Avatar f tn They did mono spot which was negative at that time. Had mono 15 years ago, nothing like this. rash still getting worse despite being off lamotrigine for 3 days now, so truly wondering if it has anything to do with it. Its looks and feels like the worst uneven sunburn of my life. Last time I had mono I had positive rapid strep tests. This time they did rapid strep test and negative. If it is mono does it have to have a positive strep test? Thanks again. Ill talk to my gp mon.
Avatar f tn i was just wanting to know if lamotrigine and quetiapine can cause sore throats I've been taking these meds for 4 days and I started getting sick after day 2
Avatar n tn is it safe to take lamotrigine when u have hepatitis c? My psychiatrist just started me on 25 mg..is it safe for my liver..I'm not being treated for my hep c..any info will help..
Avatar f tn Tell your doctor if you are taking valproic acid (Depakene) or divalproex (Depakote) because taking these medications with lamotrigine may increase your risk of developing a serious rash. Also tell your doctor if you have ever developed a rash after taking lamotrigine or any other medication for epilepsy or if you are allergic to any medications for epilepsy. Your doctor will start you on low dose of lamotrigine and gradually increase your dose, not more than once every 1 to 2 weeks.
5544493 tn?1369608788 Well, as thatquietgirl said, it really depends on the individual. Part of it also depends on whether you're BP I or II, and whether your main problems are depression, mania, or a lot of both, and whether you have psychosis in the mix. Lamotrigine and carbamazepine are generics, for the record, and Abilify and Seroquel are still under patent and so there aren't any generics yet.
Avatar m tn The big one to watch out for is the risk of a severe and potentially dangerous rash. If Lamotrigine is ramped up very slowly, that risk is greatly diminished. Good luck!
Avatar f tn Has anyone been givin lamotrigine for panic attacks and anxiety, and did it work and what were the side effects i take xanax but my doctor dosent want me on that long term and now he tryin this..
505907 tn?1258369340 However, skin rash occurs in 10% of patients treated with lamotrigine and the risk of rash is related to rapid dose escalation and concomitant use of valproate. In approximately 1% of those that develop rash, it can progress to Stevens-Johnson syndrome or toxic epidermal necrolysis, both of which can be life threatening.
3140085 tn?1342843508 Lamictal is generic in the US... lamotrigine is the generic name. I wouldn't try lamotrigine without a doctor as it has to be increased very slowly due to the risk of the Stevens-Johnson rash.
Avatar n tn Hi I was wondering if anyone has ever has an adverse reaction to Lamotrigine i.e. breaking out in rash, very itchy, red patches all over skin? I'm afraid to try other drugs due to this? Any suggestions? Thanks!
Avatar n tn Been taking Lamictal "slowly " for 2 1/2 weeks ---I believe I am starting a slight rash ...don't feel it...but... how do I know when to seek medical attention?
899491 tn?1243773627 I'm blaming all of this on my menopause which is not a bad thing. Since our kids are grown and somewhat out of the house I can spend more time with my husband. We are taking more trips together knowing our house will be in good hands with our kids. They don't party and do stupid things. My daughter works all the time and my son just hangs around to play his drums. It's a good time for them to travel too.
Avatar f tn Did they diagnose you BP I or II? For BP II, the consensus I've seen from a few psychiatrists as well as patients, is that lamotrigine (Lamictal) is the best med to try first for BP II. It's approved for BP I as maintenance, but it doesn't have so much anti-manic activity. It's great for depression. I'm on lamotrigine for BP II, now at 200 mg, and it's done wonders.
1895346 tn?1321305844 When I went to our community clinic they took me off of lithium because I was losing my hair and the clonipin because it COULD be misused. and put on serequel which I was told would help all my symptoms. It did not. Now I can't drive, hell I can't even leave my house. I sleep 2 or 3 hours per night and not all at once. My anxiety is so bad that I don't even answer my phone because I don't know who it is. My world is my house and my phone conversations with my kids.
1310468 tn?1274863925 Lamotrigine and some other anti-convulsant medications are approved for maintenance treatment in bipolar I disorder, because they have something to do with altering the excitability threshold of certain neurons. We're not yet entirely sure how that helps to control mood instability in bipolar disorder, but they are proven to be very effective in this regard. The good thing about lamotrigine in particular is that it can also have an anti-depressant on top of the mood stabilization!
Avatar f tn Since being on lamotrigine I have had broken sleep and weird dreams- anyone else had this? ALso at the moment I'm waking in early hours with tingling/itching in my feet. I have tried alsorts to relive it- the best I have found is to get and ice pack from the freezer and put that on. I hope freezing my feet doesn't do any harm! I think I'm going to gradually come off the lamotrigine cos it hasn't made any difference to my symptoms anyway.
Avatar f tn s accounts? One, it seemed to stem from lamotrigine. Two, no one has ever said that the symptoms worsen with activity or lack of sleep. Three, it causes me added mental issues such as feelings of mania and anger in desparation. I get in these moods where I just want to be abbrasive and destructive and malicious because, quite honestly, it's torture. I cant hold a job and no one believes me when i say it's literally so overwhelming that I can hardly function when it's happening.
1806584 tn?1316208037 Hi, I'm bipolar I and have been on antipsychotics for little over a year now. Within a few weeks I'll be tapering off Abilify with the help of my pdoc. I'm happy about it, but I still wonder what your experiences have been with lamotrigine (Lamictal) as a monotherapy for bipolar I. I'd really hate to get manic again, but I also feel that Abilify is holding me back in my studies. Any tips and suggestions?
Avatar f tn First I noticed a burning feeling on the skin on different areas followed by a heavy flu, fever etc, then a rash was visible.. The doctor wanted me to quit the medicine immediately because I had a hypersensitive drug reaction. When I look at pictures on the web of rash from hypersensitive reaction it looks just like the one I had.
Avatar f tn Only a few interactions between lamotrigine and other drugs have been identified. Lamotrigine increases the plasma level of carbamazepine and its metabolites. Carbamazepine lowers the concentration of lamotrigine in the blood. Valproate doubles the plasma level of lamotrigine, and the level of valproate is decreased by about 25% in people taking lamotrigine. Phenobarbital and primidone lower the plasma level of lamotrigine by about 40%.
Avatar m tn there is a drug called colanadine that can help with the WD symptoms. lots of hot baths ,OTC pain meds for aches or pains doctor may be willing to give u a muscle relaxer to help as well.Make sure any time you take a new med read the info from the pharmacist the paperwork in there states can happen and you should taper off to avoid some of the wd ..
1756969 tn?1332437163 ve been taking Lamotrigine for over a year. It caused no changes in my weight or appetite. And I swear by the medication.
Avatar f tn I think they're confused. If you read the full prescribing information, it's the PILL that screws with the lamotrigine, not the other way around. It's not like a lot of other anticonvulsants. From http://epilepsy.med.nyu.edu/treatment/medications/lamotrigine "Lamotrigine has no effect on other seizure medicines. And unlike some other seizure medicines, it does not reduce the effectiveness of birth control pills.
Avatar n tn I just spent a half hour describing my symptoms and questions, only to have lost them due to one single press of the wrong button. ANYWAY, my question is: I was taking Lamictal (anti-seizure medicine) while getting ECT treatments. SHOULD I HAVE BEEN TAKEN OFF LAMICTAL BEFORE THE INDUCED SEIZURES? I am experiences extreme memory loss and cognitve function. Unable to speak articulately since the ECT. It doesn't make sense that I would be on an anti seizure medicine.
1756969 tn?1332437163 It is unlikely that the symptoms are caused by lamotrigine as you are not on an effective dose yet. So, since the dose is low it can't stop the depression from coming on that is caused by your bipolar. Lamotrigine is not known for causing depression. The lowest dose usually seen as effective is 200mg. But, with this drug you have to increase it slowly. Give it more time and get up to a therapeutic dose. I take lamotrigine - 200mg -- and it has worked well for me with no side effects.
Avatar n tn I started taking Lamotrigine shortly before this started. I also have had a burning tongue, and no sense of taste for almost a year. Any suggestions? I've tried about twenty different products, but NO results!
967145 tn?1247497890 A lot of meds have scary things attached to them. It is good to know these things even though it is scary. I am on Lamotrigine (generic) or Lamictle. The first thing my doctor said to me was, "This medicine can cause a rash that can be fatal. Don't worry, though, it is very rare and mostly happens if you raise your dose too quickly. But, if you get a rash of any kind stop the medication right away and call me." Wow!
