glucose

20620809 tn?1504362969 Basically, there are 2 types of carbohydrates - simple carbohydrates, which are those that convert to sugar quickly increasing glucose levels, which in turn increases insulin levels. Insulin is often considered the "fat storage" hormone because whatever glucose (sugar) isn't used right away, is shuttled into fat cells by insulin. These include the high glycemic foods mentioned above - white potatoes, sugar, flour, macaroni, etc.
872485 tn?1240603562 Thanks, so do I officially have diabetes? I asked the nurse and she said they want to test again in 6 months, but wouldnt' say yes or no to the official dx.
Avatar n tn A couple of things to keep in mind. First off, cholesterol levels are dynamic in nature. Remember that in addition to what you eat, your body also makes cholesterol based on it's needs. One area that the body needs cholesterol in in the creation of cells so if you have an injury that is mending for example your body may create more LDL than normal. In your case you had modest increases in LDL and TGL and your HDL is very low. Your concern should be on increasing your HDL.
Avatar f tn Stay away from sugary items, including fruit (they have natural sugars) and starchy foods (bread, pasta, potatoes, etc.) because the body will process it into sugar. These foods can elevate your sugar levels in your blood which may cause your test results to be elevated, although some people don't fast at all and their results come back fine.
Avatar n tn We have described best glucose levels in children as they grow and develop: Five and younger: Normal blood sugar targets are 100 to 200mg/dl. Age 5 to 11: Normal blood sugar targets are 70 to 150mg/dl. Fasting blood sugars should be nearer to 70mg/dL. Blood sugar after meals and before bedtime should be near 150mg/dL. Age 12 and older A healthy glucose level of age 12 and elder should be near 70mg/dl when fasting and 150mg/dl after meals.
Avatar n tn have you tested your glucose levels when these symptoms hit you? You may find that your glucose levels have dropped too low, for these are some of the symptoms of low blood sugar. Many people do mention tingling in hands when glucose levels drop too low. I would heartily recommend that the next time this happens, you do an immediate glucose test, and then perhaps test again about 45 minutes later.
Avatar m tn I certainly can't answer your medical questions, but do know that one test at one point in time can't tell you if your hormone levels are chronically one way or the other. They vary considerable with time, time of day, etc. It appears your main problem, though, is eating. What are you doing to fix that?
Avatar f tn "..something I didn't know was that the fish oil and omega supplements can significantly raise blood sugars." This statement raised [no pun] my curiosity level. Do you have a web page or link to substantiate this claim? It has been my understanding that Omega 3 helps lower glucose in Type II's. I've been taking 1000 mg of wild salmon oil daily for ten years and find that it does help stabilize "my" glucose levels, not raise it.
Avatar n tn As other causes such as stress ,exercises and a recent meal intake may cause increase levels of glucose in the urine. This may be true in isolated cases. An initial work up may be necessary just to check blood glucose levels. Your BUN and Creatinine levels may also be checked to get a baseline evaluation of renal function.
Avatar f tn An easy way to lower blood sugar levels is to stay fit and healthy. Regular exercise not only helps lower blood sugar levels, but also helps fight infections. Staying active and taking regular exercise can also help with blood pressure problems. Exercise also helps control the body's weight and regulate cholesterol levels. This exercise does not need to be a grueling workout. Thirty minutes of exercise a day, even walking, will help to lower blood sugar levels.
Avatar m tn Low glucose levels are the most likely etiology. I know you say you "do not have diabetes", however I would like you to obtain a glucose meter, and take a blood stick. The shakiness and dizziness are hallmarks of low blood glucose levels..
Avatar n tn Are you throwing out words w/o knowing definitions? Metabolism is a set of chain reactions in living organisms to sustain life. And it's red blood cells that absorb glucose once it enters the blood stream. Here's some basics on how to control and manage glucose levels. Not much can be added since you didn't tell us anything about your diabetes, if any. Nor do I recommend medication/s as this is up to a doctor following an evaluation.
Avatar n tn I very rarely check my blood sugar levels but when I do it is usually between 110-125 in the morning fasting, and 120-130 2 hrs after eating. Almost 5 months ago my Primary care Doc. put me on Crestor for high cholestoral. 1 month later he was not saticfied with the drop in cholestoral so he put me on a fairley new drug called Trilipix. I take 10mg of lisinopril for high blood pressure, 10 mg of crestor, and 145mg of trilipix.
Avatar m tn Your pancreas is not dead! Diabetes type 1 is when the immune system destroys part of the pancreas that produces insulin, but leaves the rest perfectly intact. Type 2 is when nothing is destroyed, but for some reason, you're either not producing enough insulin, or the insulin that you produce is not efficient enough. There's a clear distinction between the two, as type 1 is autoimmune 'disease'. In all cases the pancreas is still performing all the other functions correctly.
Avatar n tn My blood sugars used to be always whether fasting or 2 hours after meals or random throughout the day in the upper 90's all of a sudden lately I noticed I've been losing weight without trying my fasting blood glucose is 125-130 random throughout the day is 140 so I had an appointment with the diabetic clinic today I am on 80mg.
Avatar n tn just as a personal experience my father had glucose 125 (max normal 100), we just made his vitamin d serum levels optimal to around 65-85ng/ml by 10.
Avatar n tn Ch4st4r had some good suggestions... also adding protein and healthy fats from olive or coconut oil to each meal will help as well, since protein and fats, won't increase blood glucose levels like simple carbs will. I lost 23 lbs by add more healthful fats to my diet...
Avatar f tn It ok to eat fish they say don't eat predatory fish bc they contain high levels of mercury but other fish with low levels is fine I wouldn't suggest eating fish everyday but once or twice a week wouldn't hurt u
3126253 tn?1345384121 I don't eat fish but I believe that the only fish of concern are the ones with high mercury levels. Sorry..I can't help further but if u google it you will certainly find information.
519736 tn?1253986826 Blood sugar and glucose in a round about way are synonymous. Blood sugar is used more often than glucose for the simple reason this is what is heard or read most often when diabetes is mentioned. Insulin is produced by your pancreas to allow glucose from your blood to be absorbed by cells in your liver, muscles and fat to be used for your bodies energy needs. It does more but I won't get into that. A thyroid disorder will affect your blood sugar levels too.
Avatar f tn Omega 3 fish oil and flaxseed oil can both sometimes increase bleeding in patients taking blood thinners like coumadin (warfarin), apirin, and plavix. In diabetics on glucose lowering drugs there is some evidence that suggest that flaxseed oil may increase fasting blood sugar levels. Also, for men concerned about prostate health, some studies have shown a possible link between the ALA fatty acids in flaxseed oil and prostate cancer.
