The members on this forum told me that it does cause severe depression and OxyContin can stop Depression meds from working. I was up to 120mg of OxyContin for pain management. Im a Fibromyalgia patient with severe body aches and pain bad enough for narcotic pain killers. I get urine drug tested every month when i go to get my prescriptions from a pain management clinic. I have tested positive for either Hydrocodone or Oxycontin the last 6 times I tested. I havent taken Hydrocodone in 5 years and Ive never taken Oxycontin. The dr doesnt believe me and Im probably gonna be released because of it. I cant make him believe me.

Do you mean you only used one pill after 4 days? I doubt a pill or 2 will set you back to w/d's but after only 4 days clean, w/d's are usually still there anyway. What caused you to mess up and take them? What are you willing to do to make sure you don't relapse again?

But I take them the way they are prescribed to me and it works great.The thing is my doctor is weird about this....because of the bad pubicity about OXYCONTIN he puts me on oxycodone the generic form which is fine by me it works the same but....now they are not making the generic ( so they say) and he says he will not write oxycontin anymore! I dont think its a bad idea to talk to your dosctor about how fast you tore through the script. After all, you didnt perscribe yourself. I do not think that going cold turkey would be life threatening, but I can bet it would be very uncomfortable. I definetly would reccomend a ween or a taper before jumping off to ease some wd. Please be sure to talk to someone who is an authority before taking major steps.

I agree Ga Guy. An opiate is an opiate and sub is for opiate addiction. The dosage of sub is completely dependent on each patient and everyone is different and requires different dosages. Sub is just one part of the treatment process to - meetings, support, and therapy are also highly recommended. They all go together for an effective treatment plan.

Given that you have been on the Percocet for a while, you have no doubt already become dependant on the medication. Oxycontin is no different. It just last longer. With breakthrough pain medication, it often relieves the symptoms between doses. It really does help. Like I said, there are other medications out there but first you should discuss the possibility of an increase first. See what the Doctor suggests.

Right now, be supportive of him. He is going to feel lousy for a while. Once he is cleaned up you can discuss your lack of trust in him and hopefully have a heart to heart with him on your feelings. Methadone is the devil. It is worse to come off of than the oxy's. How long has he been taking it? If he has just started it, tell him to stop NOW. Post back so we know how long he has been taking the methadone. He has simply traded a bad drug habit for an even worse one.

For what it's worth, here is how I would approach it. And I've done it- and it has sucked- it has been hard- been approx 1 month now- you can do it too. 1st of all quit and get rid of the percs and tyl 3 immediately. Do not just go put them somewhere where you will get them later- because then you will. The oxy addiction is the ball buster that you have to get thru. I would do 60/day for a week- maybe 3 x 20 over a 24 hr period.

Then stop going or really make him listen. You have the control here.

Be very careful because hydrocodone is another form of a narcotic and you might find yourself substituting this one for the oxys. If you must take it - is there someone there who can monitor them for you? You're in my thoughts and prayers! Be strong!!!!

Sorry, not sure what you mean. Cut down to what and for how many days? I imagaine you get to the point where any dose is not enough. Another site told me that 240 was not that high of a dose but they were on 900mg so...any ideas would be helpful!

I am so sorry for you loss and am here for you. I lost a friend to Oxycontin years ago so I understand but as a result of loosing her I have take one oxycontin in my life and my body cant stand them and I think that is cause I lost my friend. Really Amazing how GOD had given me something out of my friend death.
