Avatar m tn Hello, hoping someone might be able to help me with this. I was playing guitar and I hit the strings with my index finger. I didn't even notice at the time and it didn't hurt or even draw blood. But the finger was sensitive for a few days and then it started to swell. A few days later the entire top half of the finger was twice the size. I went to see a doctor and she x-rayed it and said she couldn't see anything inside it although the x-ray doesn't pick up everything.
Avatar m tn My question is regarding the first joint of my right hand index finger. I believe it is called the proximal interphalangeal joint. The joint has been very sensitive to the touch for a few weeks with no sign of abating. The joint also hurts a little if I bend it fully, but not nearly as much as if I just touch it with a little pressure. I do not see any outward signs of injury. It is not red or swollen. I have no similar pains in any other fingers or joints.
Avatar n tn I have this problem, burning pain between index finger and 2nd finger. I cannot clench my fist unless I straighten index finger then I can make fist with the other three. I have never heard of this before, so if you have no answer I will have to goto.
Avatar n tn The index finger of my left hand twitches on occassion. i have a bit of tingling in my left palm as well. What could be the reason for this twitch? Thanks, This discussion is related to Finger twitching and parkinsons, MS, neurological disorder, cardiovascular.
Avatar m tn When scalene muscle is the cause of pain, the pain is referred to chest, inner lining of scapula (shoulder bone), shoulder, posterior and lateral sides of the arm right up to the thumb and index finger. Repeated clicking of mouse of computer can injure the tendon of index, cause compression of median nerve and also cause this numbness. Please consult your PCP for primary examination followed by proper referral. Take care!
Avatar m tn s no swelling. My wrist pops easily. The central knuckles of my index finger, middle finger and ring finger all hurt. The index finger also hurt a few days at the base, but stopped. I have a doctor's appointment on the 7th. Sorry for the repeated posts; just a little worried and the appointment seems so far away. If you were me, what you lean closer to? Arthritis or tendonitis?
Avatar n tn The tip of my index finger hurts with a burning electric pain whenever I put any pressure on it. It started a few hours after I got back from the grocery store. I was reaching for an item on the top shelf and bent my wrist down at 90 degrees. I then bumped my wrist on the edge of the shelf or something and felt a brief pain in the wrist. I didn't think anything of it. My fingers were fine for hours because I washed my hands and pressed on them fine.
Avatar n tn My problem is that my index finger falls asleep when I write or even scroll with a computer mouse. Even when I exercise the index finger starts tingling. Its really weird this has never happened to me before. Can you help? I'm not sure if its serious enough to see a doctor. Thanks for your help in advance.
Avatar m tn Three days ago I woke up feeling pain in my right index finger. I kind of ignored it and it would just hurt sometimes when I did something in some positions like holding the mouse, typing on the keyboard and etc. Yesterday I woke up and realized my index finger is kind of swollen but not a lot. Like you could barely tell it was swollen. Now today my whole hands hurts like deep inside I feel this painful sharp pain and I think my finger is still a bit swollen.
Avatar f tn In your case the problem may have been there for a long time, but repeated clicking of the mouse (thus injuring the tendon of index finger) could have triggered the pain now. Application of ice pack, anti-inflammatory drugs, wearing wrist braces, stretching and strengthening exercises when the pain subsides and modification of the way you click mouse goes a long way in avoiding further injury and treating the present symptoms. Try these tips.
Avatar m tn This could be carpal tunnel syndrome due to entrapment of median nerve. it is caused by prolonged use of computer or thumb and index finger as in improper position of arm and wrist can result in mouse elbow. Application of ice pack, anti-inflammatory drugs, wearing wrist braces, stretching and strengthening exercises when the pain subsides and modification of the way you click mouse goes a long way in avoiding further injury and treating the present symptoms.
Avatar n tn When scalene muscle is the cause of pain, the pain is referred chest, inner lining of scapula, shoulder, posterior and lateral sides of the arm right up to the thumb and index finger. When this muscle shortens, this can press on brachial plexus and the subclavian artery and can compress or irritate these structures and cause symptoms such as abnormal sensation, cold extremity, claudication, and lymphedema in the involved extremity.
Avatar n tn ve been thinking I have some sort of nerve damage and possibly anxiety related issues. Lately my index finger has began to twitch or tremor (not sure of the right term) it will move in a left and right direction for a period of time. It also seems to occasionally move forwards as well but rarely. 90% of the time this occurs when I'm sitting at my computer desk. I admit I have always had terrible posture in general.
1708249 tn?1307937090 The primary burn mark is on the left inner part of my index finger. It really hurts! Right after the incident happened I put ICE on it for approx. 40 minutes, and then I put some NEOSPORIN creme on it; however it still really hurts! It stings, burns and hurts all in one. The mark is white, kind of looks like a square. Is there anything else I should do about this? The pain is a 6/10. Thanks! I appreciate the help! - Carson S.

Avatar n tn my index finger is geting swollen in the middle and it stings when bend it what can be the cause of it
Avatar n tn Back in March I was holding a little girl that was standing on my lap and she lost her balance and squatted down. My hand was behind her knee and my right index finger popped and then hurt really bad for awhile. I assumed it would go away and it didn't. A few days later I went to urgent care. They took x-rays and saw nothing and told me to take ibuprofen and continue to use it like normal.
Avatar m tn He then put me on antibiotics. The finger still hurts but not as much. It looks like the finger is getting much better. However, this morning my right arm was sore but I didn't think anything of it. Now, the right side, and only the right side, of my face hurts. Are these related and is it bad if they are? And if they are related, will the antibiotics still kill the infection, and should I notify the doctor? Thank you!

Avatar f tn 2 days ago I suddenly devoped pain in my left index finger at the knuckle. I can touch it and its ok, but if I move it at all in any direction, it hurts pretty bad. Late yesterday it started hurting some in the knuckle where my finger joins my hand, top and bottom. Its sore feeling in that area when I touch it. A vein on the right side of the finger is bulging out some and it seems to be slightly swollen. I can bend it, it just hurts.
Avatar f tn For a visual, imagine a small callus on the outer side of your index finger, where there should be a finger print still, now has a little swirl that doesn't follow the pattern. Can this be something else? What can I use to treat it? No health insurance so seeing a derm is out of the budget. I use my hands for delicate work quite often, please help!
Avatar f tn My left hand thats my index finger has a red bump on it also it hurts a little also my right arm has bump that looks white Iknow its not chicken pox cause I ask a profit.. do anyone know what it could be that my index finger has a red bump on it?
Avatar f tn Often proper working style, working without bending wrist, using smooth movements to operate the mouse and key pad, and relaxing the joints of finger, wrist and arm in between helps. A wrist support or arm support too helps and you have computer chairs with support for your spine and arm. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar n tn Need to know if anyone can help me figure out what is going on with my right index finger. It hurts so dang bad, im in tears. I woke up to severe pain in my fingers, or so I thought. By night fall Ive realized that the pain is actually from just my dominant index (pointer) finger... and localized pain is just at the 2ND knuckle (big one in middle of finger ) It is so intense I thought it was all my fingers but its not.
Avatar f tn The soreness is over to the side in the soft part of the index finger between the first knuckle and the nail. It hurts if I type or if I press on it in anyway. It also throbs a little and feels hot. There is no detectable swelling or any sort of cyst of any type but the pain has become more bothersome over the last 24 hours. What could be causing this? Should I be worried? I wouldn't really be bothered except I am a guitarist and I don't want it to affect my playing.
