Avatar f tn However, in the past two years I have now had some pretty bad brushes with bronchitis and now am fighting a nearly month-old issue with coughing and head congestion. My doctor prescribed prednisone, Symbicort, and also wants to give me Levaquin. I am over 55 years old, and I also have pre-diabetes (6.0 A1C - and am on metformin), and high blood pressure being successfully treated via Benicar.

Avatar m tn He has had 4 pneumonias in 8 weeks since everytime he has first put on Levaquin. We just got home, he got his first oral treatment of Levaquin, 500 on Friday, This time as any other, first 24 hours he is mostly unresponsive. Then regains. I went to get the prescription and got a 5 page warning letter. My husband at 5'10 "is barely 130 lbs. First time coming to the hospital his potassium level was 3.3. Last admission only 3.1 that was raised to 3,7 in the hospital by intravenius.
1137036 tn?1263515995 I never really felt 100% better and then last Friday I started having ear pain and little fever. So I started myself on Levaquin 500 mg a day. Felt better next day but it does not seeming to be going away, now on my 4th day of Leviquin. Plus my throat clearing and post nasal drip has never gone away 100% either.
Avatar n tn about them, and he said it was erythema nodosum as a result of an allergic reaction to Levaquin. However, since then I've had minor difficulty breathing. I'm an asthmatic, so that's not abnormal, but still... Any help would be appreciated.
Avatar f tn Yes it definitely could be Lyme, as the others said, you need to be tested at a good, reputable lab. Also I saw you were given the antibiotic Levaquin which along with Cipro, are fluroquinilones (sp?) and can "flox' you. People are known to suffer horrible effects from those meds; my sister is one who was floxxed very badly. Those antibiotics have been black boxed Twice in the US by the FDA. Google Cipro and Levaquin lawsuits or black box warnings or permanent damage caused by...
Avatar n tn My head hurt so badly that I was crying and had to use an ice pack to help ease the pain. My doctor gave me Levaquin (10 days), another 7 day supply of Prednisone, and Lortab 10mg. The Lortab helped a good bit with my misery, but I could still feel all the pressure in my head, even on such a strong pain killer. 5 days after the second treatment, I woke up with another horendous headache.
Avatar m tn This occurred while I had a sinus infection which was treated with levaquin and prednisone. The tendonitis was diagnosed by my PCP, who recommended reduced activity. After about 3 months of non-recovery, I saw an orthopedist who started me on physical therapy. The physical therapy was non-effective. Around this time I developed another sinus infection. It was initially thought to be pressure headaches, and a long 3 week taper of prednisone was prescribed.
1580703 tn?1651904887 s 600-625 for a few weeks. when I took prednisone and solumedrol I came down with sore throat and a bad infection that didn't respond to antibiotics and lasted 1 month. I am still wheezing several months later. what could have caused this and what can I do to treat it? the doctor seems to say it is due to vocal chord problems. I noticed on 40-50mg of prednisone a day my FVC increased from 70 to 80. thanks so much!
Avatar f tn 8g of mesalamine and 60mg of prednisone. After that they put him on 1.6g of mesalamine and 40g of prednisone. It worked for couple of weeks but now he started having fever at night so they put him on 2.4g of mesalamine and 40mg of prednisone. Will see how this one works. This has been the 3rd night on this dosage. I feel like this dr are not caught up on their readings. There are so many studies that say that higher dosage of mesalamine works better on flare ups.
Avatar f tn Hi! I hope someone can help me. I have had a numb scalp (hair loss also, may not be related, but..figure that if I am not possibly getting blood to my scalp, then hair loss makes sense), tinnitus, numb ears, numb face, lack of ability to taste most foods, photophobia is also an issue. I had cervical disc fusion in 10/2008, and wonder if there is a compressed nerve (Neurosurgeon refuses to follow up)..I had bone spurs also and stenosis.
Avatar m tn Well, if you goal is to help somebody, you have done it with me. Well done and I am very grateful. Now we must do something about your user name...how about, "Healthy and Hearty." Gee, 48 hours without flecainide and I'm still on sinus rhythm. I feel like hell with this ear infection and the Levaquin, but so far, so good. I am keeping my journal daily and I won't bore you with a day to day synopsis, but I would like to help you in return. I am a good listener.
Avatar n tn I think you need at least a week off the prednisone. That is a half-____ guess.I wouldad that allphysicians treat with prednisone plus antibiotics. My opinion is this is going in two different directions.I am not going to go into "tapeting off".Ending theprednisone will cause immediate excessmucus which can be dealth with by the inhaler. Initially you may need an hourly treatment. Maybe for the first six hours. Go to every six hours as soon as possible.
17484539 tn?1580565249 I'm down with acute bronchitis which I get every 2-3 years and which normally lasts 1-2 weeks & then I'm symptom-free. i'm on a round of Levaquin 7 days) and prednisone short term (5 days) covid test negative and no pneumonia, however on the chest X-ray was written "signs of COPD changes." What the heck does that mean and how is COPD really diagnosed? I'm an ex-smoker, stopped in 1982.
Avatar f tn My prior medical history is gastroparesis (of unknown etiology) and was just recently treated for a sinus infection with Levaquin 750 mg for 5 days. I was also very nauseous and dizzy today for several hours. Had a vague pain behind my eyes. Any thoughts?
Avatar m tn I was then getting a lot of allergies and post nasal and was then coughing. Doctor prescribed Prednisone,Zithromax, Acyclovir [for cold sores] and Clindamycin cap 300 mg for sinus infection. Just lately I got acid reflux.... hard to swallow... even when I did it was bad... slight burning to severe burning feeling on the left hand side of my mid upper chest area. I went back again to see the doctor who told me the coughing, wheezing [which now both had stopped...

Avatar m tn t work so I tried a different antibiotic. Those didnt work either so finally he gave me Levaquin. It cleared it up for a little while, but I still had the swelling in my neck and the pain behind my ear. So I went to see my dentist because I thought maybe my wisdom tooth is putting pressure on my sinus cavity. When he pulled my tooth, my nose started to run like a faucet and I felt relief. But about a month later I had the swelling again so I went to my doc who prescribed my prednisone.
Avatar f tn I went to the dr. today and was dx with a UTI. I am pretty sure I just have a UTI but if for whatever I have an STD will the Levaquin that I am taking for my UTI cure chlamydia or gonorhea? I am taking 500mg for 6 days. Please help me. This discussion is related to Levaquin for Chlamydia/Gonorrhea.
Avatar f tn I need help please. My doctors had me on Levaquin for 4 years straight. I believe it's destroyed most of my immune system. Since being off Levaquin for the past few months, I have had chronic bronchitis and pneumonia since. My muscles and body is in agony. I now have to use oxygen all the time, day and night. The recovery times from surgeries are greatly extended now. I'm having another back surgery in a few weeks.
Avatar m tn Yes, before I became allergic to the stuff I did recall feeling quite a bit of joint pain with that class of medication. I used to take care of patients who were placed on levaquin for infection and noted that they would sometimes get what we nurses called "The Levaquin Shuffle". The affected patients would walk in a shuffle and complain of joint pain especially in the knees. In my case, yes, the pain did go away after a bit.
Avatar n tn With all that said, in the future, whether he can afford the ER or not, it's a good idea to have any new chest pain evaluated. The finances can be worked out later, the effects of a heart attack may not give any other option. And, yes, caregiver, I prefer Cipro to Levaquin because of the cost difference.
Avatar f tn I keep having blood pressure spikes, hot flashes, and night sweats. I also have excessive sweating under the arms, the palms of my hands and the soles of my feet. My normal blood pressure is about 110/60 and when it spikes it is about 160/100. I get a bad headache and I feel like my face is on fire. I have devoloped brown spots on my forehead. I feel tired all the time and I have no appetite. I have lost 23 pounds in the last 2 months. I don't know what is causing all of this.
Avatar m tn My last CT scan was clear, after 42 days of prednisone and 2 rounds of Levaquin. Then I got a cold and I am back to square one. I went to the dentist for my check up and had him check to make sure I didn't have a dental abcess. No abcess, but the x ray did show that my right maxillary sinus was "cloudy." The whole right side of my face hurts. I am not sleeping at night, and have now cracked 3 teeth - despite a night guard - from clenching because of the pain.
Avatar n tn WBC were normal, along with no fever. He also was on Bentyl, Prednisone, and Levaquin, and the pain still persisted, so GI ruled out any infections (saying all the meds would've killed any infection) The GI doc he saw Thurs palpitated his abdomen, and said it was very tender. He has an endo and colo on Monday, so I really hope they find something wrong. If anyone else has comments, I'd really be appreciatative.
Avatar m tn Do not take Levaquin for a sore throat. The drug is a class called fluoroquinalones, and the side effects may include anything from aches and pains for months to tendon rupture. If a fluoroquinalone is prescribed Cipro has far fewer side effects.
Avatar m tn I could see that you have been a bit over dosed with Levaquin 500 mg ,taking 4-6 tabs per day and for three days. For an infection like strep throat its better to start with drugs like Cephalosporins or pencillins and azithromycin or Co trimox. As drug like Levaquin has more fatal side effects I think its better you switch off to other broad spectrum antibiotics like said above.Stop using Levaquin now.Its not that long that you have severe adverse effects,so better change the prescription.
