levaquin for uti dose

I've been taking 500mg. of Levaquin for 4 days for a uti. Nasty side effects. I wanted to know if I can cut the pills in half. Would taking 250mg. be as effective? All the symptoms of my uti are gone. I was supposed to take the pills for 7 days and I stopped after 4 because of side effects.

Had an UTI and hence was put on levaquin. After the 8th day of taking levaquin, i had the problem of not able to swallow food.. Stopped levaquin and UTI went away. Since then, i had a feeling that something is stuck in throat and particularly at nites, i was not able to sleep properly. had mylanta and prilosec and the situation got improved.. doctor recommended aciphex and currently i am on that..

later tonight and let you know if it happens again ... I only have 2more to take .. was on a 7 day dose for this UTI and under care of great Uro, too ... I will take my Synthroid as scheduled tomorrow and not mess with dosing ... just my anger taking over on prev. post.

I'm getting a bit scared lately... I have been battling a recent UTI. I used to get them a lot when I was younger but haven't had one in about 2- 3 years. Anyway, took levaquin 500mg for about a week and felt much better then 4 days later it hit again. Did the AZO testing which tested positive for nitrate so went back on Levaquin and after two days of taking it I wasn't getting much relief so I went to my doctor.

My urologist however when asked for the dx will not give me an answer whether i have IC or not as I had these symptoms last year but went away after the cystoscopy which afterwards was given a dose of Levaquin 500mg. This year had the same symptoms and wanted to be ruled out for IC. It has been 4wks. after the procedure as I still have stinging upon urination. I took a dose of Levaquin 500mg 4wks. After my hydro and my symptoms were completely gone for 2 days. I had normal voiding.

I have chronic bladder infections and on long term Macrobid and still get frequent UTIs. I have had 3+ bacteria for the last 2 months despite Cipro and Levaquin. This morning the UTI is back with burning, frequency. They did not do a C&S before Cipro I think because it is always e-coli. What could be wrong with these 2 meds not working?....I am so tired of this pain and burning. I also have had lower back pain and groin pain for the last 2 mos.

yes i can tell you i will never take levaquin again either , i have took the 500 lots of times but i took the 750 and 4 hours after i took it , my body went crazy i was having panic attacks one after another and could not sleep for 24 hours until it got out of my body, if you google this drug you will see so many who have had problems with it , its not a good drug but i took many times for a uti, no more for me, the 750 was way to much and now i will not take the 500 after that, yes i belive it

Unfortunately I had to start a course of Levaquin for a sinus infection and UTI. I am scheduled to complete the course of Levaquin on Tuesday, February 5. Is it safe to try to get pregnant on Friday, February 8. I have not started any prenatal vitamins, is it foolish to start prenatal vitamins along with the Levaquin or should I have been taking these a few months beforehand?

I was on Levaquin for 10 days for a sinus infection. Have severe joint pain in both knees and shoulders. Hurts to walk, and cannot move my arms above my head. Stopped taking Levaquin on Monday and is now Wednesay and pain is still unbelievable. Does anyone know how long the pain will last and is there any way to get the pain to go away sooner? My doctor said I should feel better in a couple of days.

35 yr old male. with a history of UTI's, approx 2/yr. Symptoms were slight sensitivity in lower abdomen but no burning during urination - I know the feeling so went to the doc very early. Urine test at doc's was negative. Prescribed Levaquin 250mg 1/day for 14 days. On my last incidence, approx. 6 months ago, went to doc with same symptoms, based on physical exam doc confirmed prostatitis (slight enlarged and "squishy"), prescribed antibiotics.

I'm a 31 female and have had 20 uti's in the past 2yr. Recently I had 3 uti's in one month. Each uti becomes more painful than the last (dysuria, pain in lower abd). I have cultures done on all UA's and all result in lacotbacilli growth only. I have tried a daily dose of macrobid, urination after sex, increase in fluid intake, cranberry tabs, and every thing else that my doctor has told me to do.

after taking Levaquin 500 mg for 2 days I had a sudden onset of stiffness at inner rt thigh. after 1 hr could not put any weight on rt leg. numb spots bilateral calves. I stopped Levaquin and contacted my dr. who changed the antibiotic and told me to take motrin for the inflammation and explained that tendon rupture was rare on Levaquin. This is day 4 I'm walking with a slight limp due to stiffness inner thigh and weight bearing.

I went to my doctor two days later and he gave me levaquin for 10 days. Ever since the incident I have had a mild burning in the tip of my penis. It is not always there. Last night I used a massager on my penis to masturbate and now it is burning really bad. Any help would be appreciated. Went back to the doctor today and he gave me 1g of azyrthmician(sp). He also ran a std check.

I took Tussionex for the first time at 11:00 pm after I took a Levaquin at 10:00 pm. I have bronchitis. I awoke suddenly from my sleep at 2:00 am and had no breath - and could not speak or call my husband although I was trying to say 'help'. I got my breath back after a minute or so and was pretty shaken up by this. I'm very tired but reluctant to go back to sleep if it happens again. I was pretty shaken up. So I had unprotected sex with a woman about two weeks ago. I got symptoms that resemble chlamydia or gonorrhea (frequent urination, weird feelin in the tip of my penis) so I took levaquin 750mg tabs once a day for five days. If all else fails, may be worthwhile going after the stone . In some women a cause for UTI’s is never found, in which case a daily dose of an antibiotic (usually Macrodantin/ Septra/Trimethroprim) is tried. As this last treatment was a problem for you, you may need to keep an antibiotic at home and take a short course when your symptoms flare. I would get a CT urogram if nothing is found beforehand. I've been on 500mg. of Levaquin for 4 days and I'm having difficulty breathing. Not all the time at times it's just hard to catch my breath without doing anything too physical. Has anyone else had this side effect?

i'm a little confused....first, why did you go to the er for a uti instead of your pcp? that aside, you're headache could be related to your medication, but it could also just be a chiari h/a that has gone full blown and now you are stressing out over it and that will make it worse! just try to calm yourself down a bit. go lay on your bed with a heating pad on the back of your head and close your eyes for a bit. take some nice, deep, long breaths and see if that helps! hope it does!
