194838 tn?1303428544 I do not test my own blood but am sent to the hospital for fairly regular tests but notice that when people post with their blood glucose levels they are in the 100s. I am from the UK and wonder if there is a conversion chart because I think it would be more beneficial if I could compare with others on the forum to get a sense of how im doing for comparison, Any advise would be greatly appreciated .
Avatar f tn I am 29 weeks today. I had to have a glucose test done early since im a bit overweight.(a little over a month ago) Now they want another one because of my BP. If my BP is perfect with meds, why do I have to do another glucose?
Avatar m tn com/diabetes/guide/normal-blood-sugar-levels-chart-adults This article has information related to charting of glucose numbers. If you were fasting, I think it's time to have an evaluation by your physician to look into your glucose numbers. If you were not and it was before a meal, then they would be close to normal. so, that info would be helpful for further discussion.
Avatar f tn So I had my initial appointment today, got a bunch of information, got my blood work ordered & because of the stupid backwards bmi chart, I had to get a glucose challenge. I waited 8 hrs to take it so that I could fast, but I'm afraid that wasn't enough. Did any of you mommies have to get an early challenge? When you did do the glucose, did you fast or did you eat?
Avatar n tn My dad was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes 5 years ago and had an effective management system, but had a minor stroke a few months ago and the system is less effective. I have been reading a lot about telehealth in the press and that the trail has been with diabetes, does the system work? anybody got any experience.
Avatar f tn The purpose of reporting eAG is to help you relate your A1c results to your everyday glucose monitoring levels. The American Diabetes Association has adopted this calculation and provides a calculator and information on the eAG on their web site. Yes, the ADA web site chart still reflects 5.7% - 6.4% (39 - 46 mmol/mol) but that is soon to change as web sites get periodic updates/changes. Also keep in mind, the ADA web site is sponsored by all the major drug firms.
Avatar f tn To decrease your chance of creating more suffering from diabetes, stop cigarette smoking. Smoking increases your blood-glucose stages, which significantly improves your chance of suffering from diabetes. Giving up cigarette smoking can lead to excess weight, but working out and dieting is an easy way to deal with that issue. Anyone with a genealogy of suffering from diabetes should be sure not to smoke.
Avatar m tn I buy the 10LG Parameter Urine Reagent Strips that can detect a few abnormalities by dipping the strip into a sample of urine, Leukocytes, Nitrite, Urobilinogen, Protein, pH, Blood, Specific Gravity, Ketone, Bilirubin, Glucose. There is a coloured chart on the container that you compare your urine strip test to after waiting for the appropriate amount of time as indicated on the container.

Avatar m tn All nuts are classified as fatty foods, but most have a small amount of carbohydarates and protein in them too. This chart tells you how many grams of carbohydrates and fat are in different types of foods and are grouped by type of food. Go down to the Nuts and Seeds area and you will find the carbohydrates, protein and calorie amounts for the different types of nuts: http://whatscookingamerica.net/NutritionalChart.
Avatar n tn Hi all, I'm a 25 year old male who just had some blood work done for some chest, arm/leg pains I've been having. Xray and all blood work came back fine except for the glucose levels which I was told were "a bit high." Probably 45 minutes before the blood tests, I had a bowl of frosted mini wheats and a glass of juice. I am going back to get a fasting test, but wanted to know if eating the food/drink right before could have caused glucose reading to be a bit high?
Avatar m tn com/eAG-calculator Once on the ADA page you will see a chart on the right. You will notice that an A1c of 6% equals 126 mg/dl, the start of diabetes. It doesn't make sense to say 6% is OK and then turn around and say 126 mg/dl is not OK. Then why does the ADA say 6% is OK when AACE [American Association of Clinical Endocrinologist] state in their guidelines an A1c of <5.4% as normal? Reference: AACE Diabetes Care Plan Guidelines, Endocr Pract. 2011;17(Suppl 2) 7.
Avatar f tn Elevated blood glucose levels are indicative of gestational diabetes, although no one seems to know exactly what causes it. Hormones in the placenta can block the action of the mother's insulin in her body; insulin resistance makes it hard for the mother's body to use insulin, and without enough insulin glucose is turned into energy because it can't leave the body. A high level of blood glucose, called hyperglycemia, requires the baby to work harder.
Avatar m tn Have you been seen by a doctor to test for diabetes? Should you be diagnosed with pre-diabetes or diabetes you can learn by testing frequently what foods you can eat and how exercise helps. In general diabetics test two hours after eating to make sure the number has come down. Any sustained time spent over 140 can cause complications.
794366 tn?1418009395 I have been diagnosed with diabetes type 2 a few years ago. Last year my vision was blurred and my glucose was in the 500s, so they put me on Victoza. It worked like a charm, felt better right away. Now I am in the "donut-hole" in my insurance and so it now costs $400 whereas before it was $40. So naturally I had to stop using it and just use the Metformin. I have exhausted my resources for getting free samples of Victoza from my diabetes educator.
Avatar m tn Your numbers indicated glucose out of control and you need to pay attention to what your doctor says to you. Go back and consult with your doctor so you can understand what you need to do in order to control and manage your glucose levels before they get way of hand. If you Google "diabetes complications", I guarantee you will not like what you read. Your home meter [test kit] could also be whacked giving you inaccurate test results.
Avatar n tn First thing you need have on hand is a home glucose test meter. The only way you're going to know how the foods you consumed affected your glucose [blood sugar] levels is by testing, testing, and more testing. Times to test are; fasting - first thing in morning b4 having any food or colored liquids [plain water is OK]. This will tell you how much stored sugar your liver is dumping during sleep hours. Normal levels are 60/70 - 99 mg/dl or 3.33/3.88 - 5.
Avatar n tn Does anyone know if there is a dosage chart for how much humalog to take according to your sugar level. My sugar is through the roof and I take 20g at mealtimes and 50g at bedtime.

798555 tn?1292787551 History: I posted here in the past, as my fasting glucose was between 100-110 for almost 2 years, per clinic testing. Ac1 was OK but showed a pattern of increasing to the upper part of the acceptable range. So I took action when Drs did not seem to be interested in being pro active. That is the problem with western medicine....wait till its too late. The last few clinic tests showed fasting glucose in the 90's, and my new glucose meter just showed 93 this morning, looking much better.
Avatar m tn There was just a report on the news last week that statins have been linked top type II diabetes. My wife is on 80mg of Simvastatin while I'm on 20mg. Coincidence or not, we both contracted type II in recent years. I believe that the benefits pf statins outweigh the risks and have altered my eating lifestyle so to nearly exclude carbohydrates. This has enabled me to continue statin regime while keeping my fasting blood glucose levels at acceptaptable unmedicated levels.
