Humulin 70 30 sliding scale

Common Questions and Answers about Humulin 70 30 sliding scale

humulin

Avatar n tn Most endocrinologists will put a diabetic patient who uses insulin on a sliding scale of insulin, depending on what the blood glucose is when you test before a meal. The ideal is of course for glucose levels to be in the "normal" before meal range of between something like 70-126 (different doctors use slightly different numbers, but this is pretty typical). But we can't always have the ideal numbers -- if we DID, we wouldn't be diabetic!
Avatar f tn s prescribe a long acting insulin (such as Lantus) to be taken daily and then also a shorter acting insulin to be used on a sliding scale. The person tests their blood sugar before each meal and at bed time and compares the result to the scale prescribed by the doctor and inject the appropriate amount of insulin (if indicated). It is a good idea to record these levels in a journal so it can be shared with the doctor. The idea is to keep the blood sugar at a steady, consistent level.
Avatar n tn HUMULIN-N HAS SWOLLEN ME UP. I HAVE GAINED OVER 50 LBS. I ASKED MY DOCTOR TO PUT ME BACK ON 70/30 AT MY LAST OFFICE VISIT LAST WEEK.
Avatar m tn How frequent I can take insulin Humulin 70/30. I am taking 25 unit before each meal some just before meal or sometime after meal. Please advice how much I can take in a day ? How much min duration between 2 intakes ?
2094297 tn?1345389093 Cannot seem to control blood sugars, recently finished hep c tx succesfully, although still have cirrohsis but I am doing massive amounts of insulin novilin 70/30 injections (about 135 units daily) and feel real crappy as I seem to rollercoaster all over the place, any help out there. p.s. tried lantus and it worked for awhile, then did the rapid at all meals, tried both at same time, and just swithced to the 70/30 about a week or so ago.
Avatar m tn I feel I am on a huge dose for my sliding scale, which still barely seems to keep up. I am on Lantus 40 units, twice a day. Humalog sliding scale, starting at 20 units. For every 50 mg/dl over 150, 2 more units. In a typical day, Between 20-28 units multiple times a day. A1c=7.7 currently. Is Humalog maybe not the right choice if I need such high dosing?
Avatar n tn Take 10 units of Humalog before meals and 55units of Lantus before bed. What is the sliding scale when sick. Have sinus infection and bad cough.
Avatar m tn I take 24 units of lantic once a day NovoLog on the sliding scale what's the scale
Avatar n tn Hi Jimmy, Premixed insulin requires you to eat on a fixed schedule, and you cannot easily change your insulin dose. Separate dosing of Lantus (long acting) and Humalog (short acting) where you inject each insulin separately (also called MDI for multi daily injections) is much more flexible. You test and adjust your basal insulin (lantus), then you dose your fast acting for each meal based on how much food / carbs/ protein you eat.
Avatar f tn mixtures of short-acting and intermediate-acting insulins in different proportions, such as 30/70, 50/50. Examples are NovoMix 30, Humulin M3, Insuman comb and Humalog Mix25.
Avatar f tn Why are you running out !?!??!?! If it is just running out refill the prescription early 2 days. If you have Humilin R on hand I question how old it is. If more than 30 days it is probably expired anyway. I also question having this Insulin as it has been largely discontinued for use as better insulins are now available. But the short answer is Novolog and Humlin R do not act in the same manner so substiuting can be very tricky and is probably not recommended.
Avatar f tn Check and see if there are any clinics in your area that offer a sliding scale fee. They oftentimes help with medications also by giving samples ect. Nothing is worth shooting yourself over. Without storms there would be no rainbows.
Avatar f tn I don't think it's a cyst or even a breast-related lump. I can't feel any nodule, and it's only visible when I raise my arm. The best way I can describe it is it's a lump-like bulge along the vein (it's also painless, no redness or tenderness or anything like that). Not aware of any clinics that would see me without insurance, but even if I were able to find someplace, what diagnostics or treatment could I really get w/o insurance?
Avatar m tn Does anyone use Novolog sliding scale for insulin diabetes? What health benefits you people get from it?

Avatar f tn There might be solutions for planned hospital stay/procedures, it depends on a state you are in. First, find if your state has a program. Then find a hospital that participates in it. They will require proof of income; if your income is less then certain threshold, it may be free for you; above it, you may have to co-pay some portion according to sliding scale. For office visits, I haven't heard of any public assistance programs.
Avatar m tn There are some clinics associated with universities as well as community mental health clinics that offer fees on a sliding scale. There are also occasionally therapists that do volunteer work for churches. Just use google to search for sliding scale therapists in your area.
Avatar n tn Is there anything heart related to be worried about? Have you had PVC's, PAC's VT's palpatations, dizziness, etc? Just wanted to ask since I don't see you have any prior symptoms - sorry if I missed that part. My BP goes from normal around 120/80 and drops to 80/60 then 70/40 which put me in the ER. BP& HR fluctuates many times daily and can be caused by a multitude of things.
231441 tn?1333892766 Yes, preexisting I guess, but it never showed up before - probably was well managed by my diet and exercise). I was on insulin (humulin 70/30) by 10 weeks - started on six units in morning and 4 in the evening and went up to 10 in the evening and 4 in the morning in the first few weeks of adjusting. Anyway, I was able to keep levels stable and within target (<95 fasting, <120 2 hrs post eating) up until about 2 weeks ago. Am now 31 weeks.
Avatar n tn I lost my sliding scale card that my Diabetes (Metabolic, Endocrine, and Diabetes) doctor gave me to use because I haven't had to use my Novalog since before Christmas. I currently have a virus and my sugars are out of control. What is the recommended dosage because I don't want to give myself too much or too little.
Avatar n tn I went to a diabetes education class that teaches about the sliding scale and how to take your Humalog. However, my doc gave me a formula to use to counteract high blood sugars when not enough insulin has been taken. It's (bloodsugar) - 100 divided by 40. So, if your blood sugar is 300 you would subtract 100 to get 200. Divide that by 40 to get 5 units of Humalog. I also have a scale for when I eat. It's for every 15 grams of carbs I take 2 units of Humalog.
Avatar m tn I am taking Novalin 70/30 and I guess the better question would have been is their a relationship between Calorie and unit of insulin?
