pregnancy to maintain my thyroid harmonal level?
Avatar f tn Wondering if anyone else has experienced allergic reaction or sensitivities to 134 mcg (blue) Synthroid, and if anyone has switched to Compounded Levothyroxine with Avicel as the filler and had a reaction to that filler. Also wondering if Compounded Levothyroxine would be as effective in managing hypothyroid symptoms as Synthroid, as after my total thyroidectomy in 2006 they started me on generic levothyroxine and it did not help, but the brand name Synthroid did help to improve my TSH levels.
Avatar f tn I understand exactly why it's a big deal for you when you're trying to conceive, however, it's not the levothyroxine that's causing your period to be late; it's being hypothyroid. 12.5 mcg of levothyroxine is a very small dose - basically a starter dose. Did your doctor indicate whether s/he might be planning to increase your dosage, after a certain amount of time?
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed in 2013, my current dose of levothyroxine is 50mcg and the reason it is this low a dose is because of the acacia in the Teva levothyroxine I have been prescribed. I am also planning to be pregnant. Any advice about how to proceed next would be welcome, thank you. JUNE-2018 (Lab comments - if planning pregnancy or already pregnant please discuss) TSH 2.65 (0.2 - 4.2) FREE T4 15.1 (12 - 22) FREE T3 3.2 (3.1 - 6.
7074596 tn?1387754708 Yes, Levoxyl is the same as Levothyroxine which is the generic name . Synthroid is the Brand name for Levothyroxine. So it is the same drug.
Avatar f tn Overtreatment with levothyroxine sodium may have adverse cardiovascular effects such as an increase in heart rate, cardiac wall thickness, and cardiac contractility and may precipitate angina or arrhythmias. I found this and I think maybe is necessery to reduce the dose. And I think you should consult your endocrinologist sooner than 14 may. Good luck.
Avatar n tn This may increase the risk of miscarriage and other pregnancy problems, including developmental delay in the child. Immediate intitiation of thyroid hormone (levothyroxine) is necessary at a full replacement dose (usually 2mcg/pound, sometimes more for pregnancy) and recheck levels to confirm it is not a lab error. Would discuss with your OBGYN and consider endocrine consult as well. Sometimes we send women to "high-risk" OB for more thorough evaluation in these cases.
Avatar n tn My OB perscribed 137mcg levothyroxine with another test in 6 weeks. I have a formal appt with her later this week. In themean time, a family friend suggested a chiropractor. I have never seen a chiropractor, so I was a little sceptical. He found some weird tender places in my neck and did a few adjustments that took all of 30 seconds. I walked out of there feeling better than I have in MONTHS! For the first time in a long time I had enough energy to give my 1.
Avatar m tn She rechecked his blood and discovered Hashimoto and changed the meds to levothyroxine 0.88mcg. He was feeling ok with the synthroid and now after 4 days of the levothyroxine he feels extremely exhausted and feels as if he is hallucinating (sp) during the day on several occasions. Bad dreams too. Any suggestions. He cannot even go to school today he is so tired.
269806 tn?1219877244 I have asked my dr and all he can say is go for it, you shouldnt have a problem but I have read on line and in books that with my age and health the chances of actually becoming pregnant are slim to none. any advice you have would be greatly appreciated!!!
Avatar f tn Doctor, I am hypothyroid, taking 25mcg of levothyroxine. I am now 6 weeks pregnant and wondering at what week I should have my doctor test my dosage. I understand that it is highly likely that my dosage level will need to be increased. I have also read that the majority of pregnant women see a change in TSH levels at about 8 weeks, but that it takes 4-6 weeks for the dose to "kick in." During this time, will it hurt the brain development of the baby?
1393562 tn?1280339068 I have been diagnosed with hypothyroidism and have been on 100mcg of levothyroxine daily. I am 22 weeks pregnant and wonder how and if this disease affects my baby?
1012319 tn?1251465964 This is a mild elevation in TSH that should be treated in the setting of pregnancy to achieve a goal of 0.3-2.0. Treatment should be with levothyroxine. At this TSH level, there is very low risk to fetal neurologic development, but it should be addressed/corrected.
Avatar n tn The pregnancy should not be effected by thyroid surgery and levothyroxine replacement which would follow thyroid gland removal. Would need to make sure levels are appropriate before trying to conceive. This is a common scenario. The main question is indication for thyroid surgery -- ie, suspicious biopsy, compressive symptoms, thyroid nodule over-activity....would make sure there is a clear indication before removing the thyroid.
Avatar f tn you must mean hypOthyroidism -- key with pregnancy is to adjust the levothyroxine (preferably a brand to ensure consistency in pregnancy) to keep TSH in the 0.3-2.0 range before and during pregnancy.
Avatar m tn Concerning thyroid hormone replacement there are mainly two types, levothyroxine and natural dessicated (NDT) one and also another like T3 only with mixing with levothyroxine etc. Levothyroxine is choose by most doctors but I think everyone should go on a trail on natural dessicated ones too at least for some 1 month and choose the one which gives them better feeling.
Avatar f tn hi im 28 yrs old i had total thyrodectomy in 2003 and radiation few months after, i had my thyroid test result i wasnt able to see my doc as i have a flight the next day. me and my husband is planning to have a baby. can anyone pls help me with my result ... i really appreciate your help ..tnx! test result: THS IRMA H 129.000 uIU/ml range 0.25 ~ 4 Thyroglobulin IRMA 0.
Avatar n tn hello. is it safe to take methylsulphonylmethane supplements and levothyroxine? do you guys ever heard of any interaction between those? Im taking cranberry pills aswell i would like to hear from you if cranberry interact with levo, or theres no need to be worried here....
Avatar n tn In 2005 I had my thyroid removed due to cancer (also took radioactive iodine). I am currently taking Levothyroxine and am 5.5 weeks pregnant. I had my TSH tested yesterday and my level was 0.34 and I am concerned because with my first pregnancy I had to increase my dose right away. But, according to my levels this time my dose can stay the same. Should I be worried that my TSH hasn't started creeping up, requiring more thryoid hormone replacement?
Avatar m tn Oroxine (original) and Eutroxsig (generic). They are both packed the same. There are 200 tablets in each box. The doses are, 200mcg, 100mcg, 75mcg (a recently introduced dose which the ATF lobbied), and 50mcg. They are packed in blister strips, plastic and foil. Because of the climate in Australia, the tablets must be kept in the refrigerator and are stored in the refrigerator at the pharmacist.
