My sister is an MD in Bulgaria and the practice there is almost the same as here- stopping Plavix after 12 months. So, no matter how much and how long we discuss this- the statistics should speak for itself.

I am going to need extensive dental work in the next year due to extensive dental decay my fault, the problem is I am on plavix and 325mg of aspirin due to extensive CAD plus several other Meds for high Blood pressure, how would a dentist approach this or would they or do I have to find a specialist in the dental field?

I just received a drug eluting stent last month and having a hard time adjusting to all the meds. I was on Plavix and was told I would be on that for 1 year. I ended up being allergic to the Plavix and the dr. switched me to Ticlid. Which I will be on for 1 year, so they say. And aspirin too. Is it true that you can still have chest pains with this type of stent?

I take plavix, lipitor, toprol-xl & diovan. Have been taking them for 2 1/2 years after stent implantation. Any ideas on how long you should be left on each of these..or are they classified as 'health maintenance'. No real side effects to speak of.

I was prescribed with Plavix after receiving a stent in my LAD. However, the physician quickly changed his mind after a test revealed that plavix had 0% inhibition effect on platelet aggregation for me. I was told this was due to a genetic effect. Then the physician prescribed me with Effient. Since it is a new drug and it is Christmas time with early closing, . I had hard time locating a pharmacy which stocked Effient.

The doc has me set up two days after my stress test for a heart cath. How many stents can be put in? He seemed concerned but I have had no discomfort, chest pain or shortness of breath or tiredness. How long do stents last? I heard that the medicated ones from Boston Scientific are not all that great.

My question is could going off Plavix possibly cause a TIA and how long does it take to get the level of Plavix back where it should be once you start taking it?

Had a heart attack, and stent put in for blockage. Need to go to an Allergy Immunologist about an asprin allergy. Need to take asprin with Plavax, or therapy won't work as per Dr. What can the allergist do for me?

When you came off plavix before, how long had you been taking it? How long have you had these stents? When you stopped your plavix and had a heart attack in 2 days, was it a clot in the stents or somewhere else?

I was also on Omeprazole with Plavix both times. My Doc said the evidence is weak, and if it does reduce the effects of plavix, then it's only slight. Until more conclusive studies are done, who knows.

I was on plavix for 18 months for my first stent and it never formed clots, but I believe there have been cases where it has happened. IF clots are going to form, they are usually very quickly as the plavix wears off. You don't have to ween off plavix, you simply stop it. It isn't a medication that affects your metabolism or mental state. Is it your general Doctor or Cardiologist who has stopped the medication? In the UK we are told we will be on Plavix 2-3 years or even possibly life.

My mother took Plavix and I notice the same effect on my mother who is 85 years old. When I brought this to her attention she agreed she felt better and was more cognisent without it. She decided she wanted her clarity more than the effect of the drug and has been off it for two years. She continues to take Asperin daily. She had a double stint placement four years ago.

If I were offered the option, I would go with withdrawing the Plavix in a New York Minute. As an explanation, I was taking Plavix after stent work when I experienced a total bowel obstruction, and had to have numerous transfusions as as my blood wouldn't clot. Surgery and Plavix just don't mix. I'm sure the doctors will protect your husband, but if surgery is necessary, it would be irresponsible for a doctor to operate without stopping the ingestion of Plavix.

Does anyone have any info on how long Plavix has been on the market and are there any long term probs with taking this med... I understand that Plavix was initially designed as a short term solution (6 mts post surgery), but then they found high mortality rates with people coming off the med so they decided to make it a med you take for life post angio or surgery. I'll try and find the article, but curious to find out if anyone knows more...

my 74 year old father has been taken 5mg of warifin and low dose asprin (81mg) for along time know,..he had a stent put in about 5 years ago and still contiues to combine the two....how does this sound to you guy's??

Thanks for your replies -- I called the doctor yesterday and let his nurse know I was having chest pains. She says to keep taking isosorbide, a long-acting nitro, which is why I didn't take nitro for the chest pain, for one thing the pain didn't feel too strong, but mostly because I knew I already had nitro in me and didn't want to make a big headache. Does that make any sense? Maybe I should try it anyway, to see if it does indicate blockage.

How long am I suppesed to take plavix after stint placement? Is taking aspiran with plavix healthy?

ve just had installed. And, how do you quantify risk? Does a patient who is 49 and always been energic have to simply sit back and say "thats it then"? no they don't. Everytime I cross the road I take a risk, everytime I get in a car I take a risk, everytime I walk down my stairs I'm taking a risk. Life is full of risk if you choose to look at it that way. I will fight to get this last part sorted. As for life expectancy, well nobody can truly answer that.

I have a high deductibule ins policy I have found several web sights that offer generic Plavix or [clopidogrel] that is suginifantly cheeper than brand name Plavix Will the generic work as good as plavix? Or is it just a plasebo?
