1785493 tn?1314906051 I have a j-tube and have been having a lot of trouble with pain at the site. I have also noticed that there is skin sticking out of the wound and I'm leaking a lot more fluid from the wound than I normally should. My surgeons said this was normal, but I'm in such terrible pain still. I don't know what to do and am terribly worried about the skin, fluid, pain...
415684 tn?1257329318 Has anyone experienced an infection at their port site. My port itself is fine .. but there is swelling, redness, and heat just above the port where there are a couple of tubes buried under the skin. I am in Canada, but intend to go to my MD's office tomorrow afternoon to have it checked. Anyone had this problem .. and how did you fix it?
1689624 tn?1305813992 I have had gastroparesis for the last 4 years. I have had a J-tube for the last 3 years. I have been taking my medications through the J-tube because they werent working orally. I just had my J-tube removed and oral medications arent working again. Is this all in my head or is there a medical reason for this. I cant find any information on the internet and really need some answers.
Avatar f tn I wouldn't worry hon. You might possibly have an infection, at that case the Dr. will prescribe you something.. If it was something to be worried about then he/she would have said something.
Avatar m tn m having a hard time adjusting and not knowing for absolutely sure where the infection site is makes me feel even more alone. My doctor told me that where-ever it is, I've had it for some time already so there is low risk of transmission at this point due to not having a breakout, even without using antivirals. Still, I personally don't want to pose any risk to a partner.

Avatar n tn Hi there, My dad who is 68 yrs old was diagnosed with Stage III stomach cancer roughly 3 weeks ago and had ~50% of his stomach removed over a week ago. He has a feeding tube (j tube) and it seems to leak a lot and cause him some discomfort. It is quite red and slightly swollen around the sutures. Is this normal? Also, what is the time frame between surgery and chemotherapy or radiation therapy? Thank you so much for reading and potential comments. Warmest Regards, Hopeful daughter.
Avatar n tn My father is a 75 year old who had approximately 70% of his stomach removed due to stomach cancer. He has a j-tube to receive nutrition. The machine is typically set at 80ml per hour. However, every night, when the feedings start, he complains of gas in the stomach, or pressure/ bloated feeling in his stomach. To relieve the pressure and gassy feeling, he nearly always vomits a bit of stomach bile up. This happens nearly every night.
1288945 tn?1271972452 Wow, your dates are very similar to mine - diagnosed in 1983 (22 years old) and then 10 years later my bowel perforated while in the hospital. Had emergency surgery to remove colon and then a year later had the J-pouch created at Mt. Sinai in Toronto so for me it wasn't really a choice. It has been extremely successful. My son was diagnosed with UC 4 years ago when he was 20. He was very ill and wanted to have the surgery.
Avatar f tn Hello. I'd get a second opinion on that one. A J-tube (feeding tube that goes through the abdominal wall into the jejunum) can be an option, but it requires surgery (minor, but still an infection risk) and can offer a temporary or permanent solution to giving him nutrients. This feeding tube is below the stomach, so it is not affected by the bypass surgery (at least not to my knowledge.) I'm wondering about your husband's prognosis?
Avatar f tn If you j ust type bump as a comment on the post it will push the post to the top. Not sure about searching for ppl as I've never had to.
Avatar n tn I had to drain them 2 times a day and watch carefully for any sign of infection in the fluid coming out or around the tube insertion site. These tubes were also stitched in - not the disolvable kind - regular ones that need to be removed - they just hold the tube in place in case you move funny and accidently pull on it. Also, as a point.....one Dr.
Avatar n tn The larger median cubital, basilic and cephalic veins are most frequently used, but other may be necessary and will become more prominent if the patient closes his fist tightly. At no time may phlebotomists perform venipuncture on an artery. At no time will blood be drawn from the feet.
1182479 tn?1273372414 If you have an infection at an injection site is more than likely an abscess. You need antibiotics now. do not wait until tomorrow. The reason for NOT waiting is two-fold. First , the longer you wait the worse the infection which increases the chance for more tissue damage. secondly, the infection is going to set up for a flare-up. See somebody TODAY, I'm sure if you call your PCP tey will se you on an emergent basis. Please keep us informed.
Avatar n tn ve been out of hospital work too long, but I have not heard of J waves before. If your physician told you his opinion and you still don't believe it, I would suggest you seek another opinion. Then you might have some piece of mind over your child.
Avatar m tn The doctors did offer and say the next step would be a j tube but let's be honest that's not something everyone wants to have. Plus, we were mot convinced that would solve the nausea or the pain which they can't pinpoint.
612876 tn?1355514495 my tube had to be replaced again due to a clog. My wedding was pushed back a month because all my medical crud had made it impossible to plan a wedding. June: I way over-exerted myself doing wedding preparations, but it was so worth it. My wedding day was the best day of my life. <3 July: Honeymoon and rest rest rest. August: What should have been a routine surgery to exchange a damaged feeding tube led to a sixteen day hospitalization due to an adverse reaction to the anesthesia.
Avatar m tn You have been advised that you were never at risk for HIV infection. Testing IS NOT needed. There is nothing more this forum can do for you. Kindly Move Along...
1735059 tn?1310451429 It was very clear (to me) that there was fluid in my ear, but it had not dawned on me at the time that it might have gotten sucked up into my Eustachian Tube during all of the thrashing about I did in the pool. After a few days of trying to 'clear' my ear (and probably making it worse via the valsalva maneuver) I ended up in a severe amount of pain suddenly one night and went to the ER. There, they prescribed drops for both pain and an antibiotic.
