Levothyroxine hypothyroid

Common Questions and Answers about Levothyroxine hypothyroid

synthroid

Avatar f tn I was told I have elevated thyroid autoantibodies. I take 125mcg Levo a day and have been on this dosage since February but lately I've been feeling like not wanting to do very much, more tired and pale, dark heavy periods and I find myself going to the toilet and passing small hard stools 2 to 3 times a day even though my diet is healthy and I drink lots of water.
Avatar n tn People taking levothyroxine frequently remain too low in the range for the biologically active thyroid hormones Free T4 and Free T3. Even when the dose is high enough to raise Free T4 to the top of its range, frequently the Free T3 will remain too low in its range to relieve symptoms. When hypothyroid the patient often does not produce adequate stomach acid to absorb vitamins and nutrients well. The result is low Vitamin D, B12 and ferritin (iron).
720656 tn?1311040235 but your levothyroxine is best taken first thing in the morning on an empty stomach with lots of water. Then it would be best to wait to take the omeprazole as it inhibits stomach acid..so may adversely affect taking the levo.. It might take a few TSH tests to get the amt. of levo. right as your body adjusts to it.....ideally your level should be at about .4--3 mu/L . Hope that helps some..
Avatar f tn I'm hypothyroid (for 20 years now), taking levothyroxine, but have had fairly regular periods for quite a few years. For the first 5-10 years they weren't regular at all.
Avatar f tn Do I take Levothyroxine when my TSH is 0.66, total T4 is 5.6 and T3 uptake is 33.4%? I think I might be hyperthyroid, not hypothyroid. I have to take metoclopramide for stomach dilation and I take Diazapam plus other meds on the very long list of containdicated medications. Does anyone know?
Avatar f tn I have gone to see my endo dr a few times and have had my medication adjusted each time. I had taken 75 mcg of Levothyroxine and 5 mcg of Liothyronine. Because of my last blood results, my liothyronie dosage has been increased to 25mcg. My most current TSH was found at 22.5 and the reference is .450-4.5. My T3 & T4 have been within normal range. I should add that my prolactin level has been extremely high as well 32.7 and the reference states it should be anywhere from 4.5 to 23.3.
Avatar f tn Wondering if anyone else has experienced allergic reaction or sensitivities to 134 mcg (blue) Synthroid, and if anyone has switched to Compounded Levothyroxine with Avicel as the filler and had a reaction to that filler. Also wondering if Compounded Levothyroxine would be as effective in managing hypothyroid symptoms as Synthroid, as after my total thyroidectomy in 2006 they started me on generic levothyroxine and it did not help, but the brand name Synthroid did help to improve my TSH levels.
Avatar m tn I've been taking hypothyroid medication for three years and since I've been losing hair. Is it the medication? I've tried levothyroxine, synthroid, and levothyroid. I'm taking 88mcg of levothyroxine. Doctor said it could be prednisone. I would like to stop taking it, I'm just wondering if hydrocortisone has the same side effects as prednisone.
Avatar m tn The test they probably did with a result of 52.2 was probably TSH, and it's high, not low. High TSH means you have low thyroid hormone levels... sounds crazy, huh? TSH stands for Thyroid Stimulating Hormone and it's a pituitary hormone that stimulates the thyroid to make thyroid hormones, T4 and T3.
Avatar n tn I was misdiagnosed with Hypothyroidism and took Levothyroxine for 11 mths. I stopped taking Levothyroxine three months ago, and my TSH is now 2x the initial level prior to taking thyroid medication. My Free T4 was and is within the normal range. Can being on the medication permanently suppress/reduce thyroid function? Would you expect the TSH will return to normal, and how long should I wait?
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with hypothyroid less then a week ago and started taking Levothyroxine 50mcg and 2 hrs after I take the meds my heart races and feels like its literally going to pound its way out of my chest. I phoned my Dr with my concerns and she told me that it takes time for your body to adjust and to keep taking it until I'm re-tested in 6 weeks. My chest now hurts and I am afraid to take the meds. Anyone else have this issue?
Avatar f tn I am 33 years old and I would like to know if people under 50 can have this condition. Can hypothyroid conditions come and go over the years while others remain or do they all have to appear all at once? I have had cold hands and feet but I don't have that problem, but I still have fatigue and I am trying to lose weight.
Avatar f tn Often we use levothyroxine during severe hypothyroid phases of thyroidits then taper off the medication -- this can be a bumpy ride for many patients, but usually with time, the levels stabilize but this may take several weeks. We usually recheck levels 4-6 weeks after stopping meds to confirm normal. The nausea and dizziness are not typical thyroid symptoms. Would continue to discuss with your doctor to make sure nothing else is going on.
Avatar f tn At first - I doubt you will notice much change, but as time goes by and you are clearly become hypothyroid, you definately start to feel very ill.
Avatar m tn my husband found out he had hypothrodism in january of 2013 he started on levothyroxine in febuary . He started at 25mcg then up to 50mcg then 100mcg his last blood test his levels were at 6.28 so they raised it to 125mcg .. before he started the medicine he had lots of energy was always in a good mood we never had a fight ..
Avatar f tn gov/pmc/articles/PMC1341585/ In this study 148 hypothyroid patients were classified as clinically hypothyroid, euthyroid, or hyperthyroid. They were tested for TSH, Free T4 and Free T3. Of the 148 patients 108 were classified clinically as hypothyroid. their TSH ranged from .1 - 19.7. Of the 22 patients classified clinically as euthyroid, the TSH ranged from .1 - 14.4. The remaining 18 patients were classified clinically as hyperthyroid. Their TSH ranged from .1 - 123.5.
Avatar f tn Both your labs and symptoms indicate that you are still hypo and need an increase in your levothyroxine. Anxiety and panic attacks are also symptoms of being hypothyroid. How long have you been on the 50 mcg levothyroxine? If it's been more than 6 - 8 weeks, you ask your doctor for an increase.
Avatar f tn In some cases of heart rhythm disorders, even normal amounts of thyroid hormone may be aggravating - but the thyroid is not the primary culprit - these patients seem to have less heart issues with lowering the thyroid dose, but they become hypothyroid (which I believe protects the heart temporarily, but does not prove the thyroid was the underlying problem).
Avatar f tn For many people those results would be too low to avoid hypothyroid symptoms. As long as you do not have hypothyroid symptoms I see nothing to be concerned about. If you should start having hypo symptoms, then you would need to increase your daily dosage of Levothyroxine, which you have not told us about yet.
Avatar n tn The range dropped after they excluded from the data base patients who were suspect hypothyroid. So, a TSH of 5.0 is in the hypothyroid range and if confirmed by further testing and by your symptoms, probably will result in your doctor prescribing some thyroid medication for you. I say probably because in the wonderful world of thyroid, you can never be sure of what diagnosis you will get from your doctor.
497348 tn?1283436066 Yeah I am taking levothyroxine and celexa... I was just once on levothyroxine and it really messed with me just because I am hypothyroid and you need to take that medication. So your body is not used to it so in a sense you are going hyperthyroid right now because you were so used to running low... So yeah... how do you feel right now?
Avatar m tn My Angiotensin-1 converting enzyme elevation is high.I'm hypothyroid patient and also Fibromyalgia. My current medications are Levothyroxine 75mcg and Lyrica 75mg. I'm checking If any one with Hypothyroid condition has this enzyme high (above 69).
Avatar n tn I was retested 3 months later and it had come down on its own to 7.27. As I am trying to concive my doctor prescribed 50mcg Levothyroxine and I started taking this in September 07. My TSH was retested again in Nov 07 and it was at 1.56, tested again in April 08 and it was 1.72, and again in July 08 and it was 2.62. I took Clomid between April - June 08 and it didn't seem to agree with me - made me lighheaded etc.
Avatar n tn levothyoxine for 2-1/2 yr. My TSH(0.03) was low so I was put on Levothyroxine 112 mcg. I still had a low TSH(0.05) so I wound up on 100 mcg. On this dose my blood pressure went up and so did my pulse; I also got slight edema in my ankles. I told my family physician I thought 100 mcg. was too low, and begged her to allow me to go back on 112 mcg. She allowed me to stay on 112 mcg. until I can see an endocrinologist. Doesn't 100 mcg.
Avatar m tn This may be a hypothyroid phase from a transient thyroiditis given the recent viral infection. It is reasonable to support the patient with 50mcg of levothyroxine during this phase and watch thyroid levels carefully to determine trend and the need for long-term levothyroxine (as well as dose titration) due to permanent hypothyroidism (ie, if it is not a transient thyroiditis).
Avatar f tn I have been gaining a lot of weight and totally not myself in terms of personality and attitude! I was finally diagnosed hypothyroid last month (tsh was 10.9 normal range being 1 to 4.4 ) and was prescribed 0.05 mg of levothyroxine. I have been taking it for 2 weeks now , 1 at week I felt a little better. But this week my weight started shooting up again my stomach is bloated and I am getting headaches and feeling very dizzy .
5054005 tn?1362922551 Since you were put on Levothyroxine previously I assume you were diagnosed as hypothyroid. So now you have been diagnosed as hyperthyroid??? I expect it is because you were tested for TSH and it came back as suppressed. Is that the case?
