Common Questions and Answers about Hypoglycemia symptoms in diabetics

hypoglycemia

Avatar f tn These are vague symptoms for hypoglycemia. I would see an Endocrinologist and have some bloodwork done.
Avatar n tn This type of hypoglycemia does not lead to diabetes.
Avatar n tn Although some studies tend to indicate that some type 1 diabetics do not release these emergency sugars quite as well as non-diabetics, there is still a store of emergency sugars to help. Unfortunately, one of the things that alcohol does is preventing this release of emergency sugars. If you do some research on this subject you will find that many doctors suggest that diabetics either don't drink alcohol at all or limit the intake to 1 drink.
Avatar n tn This confusion is common, for the medications that most people are put on to treat diabetes can cause hypoglycemia if overdosed or if the patient delays a meal or perhaps does not eat the usual amount of carbohydrates in a normal meal. So diabetics can and do suffer from hypoglycemia.
Avatar n tn My 28 year old son has had Type I since he was 15 yrs old. Those first fiew years went quite smoothly. Then he got the pump and went off to college. I think he may have started a little rebellion at this point. He started guessing at his BS and would give too much insulin.... anyway, he now has hypoglycemic unawareness. It happens a lot during the night.
Avatar n tn When this happens in episodes too close together, the result is loss of warning symptoms of hypoglycemia. So it is important for you to know that the liquids will start raising sugar levels quicker than carbs in solid foods, especially in foods with high fat content. Both will of course raise the sugar levels at some point, but the difference is in timing.
Avatar n tn do you mean within the moment or do you mean prolonged meaning as in years? I hope you mean in the moment because one has hypoglycemia for life, right? Also, that doesn't happen often does it? If your blood sugar drops and you eat,and then feel better, that stuff should not happen right?
1770925 tn?1365618522 I have hypoglycemia for years and I don't eat sugary foods or fried foods. I eat small meals 6 times a day. Fruit and vegetables and soy products. Just fish etc. I am just saying that small meals often is the way to go with hypoglycemia. This eating regime helps my sugar stay level and not low, but if I stress the sugar drops and ginger helps me. I am not on any medication. See your Dr for advice.
Avatar f tn Take the time to Google and learn about Hypoglycemia and also LADA [Latent Autoimmune Disease in Adults] which is a type of Hypoglycemia and often misdiagnosed as Hyperglycemia. Good luck.
Avatar n tn I would take him to the hospital or the doctor and explain the symptoms you have been noticing in your husband. Only with proper bloodwork can the doctor assess the true nature of his problem. And performing an exam will give the doctor much needed information on what tests to run. I hope he feels better.
341655 tn?1240368839 Sounds like you might have hypoglycemia when your body produces too much insulin when you eat carbs. (Diabetics are hyperglycemic) So if you eat pancakes you get the quick sugar rush but then you suffer a low. You feel bad, eat more, triggering more insulin. It is closly related to diabetes and you can pass out from it. The test is the same one they use for pregnant mothers.
Avatar n tn Similarly, shaky hands can occur in folks who have an unrelated condition called hypoglycemia, in folks with a neurological condition, or in folks who are quite stressed physically or emotionally. As I mentioned above, it can also be a side effect from some medications. Shaky hands can mean many things ... or can mean simply that a person has shaky hands. I know a fellow who simply has shaky hands -- seems he always has.
Avatar n tn The day camp workers should possibly be taught what to look for in the way of symptoms of hypoglycemia and be given permisison to give him a half cup of juice if he seems to need it.
1949068 tn?1449628519 In addition to my post? Both of my mothers parents were diabetics. Also, my mother is one herself.
Avatar n tn It is known that many diabetics, particularly ones who are tightly controlled, can lose their warning symptoms of hypoglycemia, but i have never heard this blamed on any particular type of insuln. A number of studies have been done on this issue, and one released a few years ago linked the problem to frequency of hypoglycemic episodes and the body's emergency response to them when they are not fixed quickly.
Avatar n tn the other cause is hypocalcemia, hypokalemia and deranged sodium, potassium or phosphate levels. Hypoglycemia in diabetics etc can also cause perioral tingling. Raynaud’s disease or phenomenon causes tingling and numbness in lips, nose ears, nipples , fingers or toes, changing from white to blue to red on exposure to cold. It is seen in systemic sclerosis, SLE or rheumatoid arthritis. Infections like shingles and leprosy, neurological disorders like multiple sclerosis and trigeminal neuralgia.
Avatar f tn ve been having a hard time with what I was told was reactive hypoglycemia. I get all the symptoms of hypoglycemia without having the low blood sugar. I addressed this issue with my GI doctor because I have been eating dairy and gluten free, eating 6 meals a day (now every two hours), and drink liquids between my meals. I do try to not eat sugar, eat a lot of meat when I can afford it, nuts, fruits, veggies, and I still get symptoms. They suggested I eat 40 grams of fiber.
Avatar n tn Obviously, a severe hypoglycemic reaction that is not corrected can lead to cardiac arrest, so other heart-related symptoms can be present in cases of severe hypoglycemia. If the brain is not functioning properly enough to tell the muscles what to do, then the heart muscle can be temporarily affected until the gucose levels rise back to normal. Do a Google search and read some of the articles listed, and I think you will find some helpful info.
Avatar n tn I don't understand how alcohol can cause hypoglycemina in diabetics. It seems to me that it would cause hyperglycemia because of the sugar in the alcohol. I just heard a story of an adult who passed out twice because she had wine after taking insulin. Her blood sugar was 175 when she took her insulin and within 15 minutes she was passed out.
Avatar n tn Without insulin, these sugars build up in the bloodstream and the person becomes ill. In Hypoglycemia, the pancreas makes too MUCH insulin at times, and this overdose of insulin, if you will, causes the symptoms you describe. You will find that eating something that has some carbohydrates in it will make you feel better quicker than something that is low in carbohydrates when you feel this way. Many people exeperience this and there can be many causes.
Avatar m tn I'm 13 almost 14 in may. I have the same EXACT symptoms. I'm dizzy all day everyday. I don't feel well after sugary snacks and such. I had an OGTT (oral glucose tolerance test) which is a 4-5 hour blood sugar test. I was diagnosednwith hypoglycemia. I'm not diabetic, I have the opposite of what diabetics have. I too have anxiety because of the loss of my sister (stillborn about 8 months ago) and don't know what anxiety does with low blood sugr. I hope this helped.
Avatar m tn After my blood sugar has returned to normal levels (101 mg/dL in 3 hours) can I be sure that I shouldn't have any symptoms of hypoglycemia or on the other hand if my blood sugar levels are in the normal range, I shouldn't have any symptoms of hypoglycemia? Or there is a possibility to suffer from hypoglycemia symptoms when your blood glucose levels are within the range?
Avatar n tn I have a problem which has been going on for several years and I can't seem to get to the bottom of it. I'm 38 years old and have the following symptoms - an occasional feeling of fatigue in the center of my chest, in my arms and in my legs. It's not a weakness because I still have all my strength. It feels more like a fatigue or cold rubbery sensation. I also notice a slight trembling and twitching in my fingers and thumb.
Avatar n tn He has been battling hypoglycemia ever sisnce. We have been in and out of ICUs and all they can do is give him Dextrose 10% IVs a few days and send him home afterwards until it happens again. We are told it has something to do with when he eats and the food sits in his stomach a hormone or something chemical stimulates the pancreas to shoot EXCESSIVE insulin. Our gastros can't figure it out and our endocrinologists can't either? We are in Miami, Florida.
Avatar n tn t know if she is seeing a specialist now, but at her tender age, this kind of dangerous problem (severe hypoglycemia that is severe enough to cause the presence of keytones in her urine) needs the specialization of the endocrinologist. A regular pediatrician is just not going to have the experience with this particular problem to be able to help you.
Avatar f tn It sounds like Reactive Hypoglycemia refers to people that have low blood sugar after eating, even if they eat sufficient carbs. It seems as though Reactive Hypoglycemia exists in some people entirely separate from any diagnosis of diabetes. (but they check to make sure as hypoglycemia is a symptom often experienced by diabetics).
