Avatar f tn I have developed a blue spot on the chewing surface of the tooth. I am facial pain around by jaw and ear. I had jaw surgery 10 years ago with plates and screws. Could the jaw pain be from the plates and screws in by jaw.
Avatar n tn I am wondering if this pain is now beyond a root canal; I have no idea what to consider as next steps, but I need to do something fast, as the pain is debilitating. Thank you....
Avatar n tn weeks after the root canal i still experienced pain in the jaw line around the tooth. went back for a second root canal. weeks later still pain. they though it might possible be a crack in the root. so I had the tooth extracted. week later, STILL pain in the jaw line around the extracted tooth and now in my jaw joint. I now think it must be an infection in my jaw bone from the original root canal.
Avatar n tn I had a root canal done almost a month back and at that time there was pain but not too bad and within a week the pain was gone. But now after almost a month the entire jaw where the root canal was done is hurting and it seems to be accompanied with some pain in the temple on that side of the head and pain in the ear too. So I was wondering is this is normal? Another question that I had was how long can I go before I I absolutely need to cap the tooth with a crown?
Avatar n tn If you had the root canal done by a general dentist, you can go to an endodontist (root canal expert) for a second opinion.
Avatar f tn Hi, three weeks ago I had an onlay put on a molar. I was not having any trouble with my tooth but the new dentist that I went to said that my amalgam filling had leaking margins and decay under the filling so we needed to do an onlay to prevent a root canal and crown later. She did the onlay and since that time I have had toothaches (throbbing) unless I take Ibuprofin 800mg every 6-8 hours. I have avoided eating on that side of my mouth.
Avatar m tn My husband recently has an MRI due to a 2 years history of headaches jaw tightness, neck soreness and if he quickly looks to his left has a feeling like he could black out. The MRI showed venous angioma and the doctor wants to have another MRI in 5 months. I am doing research on this and wanted to know if there were any studies showing infections that could "cause" venous angioma.
Avatar n tn Treat the root canal pain with ibuprofen. Most dentists recommend that you take a high dose of ibuprofen to relieve the inflammation and pain associated with the procedure. Ask for a prescription-strength pain reliever. If a dentist wants to make sure you don't suffer from root canal pain, she may give you a prescription for pain medicine.Use Orajel. Orajel is an over-the-counter gel that can temporarily numb the painful areas within your mouth.
Avatar f tn I failed to mention that when I touch the tooth accidently with my fork or spoon.. it feels like im chewing on tinfoil.. like that sharp pain on your fillings. As for the pain: it always hurts.. its a throbbing pain.
Avatar n tn I do know that when he was doing the root canal that my jaw would pop everytime I would close my mouth. The other pain (other than the root area) seems to be located in my jaw joint and radiates to my head, ear, and neck on the left side. I don't know what else to do.
Avatar f tn Then again it might not be your root canal. The pain in your jaw might be from the number of times you were injected with Novocaine.
Avatar n tn One of these two teeth had a root canal this fall and had 4 roots. I have had such severe throbbing pain in my upper jaw it is unbearable. The pain feels like it's between the teeth, but shoots to my temple, around my eye, and below my ear. I went back to my dentist this past week, and he removed one of the temporary crowns (the one that had the root canal), cleaned/dug around it, and replaced the temporary crown. He took an x-ray and said things looked ok.
Avatar f tn I had a root canal done this past Thursday. The endodontist said the tooth looked good when I left he even got the finish the whole root canal and I just needed to see my dentist to do the perminant filing. He took an xray, gave me some pain pills and sent me on my way. Saturday morning the pain was so unbareable I couldn't stand it.
Avatar n tn (Upon biting down and releasing, sharp pain resulted.) It was then determined I needed root canal. The root canal was not easy - I felt some of treatment due to inflammation from crack and afterwards I had pain for a few days both in the tooth and jaw. My jaw pain is on left side only - same side as tooth. My crown was placed on tooth with temporary cement and left like that for months - but the off and on discomfort remained.
Avatar n tn thank you for your help but i aswell suffer from what they call TMJ and im finding it hard to determine if most of the pain is from my jaw or the needled or the root canal it is not finished yet they still have to fill it with something and so on i have been going to the dentist every week for procedures due to the fact that i have just recieved benefits so i am getting poked and played with constatly and thinking that maby im getting more needles before the other ones can heal.
Avatar n tn I had a root canal a few months ago. now i have pain above the tooth which radiates to my ear and lower jaw. I tried antibiotics but the pain is still there. Do you recommend extraction now?
Avatar n tn I had a Root Canal done on January 22nd the numbness from the anasthesia went away later in that day, then 3 day later when I woke up my entire left jaw and lip were numb. I was told by the Dentist that It was an overfill, she then prescribed more antibiotic namely: Erythromyocin, Methylprednisolone, Tylenol 3, Keflex and Flagyl. Why all the antibiotics for an overfill. Today I am still numb lipped.
1307768 tn?1273363703 You may just be experiencing some post-operative pain from the root canal procedure. Did you have an abscess or anything prior to the root canal? I would call your doctor to let them know but I think over the counter pain medication along with some time should resolve the problem. They might want to put you on antibiotics just in case.
Avatar n tn I had a root canal and several weeks later noticed a pea-sized hard lump on my lower jaw bone, directly down from the root canal. The dentist who put my crown on after the root canal, said that the lump had nothing to do with the root canal, and that I probably always had this lump. Does this sound reasonable?
Avatar m tn some mild pain might occur after a root canal enough to warrant a couple advil and a nap not the horrible pain you are describing. even the typical failed root canal wouldnt cause that kind of pain. good luck and keep us posted!
Avatar m tn As for your cracked tooth, its possible the crack is quite deep and extensive and cause some damage to the pulp of the tooth, resulting in pain. A root canal would most likely fix the pain but you are still at risk for an infection later on, depending on the extent of the crack. If the crack is below gums and into the jawbone, the tooth is subject to infection and can cause loss of bone around that crack.
Avatar f tn I told the dentist about my pain and he said I might need a root canal so he prescribed me some pain meds and antibiotics if the pain continues. After my crown replacement appointment I was very numb and hours later once it wore off I was again in serious achy pains so I took the medications. It has now been almost a week and I have been in this same pain every day (constantly on the medicines). This may or may not be related but I was given a different type of shot than I am used to.
Avatar f tn Had a root canal late May. I'm still having pain that requires 800 mg ibuprofen to stop. It was #30 I believe. Pain often starts at the hinge of my right jaw. Also can feel it in the area of that tooth. I assume the root canal failed?
Avatar f tn Had root canal last Thurs and by Sat I was in extreme pain and with swelling to lower jaw & lump on inside of cheek & gums. I was given Amox. I have been taking Amox for 3 days & NSAID. Get HA, tired/dizzy off/on. Endodontist saw me today told me the lump was actually bone swelling not soft tissue but not to worry. Has anyone heard about this condition? Is it due to too much injected anesthesia or is it an immune response or the infection? Please advise thank you.
648217 tn?1273537754 I've been needing a root canal & was also told I needed a crown lenghthing hard tissue & crown but since some personal family emergency came up & ate away most of my savings I decided 2 only pay 4 what was hurting the most the root canal since my face is swollen now & tooth & jaw it hurts ALL time but the dentist said he wouldn't do just the root canal he'd b fine if I had root canal & crown lenghting but not just the root canal & we can hold off on the c
Avatar n tn Had a root canal done on an existing capped tooth, then several months later pain and infection, so surgery took place to clear root above gumline. Now a year later I'm in pain again. The tooth felt long like something was pushing it down to make it longer. I went to my Endo, had xray and he said there's No Infection at the root but said my sinus looked stuffy.
Avatar n tn I've had a root canal and the pain from that procedure has subsided. However, since the surgery I have had pain in my lower jaw, when I swallow, and it is painfull to open my mouth while attempting to eat. This pain hasn't gotten better or worse. It is subdued with a steady dose of Advil every 8 hours I have been to the doctors, and precribed anitbiotics, and after 3 days nothing seems to be working. Not even a slight improvment in my pain. Should I be concerned.
