Ibuprofen vs tylenol for liver

Common Questions and Answers about Ibuprofen vs tylenol for liver

ibuprofen

Avatar f tn Two completely different compounds. Tylenol, or acetaminophen has been deemed safe during pregnancy, ibuprofen, or Advil has NOT. As for aspirin, that's correct, it's a blood thinner.
689265 tn?1251130087 just had my 2 year old at the drs for a check following a fever and told him I'd used calprofen ( children's ibuprofen ) initially when trying to bring his temperature down. He hit the roof!!! He said ibuprofen is proven to cause kidney damage and should NOT be made for children at all, he's on quite a mission to ban it. Just thought i'd let you guys know. fortunately, i'd only given my lad 2.
7758733 tn?1402589420 Killer headaches, and never any Tylenol around. Ibuprofen can't be that bad huh? Got to go to work and this headache must go.
7510956 tn?1411671417 The Liver Meeting 2014: American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases (AASLD) Good Old Aspirin Might Protect Against Liver Fibrosis Neil Osterweil November 10, 2014 BOSTON — Will wonder drugs never cease? Aspirin, already touted for its cardiovascular and anti-inflammatory prowess, seems to be flexing its muscles against liver fibrosis, particularly in people at risk for chronic liver disease, according to new research.
1084115 tn?1385228589 Of course, I am not a doctor, but my husband's hepatologist recommends that my husband take Ibuprofen for fever or pain, rather than Tylenol. I would suggest taking the smallest dosage of Ibuprofen possible and stay under the total limit allowed for a 24 hr period and stop taking it when you don't need it anymore. Drink lots of fluids for your fever and don't bundle up too tightly.
3122657 tn?1357432602 Hi all so far 3 months into treatment i was pretty much sailing through it but not by body is hurting my back my legs just everything i ran out of Acetaminophen and want to know if anyone here knows if i can take Ibuprofen for the aches i am undetectable at week 4 no liver damage if someone could help me out with this Thanks Much love Karen
Avatar f tn I am wondering if there is something besides Tylenol 3 that I can ask for to be prescribed as I have some liver issues and everytime I get a migraine or other aches and pains that are too much for over the counter, I get prescribed T3's, but I am concerned they are making my liver worse. I have fatty liver disease, and I don't drink, and I don't really eat fatty foods (the two most common causes of FLD). I just need something as strong as T3's, but not as hard on liver?
Avatar f tn Okay, I KNOW that I remember being told by the liver doctor who performed my biopsy that if I do need to take a pain reliever that I should take Tylenol. My OB/GYN doctor just told me to take Advil for cramps because it isn't metabolized in the liver. I rarely take anything, but if I do, which is less risky? Liver biopsy one year ago found no significant tissue scarring. My recent ALT enzyme levels are slightly lower than before, 61. My other enzyme levels are normal.
Avatar n tn ibuprofen have reported death cases on people with liver diseases, same aspirin, absolutely out of question the safest and most potent pain relever is harpagoside contained in Devil's Claw: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harpagophytum no toxicity at any dose it is a vegetable used regularly for centuries in several countires.
1654058 tn?1407159066 Karen, Your platelets are already low, and NSAIDs can increase the risk for bleeding; imho, acetaminophen over the ibuprofen, hands down. With low platelets from tx and a compromised liver and kidney system, any of the NSAIDs are contra-indicated for you (includes Motrin, Advil, Aleve). Tylenol is not to be taken indiscriminately either, though. With cirrhosis, no more than 2000 mg per day max (that means no more than 4 Extra Strength Tylenol in any 24 hour period).
Avatar f tn I was told by a Doctor that tylenol was not good for my liver and to take Ibprofen if needed but in moderation.... True?
1148241 tn?1294052796 Anything you ingest by mouth is eventually going to go through your liver. From what I've read, ibuprofen isn't as hard on the liver as tylenol (acetomenaphen or paracetamol), but still be careful to take no more than what the label says, and tell your doctor you're taking it. If it works, your doctor may direct you to take more than what's on the label, but again, follow instructions, dosage and timing carefully. Stay away from the "extra strength" formulas.
543518 tn?1245322027 However, as long as you do not take many, a noncrhirrotic liver will manage to metabolze it. Tylenol is very helpful against fever, ibuprofen is ver helpful against infammation, eg of the ankles. Aspirin and ibuprofen increase the risk of severe bleeding, especially if one has low platelets. All these substances should be taken with care. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8cKzJOmVhjs Fore migraine there are much better specialised drugs, the triptanes. Migraine is not simple headache.
Avatar f tn so i usually use a NSAID like Ibuprofen or Pamprin (acetaminophen) once a month for cramps, but I know these are hard on the liver and now that I know i have Hepatitis C is there something else i could take? I menstrual cramps that are unbearable the first few days.
Avatar m tn My pain is not a pain for tylenol or ibuprofen. I need something stronger for this kind of pain. I need analgesic and antiflamattories.
Avatar f tn Tylenol is the preferred pain killer by hepatologists for those on treatment. That said, I stopped taking it after week 3 and didn't notice a difference. Felt like sh*t either way.
Avatar f tn C with Pegasys/riboviran and my hepatologist actually prescribed tylenol 250mg up to three times a day for muscle aches and pains. No doubt tylenol is hard on the liver, but because my liver enzymes were not elevated my hepatologist said that in small amounts is safe and was effective to help with the flu like symptoms.
Avatar n tn My doc told me Ibuprofen only but my liver is a stage 0 which means little to no damage.
Avatar n tn You can take three a day but no more because it could affect your kidneys. Tylenol is hard on the liver. Ask your doctor. The 800mg. Ibuprofen is an anti-inflamatory. It helps me a lot. I can't take Tylenol because of my liver problems, but you should get some good relief from Ibuprofen...
Avatar f tn Tylenol and ibuprophen are both bad for livers. In fact tylenol has caused people to have transplants. Having said that, some people tolerate it without problems. HCV is such a stange virus causing effects from none to death. Sorry, I don't know anything about bursitis but if it were me, I'd look into other alternatives.
Avatar m tn What can you take for the pain other then tylenol? What can you do or take to help with sleep. My first night I was up all night with pain in my legs also head and even my hair was hurting too it feel like someone just rip out a bunch of hair.
1323278 tn?1298122488 They all effective and some people can take some and not others. I for instance can not take tylenol because of drug interactions and my liver. Headaches are very complicated mine run with my asthma. The better I am doing with controlling my asthma the less headaches I have.
Avatar n tn Not really any difference. Vicoprofen has Ibuprofen with the Hydrocodone. Vicodin has Tylenol. Strength would be the same if they both were the same dose.
Avatar m tn I have stage 3 Hep c, which is a better choice for my liver, tramadol or tylenol
6708370 tn?1471490210 I also use ibuprofen. Tylenol never worked for me. Before I was cured of HCV I was told I could take up to 2000 mg of tylenol a day. I didn't take it as it did nothing for me. Once I was cured, my doctor told me I could once again take ibuprofen. I limit as much as I am able. I guess you have to weigh the risks against the benefits.
