Hysterectomy migraine

Common Questions and Answers about Hysterectomy migraine

hysterectomy

Avatar n tn I had a hysterectomy ten years ago. Prior to the surgery, I suffered with migraines and they were significantly reduced with the use of estrogen. Since stopping the estrogen, I have been getting severe frequent migraines. Should I go back on estrogen?
1552758 tn?1304928419 One thing that I recommend is that each migraine sufferer keeps a migraine diary. Write down every tablet that you take and what food and drink you have had. Also stress and weather changes. Something else that used to trigger my migraines was that if I drove along a road that had trees down each side so that there was a constant flashing of light/dark patterns, I would always end up with a migraine. Same with driving at night, with oncoming vehicles bright lights.
Avatar f tn If you have had a total hysterectomy, then you can have hot flashes and other menopause symptoms. If you weren't told this is a possibility with a total hysterectomy, you should have been told this. After all, the ovaries are responsible for regulating female and male hormones in women. Do you get migraines? Nausea and bad headache plus hot flash tells me you must have had a migraine. The hot flash could have been part of your aura that a lot of us get prior to getting the migraine.
Avatar f tn I just had a hysterectomy myself. Ovaries intact. I have had two migraine headaches since surgery. I also was sweating like crazy, but this has subsided. I am trying to figure out if it is related to hormones as well. I have had my migraines under control for years 2 per year until now. I recently had my hormone level checked as well as my thyroid. This test was normal. I am not a dr. but the Uterus has some function in hormone control, but it is minimal.
Avatar f tn Hi, I had a complete hysterectomy and have been on an estrogen patch ( vivelle dot) for ten years. I have had migraines for 30 yrs. I’m really struggling because changing the patch every three days triggers a migraine like clock work. At 12 hrs the pain begins and builds so by 24 hrs it’s debilitating. Pain meds are not an option that frequently obviously. Would it help to overlap the tone I put one on and take the old one off. Clearly the rise and fall of estrogen is the trigger.
Avatar n tn 00. No caffeine, alcohol, MSG, etc. 2 years ago, I had a complete hysterectomy to try to regulate hormones, but there was no change in the frequency. I have had great success with preventative meds, but they only work for 3 weeks, after which time my body adjusts and they never work again-even years later. I am SO frustrated! I can't go out to dinner, to parties, etc. unless I eat in advance. My neurologist, primary care doc and gyn are completely perplexed.
Avatar f tn Lately work has been so overwhelming that sometimes it is hard to find the time to breathe! But, I noticed the post and I feel for you on the Migraine front. I had allergy related migraine-type headaches when I was not on allergy shots, but never had a true migraine until I hit Peri-menopause. Wicked ugly. Fluctuating hormones can cause this symptom (along with about 25 other symptoms that often get written off as other problems not related to ovarian hormone decline...
Avatar f tn She tried many different prescription medications including Imitrex, which provided some but not complete relief. About 8 years ago, she underwent a hysterectomy, which she hoped would alleviate her migraine pain since they seemed to be related to her menstrual cycle. However, her migraines persist in a similar pattern occuring almost every month. She is not taking any hormone therapy.
267076 tn?1270674331 I see a neurologist for back pain and migraine variant. I was diagnosed by a psychiatrist and a neurologist with a migraine variant. No one else would take the time . I assume you had all your lab work done and it is all normal too? I'm not saying psychiatrist because it is in your head, it is because they are really good with drug combinations. So are the neurologists and both are good at diagnosis of this kind of thing. If your GI doc can't figure it out it may be nerve pain.

Avatar f tn I am a 41 y/o woman, had a emergency hysterectomy @11 years ago at the age of 30. I am pretty frightened... tonight I noticed quite a bit of discharge from both nipples. From the right breast, bloody (not bright red, a little darker) and thicker discharge from that nipple. I am not on HRT, I do not have medical insurance, have not had a mammogram.
Avatar f tn It is good to know that the MRI was normal. This could indeed be due to primary headaches such as migraine or cluster headaches since migraine usually have visual symptoms . Ocular or opthalmic migraines usually presents with small, enlarging blind spot (scotoma) in the central vision with bright, flickering lights (scintillations) or a shimmering zig-zag line (metamorphopsia) inside the blind spot. The blind spot usually enlarges and may also move across the field of vision.
Avatar f tn When I sit, I feel like I have baby feet in my ribs. My hysterectomy only removed my uterus and my left ovary. I kept the right one. So I would be inclined to agree somewhat that what I am experiencing has nothing to do with the surgery except I was fine prior to having it. So I went to my local hospital's convenient care clinic, described how I was feeling. I was not running a fever, or anything but I was sent for a CT scan and a cbc.
1303966 tn?1296740010 Doctor wanted to give me shot, but good thing I refused these. I have complicated migraine and complex seizures. This shot would not have been a good choice for me. I had a biopsy of my uterus and was fine. I have enlarged uterus and abnormal, irregular periods. What can I do besides get a hysterectomy? I'm 41 and from what I understand, adnomyosis gets better during menopause.
Avatar f tn Hi, I have been having a severe migraine for 5 weeks now. Hit hits right behind my right eye above my ear like if I got stabbed there and last from 2 hr to 8 hrs or longer. Avatar f tn I had a hysterectomy (they left one ovary) in Fall of 2005. 3 months after my hysterectomy, my gynecologist had put my on hormone patches to regulate my hormones. In January 2006, I had a grand mal seizure. Since then I had two more 6 months apart. I have been seizure free for almost a year. I take Keppra 1000mg twice a day, lexapro at night and multivitamins. I have tried pain management and it never broke the pain just relieve to a bearable state.

1389553 tn?1280782127 I am 40 yrs old I had an MRI done past Dec of last year, they say I have Rathe Cleft Cyst in my piturary gland. (5cm) I had several doctors saying they are not causing the migraine. Now, before I had the MRI, I was complaining of having severe migraines for the last 2 yrs. I was taking Imitrex for a while but, I did not like the way I felt-it caused my heart to beat too fast, felt I was surley gonna pass out. I am still taking Topamax to help preventing these headahces.
Avatar f tn Since you have a headache almost daily, what you have is in all probability not a simple migraine but a chronic daily headache (CDH). This can be the primary type—without any cause. One simple reason for daily headaches is compression of cervical spinal nerves. Another reason is TMJ, especially if the headache starts with chewing. The third reason could be severe acidity with or without GERD.
Avatar f tn the other night I woke up in the middle of the night, felt uneasy, watched t.v for a few minutes then saw about 10 seconds of stars in my upper vision in both eyes then loss all sight. It was as if someone had drawn a horizontal line throught the middle of both eyes and I could not see a thing above that line. Lasted five or six minutes then vanished. No headache. Five minutes later, Raynaud's in right hand and swelling/aching of right arm.
