Just to provide a little more detail on Marinol. Marinol is legal in the US and is available by prescription. It is not real marijuana but man-made or synthetic THC. THC is one of the psychoactive components in marijuana; however real marijuana has other chemical componds that Marinol does not such as CBD (cannabinoid) that isn't very psychoactive but helps significantly reduce inflammation, relaxes muscles, and relieves pain.

For wasting, any well-liked food (ice cream, steak, potatoes, cake!) will work better than the marinol; marinol dehydrates the body and induces a drive to eat salty foods like chips which then induce a drive to drink fluids; marinol will not, therfore, lead to any effective eating; fatten up first.

I want and need to stop smoking pot but want to avoid the w/d's, need to work etc. It's my understanding Marinol can ease the symptoms considerably. Anyone know how to get it? I tried going to the Dr but he would not prescribe it off-label. Any suggestions?

There's a form of marijuana in pill form... it's called MARINOL (Dronabinol). I was put on it when I lost 40lbs as a side-effect of taking another medication. The side-effect of MARINOL, is that it gives you the munchies and MAKES you want to eat. Gained the weight back slowly, and stopped taking it. Makes me wonder why they went all-out, and went the actual marijuana route, instead of trying MARINOL first.

My dad takes oxycodone 15mg/ oxycontin 20mg/ marinol 2.5mg/ and ibuprofen 220mg Marinol is synthetic marijuana and it is doing wonders for his back pain. But if this is the case then shouldn't he theoretically be able to go off of the oxy's? I am so confused. Doctors don't tell me about liver or kidney protection and that is one of my first concerns.

I have been treated for Chronic pain post Cancers and therapies, and I am very tolerant to any Opiates. I would like to try using Marinol (synthetic THC) for pain; it helped my pain as well as my nausea when I went through my Stem-cell Transplant. I took 1 2.5 mg Marinol cap about 2 weeks ago. I don't do drugs. The pill was taken by mistake. Am I positive for THC?

So, he perscribed marinol (he wanted to give me options) and told me vaporizing marijuana was ok too. This was actually after my cardiologist thought this would be a good plan for me. So I tried it. The Marinol works fantastic, the marijuana works almost as well too. There's little to no pain when I use it before I usually get an attack, and during an attack, it stops the pain in its tracks. It's really amazing.

Hi all, Since my last post, my daughter got a gtube to match her jtube and had an upright MRI to rule out Chiari malformation (it was ruled out). The gtube stopped her vomiting (it all comes out the gtube now), but daughter still has terrible pain and nausea and diarrhea with jtube feeds. The marinol and promethazine do MOSTLY knock her out so she doesn't feel the pain while feeding, but she wakes up anyway to run to the bathroom with diarrhea and yell from the pain.

About the burning, it is possible that your skin has become very sensitive from the meds. It does get better, it just takes time.

I have liver cirrhosis and when I became ill, my doctor prescribed Marinol for weight gain. I had lost 85 lbs and gained 30 pounds with this treatment. My doctor discontinued the Marinol and my weight decreased. I am 6'2" tall and am considering smoking marijuana to achieve the weight gain I am comfortable with. While I was treating, I found that as soon as I got home from work on Friday, followed by a meal and TylenolPM and a big glass of water. I completed my treatment a year ago last March and last month I had my most recent viral count. still virus free. The night of my first two injections I had a noticable fever and slept very restlessly. If there is still no improvement then medicines like megestrol (i.e., Megace) and dronabinol (i.e., Marinol) can be taken.For that a prescription and consultation of a doctor are mandatory. I have had surgery twice on my lower back and was put on gabapentin for nerve damage and the meds made me very sick so I started smoking pot, it work on my mother whom had cancer per the suggestion of her doctor but not a suggestion cause of it being illegal. The back pain is back and the surgean referred me to PM and gave me the same meds gabapentin and hydrocodone, so I started smoking again otherwise I get sick dont eat, puke bile.

I do pretty good with Zofran and marinol most of the time. However there are times when I am just not able to function much less work. I am constantly exhausted like I have never been in my life. My boss likes me and is trying to work with me within the company rules of course. I worry about loosing my job and with it my insurance. I swear sometimes I wonder why I am not depressed.I do get frustrated. At this point, all I know to do is wait til I see the Hep C doctor.

My 30 year old daughter has just been diagnosed with idiopathic gastroparesis after suffering vomitting, nausea, diarrhea or constipation for 5 years. She is also borderline bi-polar II. One of her big problems is she has reactions to many meds. For instance, she cannot take any antihistamines, nor phenergan, or compazine because they result in severe akathesia. She can tolerate Reglan and is on that 4 times a day and has been prescribed Zofran, which helps some.
