Just to provide a little more detail on Marinol. Marinol is legal in the US and is available by prescription. It is not real marijuana but man-made or synthetic THC. THC is one of the psychoactive components in marijuana; however real marijuana has other chemical componds that Marinol does not such as CBD (cannabinoid) that isn't very psychoactive but helps significantly reduce inflammation, relaxes muscles, and relieves pain.

For wasting, any well-liked food (ice cream, steak, potatoes, cake!) will work better than the marinol; marinol dehydrates the body and induces a drive to eat salty foods like chips which then induce a drive to drink fluids; marinol will not, therfore, lead to any effective eating; fatten up first.

I want and need to stop smoking pot but want to avoid the w/d's, need to work etc. It's my understanding Marinol can ease the symptoms considerably. Anyone know how to get it? I tried going to the Dr but he would not prescribe it off-label. Any suggestions?

My dad takes oxycodone 15mg/ oxycontin 20mg/ marinol 2.5mg/ and ibuprofen 220mg Marinol is synthetic marijuana and it is doing wonders for his back pain. But if this is the case then shouldn't he theoretically be able to go off of the oxy's? I am so confused. Doctors don't tell me about liver or kidney protection and that is one of my first concerns.

I have been treated for Chronic pain post Cancers and therapies, and I am very tolerant to any Opiates. I would like to try using Marinol (synthetic THC) for pain; it helped my pain as well as my nausea when I went through my Stem-cell Transplant. There's a form of marijuana in pill form... it's called MARINOL (Dronabinol). I was put on it when I lost 40lbs as a side-effect of taking another medication. The side-effect of MARINOL, is that it gives you the munchies and MAKES you want to eat. Gained the weight back slowly, and stopped taking it. Makes me wonder why they went all-out, and went the actual marijuana route, instead of trying MARINOL first.

I've read about some people diagnosed with ADD taking marinol as a form of medication. I was wondering what effects it would have when taken with adderall, or as a replacement for other meds. What sort of side effects, and/or lack of side effects to make other meds more effective.

Hi there, I have IBS, I also have cardiomyopathy and pulmonary hypertension. I get severe pain in my abdomen. It is beyond any other pain besides the worst migraine I've ever had. The pain is so bad I usually end up pouring sweat and putting as much pressure on my gut as possible until it passes. I use guided meditation sometimes and that helps a lot. My Dr. has run through all of the standard medications, and many are not available to me because of the cardiac problems.

Is it of your opinion that Marinol can be an alternative drug to treat Multiple Sclerosis? I cannot handle shots, and I know there are many side effects from the shots.

Hi all, Since my last post, my daughter got a gtube to match her jtube and had an upright MRI to rule out Chiari malformation (it was ruled out). The gtube stopped her vomiting (it all comes out the gtube now), but daughter still has terrible pain and nausea and diarrhea with jtube feeds. The marinol and promethazine do MOSTLY knock her out so she doesn't feel the pain while feeding, but she wakes up anyway to run to the bathroom with diarrhea and yell from the pain.

I have liver cirrhosis and when I became ill, my doctor prescribed Marinol for weight gain. I had lost 85 lbs and gained 30 pounds with this treatment. My doctor discontinued the Marinol and my weight decreased. I am 6'2" tall and am considering smoking marijuana to achieve the weight gain I am comfortable with. Will this method injure my liver further or have no real effects to it?

If there is still no improvement then medicines like megestrol (i.e., Megace) and dronabinol (i.e., Marinol) can be taken.For that a prescription and consultation of a doctor are mandatory. About the burning, it is possible that your skin has become very sensitive from the meds. It does get better, it just takes time.

I have 5 days till my due date and baby doesnt seem to want to come any time soon. The doctor said is I went to 41 weeks they would probably induce me. How exactly does that work? I thought it was just some kind of medicine they gave you through an IV but a friend said something about them sticking a needle up there. Im a little freaked out, could someone please explain it to me?
