1527017 tn?1291671470 Proteinuria is the protein in the urine when it exceeds the level of 150 mg/day.Proteinuria can be checked for free proteins like protein C or particularly albumin.More proteins in the urine could indicate that the kidneys are failing.Proteinuria is not a disease but a symptom that indicates underlying pathology.Proteinuria may occur in association with other symptoms like hematuria, edema, hypertension, hypoalbuminemia, hypercholestrolemia, hyperlipemia, elevated serum creatinine and ASO.
Avatar n tn Because the protein has left the body, the blood can no longer soak up enough fluid and swelling in the hands, feet, abdomen, or face may be observed such as seen in your husband. If your husband has persistent proteinuria additional tests must be done to evaluate his kidney function. In addition to blood glucose and blood pressure control, the National Kidney Foundation recommends restricting dietary salt and protein.

Avatar n tn Sometimes swelling in the feet can be from injury, or fluid retention due to menstrual cycles, pregnancy or menopause but sometimes it can also indicate a problem with the kidneys or heart or lymphatic problem. At home cut down on your salt intake and elevate your legs as much as you can when you are sitting and resting, this will help to draw the fluid away from your feet.
Avatar m tn Persistently foamy urine can be a sign of protein in your urine (proteinuria), which requires further evaluation. Large amounts of protein in urine may indicate a serious kidney problem. In your case it appears to have been ruled out. Urinary tract infections (UTIs) and retrograde ejaculation are 2 other possibilities. In men, the most common source of the infection is the prostate gland (prostatitis). Hope this helps. It is difficult to comment beyond this at this stage.
Avatar f tn The doctor does not want to do any testing until I am done with my pregnancy. In the mean time I am trying to come up with my own conclusions. Do you have any insight for me?

Avatar n tn The drug has eliminated hypertension (drop of 10-20 mm pressure), ascities (loss of over 5 lbs weight), and oedema in my ankles. It has also reduced ongoing diarrhea. I still have occasional peripheral cramping which generally resolves if I drink Pedialyte. The docs also want me to use a beta blocke, but I'm thinking why bother if I don't need it? 1295419 tn?1276822872 My husband is currently going through testing for proteinuria and I don't know what the issue is at this point. He has, for a few years, had either negative, trace, or +1 protein on a dipstick UA. He did a 24 hour test 3 years ago and it was normal, though I am not sure of the exact amount. He did one last month again, and this time it was slightly elevated at 218.
Avatar f tn Technically the diagnostic criteria for preeclampsia is Both proteinuria And hypertension.
Avatar n tn Excess protein in the urine is called as proteinuria and usually it is albumin that is lost through urine. Some protein is normal in the urine. A 24 hour estimation of protein loss in urine would be optimal to estimate the level of proteinuria. Conditions which can cause proteinuria are nephrotic syndrome, glomerulonephritis, dehydration, collagen vascular diseases, strenuous exercises, diabetes mellitus, infections, multiple myeloma etc.
Avatar n tn Also developed sharp shooting pain upper Left back and sometimes in LUQ. Went to emergency room and had CT of ABD/Pelvis with contrast. Normal. I am terrified I have Pancreatic Cancer. Is this possible I am 53 year old female. Told by 1 MD I have psoriatic arthritis I think I have Fibromyalgia.

Avatar f tn Treatment with Avastin can lead to slow or incomplete wound healing (for example, when a surgical incision has trouble healing or staying closed). In some cases, this event resulted in fatality. Avastin therapy should be permanently stopped in patients with wound healing complications that require medical treatment. The appropriate waiting time between stopping treatment with Avastin and having surgery has not been determined.
Avatar n tn Hi, therapy for MVP is indicated if it causes abnormal rhythm. And if the regurgitation is severe it can predispose to heart failure and sometimes strokes, for this surgery is indicated. As we do not maintain a directory of surgeons in this forum, we will not be able to help. You can discuss with your treating doctor or the insurance agencies, they will direct you to a specialist area wise. Regards.
Avatar n tn The prevalence of MPGN varies with geographical location. It is more common in Japan and is less frequently seen in France. Patients with MPGN usually complain of weakness, edema and have systemic arterial hypertension. Urine of such patients contains a lot of protein (>3.5 g/day), a condition called nephritic syndrome. Other abnormalities include low serum albumin (due to losses in the urine), decreased complement levels, and the presence of rheumatoid factor and cryoglobulins.
