Index finger joint hurts

Common Questions and Answers about Index finger joint hurts

finger

this is the third day that my right index finger is swellon and hurts to touch. keeping in mind that it could be either arthritis or a insect bite because i was in shed.
Index finger was slammed in door 2 weeks ago - it was cut on both sides of finger but the cuts have healed and were never infected. My finger is still very swollen around the joint and it really hurts to bend - could this be fluid buildup and if so, can I do anything at home to relieve it?
My question is regarding the first joint of my right hand index finger. I believe it is called the proximal interphalangeal joint. The joint has been very sensitive to the touch for a few weeks with no sign of abating. The joint also hurts a little if I bend it fully, but not nearly as much as if I just touch it with a little pressure. I do not see any outward signs of injury. It is not red or swollen. I have no similar pains in any other fingers or joints.
The right index finger knuckle swells and hurts in the evenings and by mid morning it subsides. The pain radiates through the right shoulder into the mid section of my back. Can anyone suggest a treatment? As I have no insurance, I was wondering if there is a over the counter medication that would help. This happens only from Mid fall through March. I do yoga and am quite active otherwise.

I also buddy taped it. Now, two days later, it is still swollen and the middle joint of my index finger hurts. I can only bend it about halfway before it begins feeling stiff and hurts. I am not sure if it is just a jammed finger or a sprain or is there a fracture or dislocation?
I crushed my lower part of my index finger on Feb 14th. The swelling has been gone for the last 2 weeks. I can feel a bump under the skin. It hurts very badly if I bang it. It doesnt effect the joint movement. My doctor exrayed it and said there is no bone abnomality. So what is the bump? Me mentioned it was a piece of cartalidge? Is this true? Will it go away on its own? He wouldnt see me again about it, I hear it from his secretary.
Thank you, I did go see a hand surgeon and he acted like I was wasting his time. He looked at my x-rays and thats it. Said to do Physical Therapy, and if not better come back in 6 weeks. I still can't bend my index finger, and it is 1 & 1/2 times the normal size, and my hand swells after using it for a while, nad my finger gets very warm, and looks like it's gonna pop. It has been over 6 weeks since this happened and still no pain relief.
We while swinging my hand forward we collided and my right index finger became the victim. It felt like it went back too far as it happened. Afterward it tingled and feels hot from within. There also seems to be a clicking in my palm beneath the finger when I move the finger back and forth that is not found in any other finger. Also, when I shake my hand at all or try to grip anything the pain is much more intense. There is no noticable swelling.Any thoughts on what's going on?
I suddenly developed intense burning pain in my index finger knuckle on my left hand, which lasted for 2 days, it felt sprained. Yesterday it traveled to my elbow. It hurts and burns when I try to lift anything or open anything. My fingers on my left hand seems a little swollen but the pain is gone and traveled to my elbow. It is hard to make a fist and when I do it creates pain in my elbow. I also developed a bad headache yesterday and couldn't get rid of it.
And ever since this year, I've been getting swelling in the fingers or my right arm, mainly the pointer and index finger. It could be argued that this could be from my violin playing, but I couldn't fine anyone else at All-state orchestra with the same problem as me. I've gotten many blood tests done to test for Lupus, rheumatoid factor, and stuff like that..all came back negative.
(I'm 15 if it matters) I didn't hit my finger or injure it in any way, but it feels broke. I know it's not though because I can bend it. All of this is happening on my left index finger; -It's hot like when you break a bone. -I can bend it almost all the way until it starts to hurt too bad and I get a pain in the top knuckle even when I don't bend it, the pain is still there. -The pain is spreading down to my bottom knuckle as well, but it's not as painful and sometimes it's not there at all.
My husband has a hard lump on his pointer finger near the joint,he said it is painless, but Im concerned. What is this lump?is it cancerous? will it go away? should he see a doctor right away?
When you simply tape the 4th and 5th fingers together the bottom joint of the finger is still mobile. I'm assuming that's why the dr. recommended the splint. Also consider that the 4th and 5th fingers are the most mobileof the 4 fingers with respect to the palm moving. For instance when you make a fist the pointer and middle finger bones in the palm stay in about the same place, but the ring and pinky actually wrap toward the thumb.
Could there be a cyst under the vein or an aneurysm? It is on my lefthand index finger between the knuckle and first joint. I am a 65-year-old woman and did not injure the site.
to your hand he said again that it is from doing repetive motion with my hands all day. In my index finger on my left hand I have a knot where the finger attaches to my hand. The doctor said this is a very tight tendon that can come and go. Maybe that is all yours is and it is swelling and cutting off the circulation causing it to go numb. I have a friend who had wrist surgery I think she had that fusion. It was recent though. Has your surgery been long ago?
I've had this tiny red spot on my left index finger joint since I can remember. It has never gone away. and recently, i've just noticed another small red spot on the joint of my right thumb that hurts when i put pressure on it and rub it. could anyone tell me what this means? im 14 and have been playing piano since i was 4 and guitar since I was 12 1/2 if it helps with an explanation.
Just diagnosed with gastritis and Barrett esophagus, have arthritis of hands, knees, hips and back and degeneration in back, have that blister lump on index finger that Dr. Says is my joint blowing out and he wants to do surgery, feel like I hit 60 and started falling apart! I love life and want to live a long life. Any advice ?
I have a rash, it consists of 3 or 4 red bumps on the middle joint of my middle finger and now I also have two bumps on my index fingers on both hands and some bumps on my elbow. They are a little itchy and kind of painful, and look sort of like blisters. Does this sound like what you've experienced? I'm hoping you can help shed some light on my situation. I appreciate your help!
Hi, my index finger was broken and sprained 35 days ago (Jan 6, 2008). It's still quite painful and the joint is very stiff. I'm getting very concerned because I'm a guitar player and it's still basically impossible for me to play properly. The injury happened as follows: my fist was in a nearly closed position. A person deliberately grabbed my index finger and forcibly wrenched it.
and I am desperately trying to figure out why I continue to break out in hives and have joint pain in my elbows, feet, hands and legs. I too started breaking out in hives after taking the antibotic Solodyn for acne. After a trip to the ER, it was assumed that I had an alergic reaction to the medicine. I stopped taking the medicine after only 3 weeks and needless to say, I am still breaking out in hives and have joint pain. I have been tested for allergies and that was negative.
I broke my pinky finger through the joint playing rugby about 6 months ago. I didn't have to get surgery but I had like exercises I had to do everyday so I didn't loose movement in that finger. Just last month I got full movement back...so it could take a while. Hope all goes well!
To make matters worse whenever I flex the previously injured finger in all the way the index finger begins to hurt. It also hurts more than usual if I bump something or knock on a door. Is there any type of joint injury that could explain this bump that is almost the size of a pea forming on the joint after the injury heals? Can I expect this bump to go away after a reasonable period of time? If not would a hand surgeon be able to remove the bump somehow?

The next day my hand became really swollen around and mostly above my CMC joint on my right hand and my index finger knuckle is a little swollen. The swollen area is hard and I don't have complete motion of my thumb. It hurts but not to the point where my mom is willing to take me to the doctor. From looking everything up onling it seems like I sprained my thumb. If someone has any idea what is going on I'd appreciate it.
Both knuckles are continuously swollen. In the morning my finger is stiff and hurts. Sometimes I can barely move my finger. Usually I'll massage the joint and it will start to loosen up. Sometimes my joint feels hot to the touch, but that's only when it flares up. I have been tested for arthritis and it has come back negative, I've also been tested for Lupus as it runs in my family and that has been negative as well. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
