fosamax broken bones

My wifes orthodontist recommended a consultation with a periodontist prior to him starting the procedure for braces. My wife is a 65 year old in good health who has taken FOSAMAX for 5 1/2 years. She wants to get her teeth straightened. The periodontist has recommended a procedure to reinforce the gums prior to the braces. This has added an additional 6K to the price and about 3 months to the total time to straighten the teeth.

Does anyone know any adverse effect with Fosamax, a medication for treating osteoporois or brittle bones? My regular doc (who knows I have HCV) prescribed it to me. I know that the liver processes all drugs and reading the side effects is scaring me. I have stage 2 fibrosis and failed the traditional interferon/ribavirin treatment already.

If you have osteoporosis, I think it is best to take the medication prescribed by your doctor. Supplements and herbal remedies are not approved by the FDA. I have not seen any studies to indicate that this is an effective alternative. While this may be beneficial, I would think the treatment plan would be the one your doctor prescribes.

I am taking Ipriflavone and Calcium with Vitamin D3 for my bone health. The Dr. prescribed Fosamax, but after reading about how it can cause weak bones, (what it's supposed to help) I discovered Ipriflavone. It's a bone builder that muscle builders use - I have fallen and not broken any bones - (I have osteopenia) I am sorry to say that I really don't know what would help your hearing loss - I think I would research all the vitamins and minerals to find something if it were me.

Throwing my 2 cents in.....having numerous broken bones prior to tx, I was pleasantly surprised to have a normal bone density scan after 48 weeks and SVR. Pulling for you!!!!!

So hopefully we have caught the osteoporosis in time, and only have to be on fosamax for a year or two. We will do another bone screening in a year. The fosamax is affecting my ear buzzing too, so really don't want to be on it longer than necessary.

I just went got into menopause. My FSH is at the high end, no periods for over a year etc. I had a bone density done and my spine and hips have low end osteoporosis. I was wondering how many of you out there at my age or near my age have it too? I had osteopenia of the spine 4 years ago and now it is osteoporosis. The hip has gotten worse on one side by 3% and the other side by 6 %.

I was dx with osteopenia a month before I started treatment for C and began taking fosamax weekly - the low dose 35 mg per week. Before tx for C my hip T score was -1.7. After treatment my T score was -1.3, so it did improve. The lumbar spine T score imporved during that time too. I continued to take the fosamax thoughout my tx and did not clear the virus, so would surmise the improvement was from the fosamax and not anything else.

35 years of empty sella, hi prolactin, testosterone injections, osteopenia, broken ribs and recently hip - and now at age 67 two of my children ages 33 and 36 flunk Dexa scans and are prescribed fosamax, which they refuse to take until hyperparathyroid is ruled out. Do you mean Fosamax (alendronate)? If you do, its for treating bone problems like Osteoperosis by adding bone mass and slows bone loss. I use it for Osteopenia.

my left leg tibia and fibula both broken in an accideent about 8 and half months ago. fracture has alaready healed. in surgery external fixators were applied, wiring was done by making holes in the bone. while boring,drill machine was moved in a bigger diameter makeing a wound which was also burnt. this wound still not healed. a very little drop of pus ozzes...
