Lamotrigine and rash

Common Questions and Answers about Lamotrigine and rash

lamictal

Avatar f tn Tell your doctor if you are taking valproic acid (Depakene) or divalproex (Depakote) because taking these medications with lamotrigine may increase your risk of developing a serious rash. Also tell your doctor if you have ever developed a rash after taking lamotrigine or any other medication for epilepsy or if you are allergic to any medications for epilepsy. Your doctor will start you on low dose of lamotrigine and gradually increase your dose, not more than once every 1 to 2 weeks.
Avatar f tn Been off lamotrigine for 2 days but rash is getting worse. Now it feels like burning and pins and needles. My lips and inside my mouth feel fat and scratched up. any ideas. The nurse practioner isnt inspiring confidence. Couple of people have said to go to the ER but , no offense, I.hate hospitals and not a fan of doctors. just wondering what to look for in Terms of when to go to ER. Or just give it more time to get out of my system. I also take buspar and temazapam.
Avatar n tn is it safe to take lamotrigine when u have hepatitis c? My psychiatrist just started me on 25 mg..is it safe for my liver..I'm not being treated for my hep c..any info will help..
Avatar f tn Only a few interactions between lamotrigine and other drugs have been identified. Lamotrigine increases the plasma level of carbamazepine and its metabolites. Carbamazepine lowers the concentration of lamotrigine in the blood. Valproate doubles the plasma level of lamotrigine, and the level of valproate is decreased by about 25% in people taking lamotrigine. Phenobarbital and primidone lower the plasma level of lamotrigine by about 40%.
5544493 tn?1369608788 re BP I or II, and whether your main problems are depression, mania, or a lot of both, and whether you have psychosis in the mix. Lamotrigine and carbamazepine are generics, for the record, and Abilify and Seroquel are still under patent and so there aren't any generics yet. Anyway, lamotrigine (brand name Lamictal) is one of the best for BP II where depression is the main issue, although it's approved for BPI.
Avatar m tn The big one to watch out for is the risk of a severe and potentially dangerous rash. If Lamotrigine is ramped up very slowly, that risk is greatly diminished. Good luck!
Avatar f tn Has anyone been givin lamotrigine for panic attacks and anxiety, and did it work and what were the side effects i take xanax but my doctor dosent want me on that long term and now he tryin this..
Avatar f tn I really feel better mentally, no depression or pain, with lamotrigine, and I am so sad that I might have to give it up. I just saw my doctor yesterday and since it is February, she thinks that may be it is just a stomach virus... I need to live my life without having to pull over at gas station rest areas constantly! If this is caused by the lamotrigine, will I "adjust" and the diarrhea go away, or am I just really too sensitive to this medication?
505907 tn?1258369340 However, skin rash occurs in 10% of patients treated with lamotrigine and the risk of rash is related to rapid dose escalation and concomitant use of valproate. In approximately 1% of those that develop rash, it can progress to Stevens-Johnson syndrome or toxic epidermal necrolysis, both of which can be life threatening.
3140085 tn?1342843508 Since I am no longer employed I can not afford insurance. Fortunately I do live close to the border and can cross it to get my medicines still. My question is, since I can not go to the dr with out insurance and can not get blood work done for the depakote i am not comfortable taking it. a few years ago the dr had me take topamax and i really liked it. can you take topamax with prozac? or would I just need the topamax only? I'm really in a bind because i can not afford to see the dr.
Avatar n tn I've been on lamotrigine (lamictal) for years. I've taken many other medications for bp and not much has worked for whatever reasons. I did not find relief until I got on lamictal. It took several months to work the dose up a little at a time and some fine tuning to get the dose right. Now I'm on 300mg lamotrigine. I had some tremors and had some balance problems on the higher doses. I also take 450mg lithium carbonate and 60mg methylphenidate (this one's in the morning).
Avatar n tn I understand as do most people, that the big pharmas have to make note of every single thing that could go wrong, no matter how rare it is, look at you and the rash from Lamictal.........if your doctor had informed you of that possibility and how important it would be for you to see him if a rash appeared, you wouldn't have had to write to some forum to find out what was going on. I also realize that most doctors don't want to tell us all the possibilities.........
899491 tn?1243773627 I'm blaming all of this on my menopause which is not a bad thing. Since our kids are grown and somewhat out of the house I can spend more time with my husband. We are taking more trips together knowing our house will be in good hands with our kids. They don't party and do stupid things. My daughter works all the time and my son just hangs around to play his drums. It's a good time for them to travel too.
Avatar f tn My son is 25 and has seizure disorder. This past Thanksgiving, he had a total of 5 seizures over 24 hours necessitating a hospital visit and stay. They put him on a third seizure medication (Lamotrigine). I spoke with a neurologist at USF who didn't like that a 3rd medication was added before his previous two were maxed out--he was already on Keppra (max dosage) and Depakote (sprinkles--very low dose), so she titrated him up on the Depakote so we could get rid of the Lamotrigine.
Avatar f tn Last Monday I got to try Lamictal again, with the goal of reaching 100mg and stay there. But after 1-2 days I got a little burning feeling again, but no flu or rash yet. It´s so sad because I´ve feel more myself with this medicine than any other medication. Even that I´ve taken 25mg now I´m more relaxed in body and mind. The doctor thinks I should quit it again. But I was thinking if should try a few days more and see how it turns out. Is it really dangerous you think?
1756969 tn?1332437163 I take lamotrigine - 200mg -- and it has worked well for me with no side effects. It is usually weight neutral meaning it doesn't affect your appetite. I have taken other mood stabilizers and didn't like the side effects - lithium, bad hand tremor, diarrhea, vomiting; depakote, hair loss, weight gain; seroquel, extreme sleepiness Do remember that this is my experience and yours may be different.
Avatar f tn I was also on epilim and was taken off because of the weight gain, im now on lamotrigine, at the begining I found this to really lift my mood but then it wasnt enough so I was added some other medication, cant remember the name, I was ok for months but now for some reason I have started to cycle again.
1310468 tn?1274863925 Lamotrigine and some other anti-convulsant medications are approved for maintenance treatment in bipolar I disorder, because they have something to do with altering the excitability threshold of certain neurons. We're not yet entirely sure how that helps to control mood instability in bipolar disorder, but they are proven to be very effective in this regard. The good thing about lamotrigine in particular is that it can also have an anti-depressant on top of the mood stabilization!
Avatar f tn The survival rate for the bad rash is best at early onset and the treatment is urgent and intensive. When you ignore the rash and decide to let it go for a week, it's playing with a very big fire, and in fact, when not treated and it spreads to your sensitive areas--mouth, genitals, eyes, pits, the next progression is shock, which you can oick your flavor on,. There is more than one type of shock. it is treated like a 90% burn--meanng ICU support and prayer.
1756969 tn?1332437163 ve been taking Lamotrigine for over a year. It caused no changes in my weight or appetite. And I swear by the medication.
1895346 tn?1321305844 ve tried seroquel, geodone, ziprexa (although weight gain and cost are a factor) and abilify (cost may be a factor). There are also the mood stabilizers such as lamotrigine and depakote that may be useful. Lamotrigine is an easy one because it doesn't need blood tests. Make sure you titrate up slowly as it can cause a rash that can be fatal (although that is very very very rare) and titrating up seems to prevent that. I need a combination of medications.
Avatar n tn I started taking Lamotrigine shortly before this started. I also have had a burning tongue, and no sense of taste for almost a year. Any suggestions? I've tried about twenty different products, but NO results!
967145 tn?1247497890 A lot of meds have scary things attached to them. It is good to know these things even though it is scary. I am on Lamotrigine (generic) or Lamictle. The first thing my doctor said to me was, "This medicine can cause a rash that can be fatal. Don't worry, though, it is very rare and mostly happens if you raise your dose too quickly. But, if you get a rash of any kind stop the medication right away and call me." Wow!
899491 tn?1243773627 Before I was diagnosed with bp I was treated for hypothyroidism out in California back in the 1988. I got into holistic medience. The thyroid med's did work. I had a virus in my thyroid that was causing my sluggishness and then I didn't need them anymore. Thyroid med's helps to lose weight but if it makes you too hyper then you need to get off because of hyprtension. But I still felt I wasn't cured. I still had all these emotional aggitations. Mostly mixed moods.
